[First Thoughts]
— Land of the Lustrous (LoL) reminds me of this show called Steven Universe. It tempted me to pick up where I left off.
— Some of my favorite stories are ones with a categorical group of characters. There are many gemstones (the main protagonists) for people to pick and choose from.
— I was surprised by how engrossed I became with the art style.
[Story]
...
— The plot's pacing is relatively good.
Some may be turned off by the first two episodes, but any exposition takes a while to get through. Plus, it was fun learning about the different gemstones, principles, and scenery.
— A revolving theme of LoL is that people may feel obligated to lose a part of themselves to become something different, stronger, or better.
In the process of losing one's self, one must relinquish valuables like memories, friendship, and happiness.
— LIGHT SPOILER: LoL has an interesting theoretical concept of how the gemstones, Lunarians (the main antagonists), and Admirabilis (other creatures) came to be.
Humans ruled the world for a long time until they decided to divide themselves into three parts.
The flesh became the vulnerable Admirabilis, the bones became the immortal gemstones, and the soul became the tragic Lunarians. The Lunarians constantly seek to recover the human's former state. If I wanted to find my true self again and all my parts were resisting, I would be pissed and desperate.
[Art Style]
— LoL's art style is insanely intriguing.
I usually do not watch anime with tons of CGI because TV shows do not have big movie budgets to make it look spectacular. However, the characters and environments look so sick. The animators and designers created a cool mix of 3D models, segmented 2D parts (Flash), and traditional animation.
— Thank God an anime has finally done color schemes correctly. You see it all the time in anime where there are characters whose favorite colors happen to be their natural hair color, clothing color, eye color, etc.
Each gemstone looks gorgeous (as it should). They all have adorable colored nails and different colored insides. Just like a typical mineral, you have to break each of the characters apart to discover their beautiful inner workings.
[Animation]
— From time to time, the animation appears laggy.
Either some aspects are rendered at different frames per second, or they could have been some shortcuts to finish an episode. If it is the first scenario, the animators made a stylistic choice similar to the first Spiderverse movie.
— There are a lot of fluid scenes and motions in LoL, but most of them occur in earlier episodes.
The benefit of 3D animation is that it is much easier to reuse past animation cycles. The downside of 3D animation is that it can appear stiff and dull; however, the animators go out of their way to use the squash and stretch tactics of traditional animation.
[Sound]
— I am so glad that I chose to watch this in subbed English.
Each voice feels suitable and when a few characters change (Phos and Alex), their voices transform appropriately.
— Words can not describe how much I love the music in the opening and ending. It's been a while since I added anime songs to my Spotify playlist. Additionally, the visuals in the intro are phenomenal.
— Guess what! They got mothafukking Killua to voice one very cool gemstone (Antarcticite). Get this! It solidifies in chilling temperatures and remains liquid in warmer climates. How kewl is dat! Omegalul Poggers dood!!!!
[Characters]
— Alright. The characters are pretty nifty.
I was not turned off by any of them except Phos before the personality shift. Phos was kind of annoying and a burden to several. As a result of negativity and such, Phos changed to appease others and build a false sense of confidence. This is some exceptional character development right here.
— I do not have any particular favorite characters, yet all of the gemstones are enchanting.
I admire Cinnabar-chan, Alexandrite-kun, Morganite-chan, Neptunite-chan, and Yellow Diamond-kun the most. 😍

Attack on Titan still makes the same mistakes it has been producing since 2013.
Bad:
—The characters keep explaining things after and as they happen — either in their head or in a flashback.
-Not everything needs to be explained! This excess dialogue is slowing the plot down.
-I have to admit; I want to know what characters are thinking before they die. However, Attack on Titan rarely does this.
—Why did it seem like the Beast Titan knew about baseball when Attack on Titan takes place in 400 something C.E? .......
—Attack on Titan’s art style has always been weird. Still, the Colossal Titan and the Armored Titan’s anatomy and
...
CGI is starting to become bothersome.
