Despite this most likely not being the purpose of the anime at all, it really made me think of the psychology behind sadomasochism. Each character has their own desires, sexual or not, all in which individually portrayed, but not to the best extent. Personally, the rushed storyline is what attracts me to this anime, as someone with a short attention spam I can get bored of extended dialogue and irrelevant plots but it swiftly gets to what I came for, the hentai. Utena's character is what got me thinking and I wish the anime dived deeper into her emotional craving of sadism, so I could

have both a physical and emotional response to this series. If you're into BDSM in anime, this is definitely the best display of it I have ever watched, but I really haven't watched that large of an amount - still a few episodes yet to air but there's been from what I can remember: age play, piss kink, humiliation, bondage, knismolagnia, impact play, sensory deprivation and more; so there's definitely a wide range. I find myself wishing the scenes went on for longer despite not being attracted to the character's physicality or mentality. Call me a weirdo but as someone outside of the target audience for this, I am aroused by it. It's bizzare because I don't actually understand why I like it that much because I prefer heterosexual porn, I'm not into 'big titty girls acting like hypnotized toddlers', and I would prefer to see more graphic scenes surrounding things such as gun/knife play. But then again, best BDSM anime (if you can even call it that) I've watched so I think of it highly. The art and music is mediocre, nothing incredible. In summary, if you just want to watch high intensity hentai with acts of BDSM and little storyline, this is the anime for you. If you're someone who prefers thorough plots, storylines and dialogue I would recommend to look else where. My 10/10 rating is based on it as a hentai, not an anime.

Initially I wasn’t sure if I would love this series because I couldn’t figure out the direction of the plot or what the overall storyline was. The fact it’s slow-paced actually emphasizes the minor details and the character development, it perfectly builds up to the finale, which genuinely shocked me. The psychology of some characters is really relevant to their actions, the fact Tokyo Ghoul is about monsters fighting but clearly portrays their mindset and experiences they’ve been through adds so much depth which attracted me more to this anime. However, in the final 2 episodes, the torture of Kaneki was slightly too graphic for

me. This is impressive though, no anime before has portrayed scenes so realistically violent I’ve had to skip pass. The character development and the pure emotion they portrayed is what I really loved; I can’t wait to get into the other seasons.

I mean perhaps if you're just casually a paedophile you'd enjoy this. I do not even see any of this 'investigation/mystery' aspect supposedly featured as I read in the description, it's really just a poor excuse to present sexual and physical abuse on minors. I mean what did I expect from an 18+ rated, 4 episode anime. The only reason I've given it a 3 is due to the potential it had, but I can't even really complain because I guess it was created for those into sadomasochistic ecchi, the portrayal of BDSM was realistic however and the concept of uncovering the cases was somewhat

there. So if you're looking for a crappy, short anime with no clear storyline and just filled with boderline inhumane sexual acts, this is for you!

Monster is an incredible anime in terms of its satisfying storytelling and attention to detail, every single advancement, no matter how small, plays an important role into the overall plot. The tension in every episode was built up perfectly, either through the eerie music, chilling dialogue or even just the way Tenma discovered new information, no character is left unaffected which makes every second worth watching, up until the ending which I would consider perfect.
Due to personal preference, this anime was too long, and the way each episode was filled wasn’t always necessary, this is particularly down to the huge number of characters. At

first this aspect was what convinced me to watch more, a new character appearing with more information, always in regards to the investigation. However, after a while it became rinse and repeat, many times I actually predicted what a certain character would bring, and they typically also ended up dying anyway. Despite this method of storytelling and gaining information being repetitive, it was also helpful, with such a long anime and complex plot, it became difficult to grasp certain predicaments or remember certain information, but I alternatively saw this as a recap, and helped me continue on without anything flying over my head.
The dialogue was one of the best parts of this anime, the rhythm between attack and defence wasn’t cheesy or unrealistic like many other anime, but each line was perfectly suited to each character, with even the smallest phrase holding heavy undertones and implications. By the end, the words ‘Dr Tenma’ will practically be ingrained into your head.
Overall, I would highly recommend this anime for anyone willing to dedicate their time into a complex and grasping plot, holding a powerful message. Due to it’s duration, I became emotionally invested into many characters, allowing me to truly understand what it was all about. However, it did take me up until halfway to become fully interested.
