Tetsuwan Atom
(Manga)
add
Even though Tetsuwan Atom/Astro Boy is a cultural icon, I feel like the story is not talked about enough. People might say "it appeals to kids" "its for kids" which is true mostly for the anime, but the manga tackles some very tough material. Let me set the picture for you, in the 1950's an artist whom his mother's family had a long history with the military. Naturally you would want to speak about war issues if you are in the middle of World War II so years later you make Tetsuwan Atom, it garners massive attention and easily becomes your most popular work. It's

Dream Hunter Rem
(Anime)
add
This OVA series is kinda like a hidden gem. The art and animation is very well done (it was originally an hentai series but it was so well made that it became a real series. It's nothing special but its one of my favorites just because of how sheer fun it is. It tries to be everything at once but somehow succeeds a little at this. If you are very adamant on plot in shows then this is not for you. If you want a good fun short show then this might be for you. Has a lot of fanservice which might be a turn-off

Uchuu Kaizoku Captain Herlock
(Anime)
add
Captain Harlock, to simply put it, is a hidden but not so hidden masterpiece. If you know anime or are into anime culture a lot then you have seen him before. Uchuu Kaichou Captain Harlock is a great space opera about pirates and if you're into stuff like Devilman,Star Wars,Gundam,Macross etc you will enjoy this plenty. It's considered one of the best anime of all time for a reason like one of the reviewers state. The characters are very unique and pretty well written. It takes a lot from sci-fi from it's time so it is to be expected to have a ton of references.

Wow why is the top comment so hateful. Anyways I love Jojolion, I believe it is the best part and has great mystery, powers, character, and art. I also believe this is Araki's magnum opus other then the extremely hated Phantom Blood and the loved Steel Ball Run. It follows Jousuke Higashikata in Morioh similar to Diamond is Unbreakable. It draws similarities to other parts in the other manga and does it amazingly without feeling recycled or worst then the other parts. It's monthly so you'd have to wait quite a while for each chapter but its well worth it. Jojolion is honestly a very

Devilman: Tanjou-hen
(Anime)
add
If you are interested in watching Devilman this is the best route if you don't like reading. I say this because this is easiest the best Go Nagai adaptation without deviating or doing seemingly weird changes which Devilman anime suffered the most from. It changes some things to be more 80's and it pretty much works. The only thing common in Devilman adaptation is that the soundtrack kicks ASS! The OST featured in this anime is very great and fits the Devilman story well. The shot composition and animations are on point, giving you the best Devilman experience other then the legendary manga.

Devilman: Crybaby
(Anime)
add
In the eyes of an avid Go Nagai fan and a more avid DEBIRUMANNNN fan, this felt disappointing. This is directed by Masaki Yuasa one of my favorite directors in anime and was very hyped up but just felt disappointed afterwards. the soundtrack is very good and somehow manages to modernize Devilman but manages to seem stupidly "edgy" even for Devilman. This just seems like the Amon the Apocalypse OVA but with a lot of sex. I can't imagine watching this without prior knowledge, I'd probably hate Crybaby cause of how weird and confusing it is. People recommend this if you haven't read the manga

Yuu☆Yuu☆Hakusho
(Anime)
add
If you want an amazing shounen then this will be the first thing I recommend. Oh yeah also the OST is fucking amazing, like top 10 OSTs ever (why is Studio Pierrot so good at music stuff). It has an anime original ending, but it just improves on the manga to be honest. The main cast of this manga/anime is very lovable and has great movesets. This is very personal but Kuwabara is one of my favorite characters in shounen :). There are some adventures cut in the start so if you like spirit detective stuff, go check out the manga. This is one

Hunter x Hunter
(Anime)
add
The manga and this adaptation of Hunter x Hunter means a lot to me, really so there may be some bias here. It follows the story of Gon Freecss, a boy who aspires to become a hunter to meet his father Ging. This anime has beautiful storytelling and shot composure, OST, voice acting etc. It's everything you'd like about a show. It becomes a 10/10 at the Yorkshin City arc/Genei Ryodan which I thinks completely outshines the reboot in that aspect. If you want to get into this version there is a TV anime and three OVA's so enjoy! This is not your average shounen

Tenshi no Tamago
(Anime)
add
As someone (idk) once said, Show don't tell. This OVA is the epitome of that. The greatness of the OVA was beyond me since I went in completely blind with the knowledge that its an OVA and its awesome. It has very few dialogue scenes but are only when necessary. I really can't think of a complaint here, at all. All I can say is that Junji Ito deserves a movie like this. I hate explaining plot to people and this is no exception. I don't want to tell the viewer what this is about, this movie unravels itself. If I sat here and told

Mahou Sensei Negima!
(Anime)
add
Oh boy, OH BOY where do I even start. This used to be one of my favorite mangas. I remember hearing that it had a anime adaptation, wait MULTIPLE adaptations 2 of them being almost nothing like the manga. But I didnt know that at the time so i peeped it. Disappointment hit like a fucking 100 pound rock. If you want to start this series, read the manga, no matter what. This is a similar situation to Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) where the anime cut corners and made up their own ending. Manga is a 10/10 imo purely because of the magic fights. There are