—The Colossal Titan kicked Eren into a wall when it could have kicked him straight to the Beast Titan. What kind of lousy writing is this? I thought the objective was to capture Eren.
—I still do not like short piss-stained hair girl. She is only an important character because she has royal blood. Take away her royal blood, and what is she? Regular garbage. She is royal garbage, and I want to see her turn into regular garbage.
Good:
—I always liked the sounds of Reiner’s armored titan (the mechanical ones and his golem-like ancient voice).
—I always wanted to see past events from the enemy’s perspective, and the show delivered in episode three.
-Why can they not show flashbacks that people want to see and not waste the viewer’s time? R.I.P Marco
—It has come to my realization that Mikasa is a dude. In fact, I like the idea of Mikasa being a dude more than a chick. She can be a girl at heart, though it would please me if everyone addressed her as a guy, and she used her deep voice all the time.
—I am not going to spoil, but holy shit, this series is starting to get better!
-I can not wait to talk about the plot in my season four review!
—They “dealt” with a character I was not too fond of.
—Oh my god, Misaka with bedhead hair is doing something to me 😩
—What they did with the Smiling Titan is ingenious.
—“Anyone can become a god or a devil. All it takes is for people to believe it.” Jesus Christ, why is this series just now getting so good!
—If they end up traveling through the past or to the future, freeze time, destroy time, you name it.... I am going to lose my shit!
—I said it in my last review, and I will repeat it! Erwin is an underrated smart character! Now I know what he meant when he asked, “who is the real enemy?”
—Floch is a great character. He’s like an attempt for the writers to be self-aware. I love it! Keep showing stuff like this, and I will put Attack on Titan in my top ten list.
—This season is giving me “Truman Show” vibes.
—Remember these two motifs, freedom and the truth. This series deals with both very well, and I will elaborate more in the final season review.
Attack on Titan would be so much better if they combined seasons 1 and 2 into a 20 something season — cutting out a lot of unnecessary context. Also, combine some parts of season 4 with season 3 — cutting out a lot of excessive context in season 3’s parts. If they did that, Attack on Titan would have the best pacing of any Shonen anime I’ve ever seen! I might have to deprive it of a high spot in my top ten list because of poorly written characters and terrible pacing. :(

The series is starting to get better, but they keep making major mistakes. I really want to like Attack on Titan, yet it keeps disappointing me.
Bad:
After watching season two and three episodes of season three, I realized that I am not too fond of the short piss-stained hair chick. Her voice is unpleasant; she is a Mary Sue, some other characters see her as a goddess, and she only gets attention because she is what the series is fundamentally about (which is not a good thing).
Why do they balance the weight of the series on two characters? Main character does not mean most important character.
It
...
took 44 episodes for the short piss-stained hair chick to turn into a real character. I understand why she was a mindless doll, but not really. Having gained what she gained made no difference in her mentality. The writer(s) changed the character to keep the plot moving. Therefore, the short piss-stained hair chick is most definitely the worst Attack On Titan character written so far.
The pacing is still poor. I had to skip through a few episodes filled with unnecessary scenes and stories.
The CGI was bearable before, but now it looks horrendous — especially on a certain individual.
Mikasa is the real threat to humanity. Everything she does is for Eren. If Eren wants to sacrifice himself for the good of humanity, Mikasa would disagree with his decision. Not because she thinks it is a bad idea for humanity, yet because Eren’s life is in danger. At this point, Mikasa is not her own character — she only lives for Eren. She is like a pimple or parasite.
Spoiler: In a coup d’etat, why would you replace a defective leader with the child of that defective leader? Put the candidate, who is most fit to lead, in charge, goddammit! Why do they have to have a continuing line of royal blood? If Erwin, Levi, Armin, et cetera stayed true to their characters, they would turn the kingdom into a democracy instead of continuing a stupid monarchy.
There are crazy oxygen machines and auto-titan killers, and no one can develop a working prosthetic arm? Sigh.
Good:
I am so happy that they fixed Mikasa’s art design. I roasted the hell out of her in my season two review. The main problem was her horrible lipstick/lip color and the inconsistency of her eyes, head, hair, face, and body.
People are underestimating Zoe and Erwin’s intelligence. They deserve to be treated as smarter characters than Levi and Armine — at least on the same level as Armine. Levi has a high battle IQ. Armine has a general high IQ. On the other hand, Zoe and Erwin have an exceedingly high general and battle IQ.
In the beginning, there are a few action sequences with Levi in them. I could die complacent knowing that something as beautiful as that action animation exists.
I am extremely thrilled that food girl got a lot less screen time. Also, her scene with the meat was pretty funny.
This is how I see the characters at this point (from Best to Worst):
Erwin>
Levi>
Reiner>
Annie>
Zoe>
Eren>
Armin>
Jean>
Ymir>
Krillin>
Mikasa>
Food Girl>
Short Piss-Stained Hair Chick

I very much enjoyed Parasyte -the maxim-, and I would recommend this to anyone.
Good:
It is like I truly felt like the main character. At one point, I hated Kana with my right hand, but I liked her with my left hand.
When Mitsuo confronted Shinichi after Kana’s death, I shed a tear through my right eye only, but my left had a tear on the break of being let go.
They say when someone cries and the first drop comes from the right eye, it indicates happiness. When a tear comes from the left first, it indicates pain. It is like I was happy but holding back
...
pain.
I really like the criticism of the human race. Especially the thing with slaughtering animals and consuming them. Oh, but when a stronger species starts devouring humans, we have a problemo.
The double standards and hypocrisy really grind my gears. Humans need to pay!
I loved the commentary on human normalcy (or normalcy in general).
People expect that they know everything about a person, yet they do not. Not everything will go how you want it. Once something triggers your selfish needs, you think that the cause (or person) is not normal.
Oh my Christ, there are some really nice OSTs in Parasyte. My favorites are “CREEP,” “HUMAN,” and “Next To You.”
The English dub voice actors are amazing besides some. We have Black Star as Migi, a guy that sounds like Lulu as Shinichi, and an amazing serial killer voice as Uragami, who also voices Elizabeth from Gintama!
At first, I was creeped out by the look of the parasites. By the end of the series, the art style grew on me. I can say with utmost confidence that I would let my hypothetical daughter date a parasite.
Bad:
I could not make up my mind if I loved/liked or hated Kana.
Kana popped up so randomly, and it does not make any sense how she obtained her powers nor why she became so obsessed with Shinichi.
Like why did she have to appear? What was her real purpose? This pisses me off a bit, and Kana kind of almost ruined the show.
Why was Kana having wet dreams about a random dude she just met? I do not understand her obsession with Shichi.
I do not particularly appreciate how it is a repeated theme that characters think they sense something else from people. This may be a fictional series, but the magical sensing of “off people” is absurd and needs to stop.
Happens a lot with Shinichi and Murano.
Happens with Ryoko Tamiya and her mother.
Ryoko Tamiya got no ass, and I find it pretty hilarious yet disappointing.
You hear gunshots, and you decide to go towards the sound. Sure the noise died down but come on... that had to have been the most senseless thing ever done in this series.
I love the voice actors except for bootleg Velma Dinkley, off-brand Kallen Stadtfeld, and their pet monkey girl.

Good
When the action is heavy, there is a lot of nice, fluid animation.
The inside-out look of some titans looks nifty.
Amazing voice actors and performances all around (I watched this season in Japanese).
This season is filled with crazy good sound effects and visual effects.
Many people died, some spared for the plot; still, important figures die.
The viewer may develop a fetish after witnessing "some things."
The ranking system and military code are done well — to a certain extent.
Some characters look amazing! 😍
...
The story is exceptionally unique and satisfying (nearly all the way).
This season includes interesting warfare, physical and psychological. For instance, the Spider-Man cable things are sick.
Attack on Titan is a nice, representational, good cliche shonen anime.
Bad
The art style is hit or miss.
The lipstick (or colored lips) on some females looks terrible (especially Mikasa).
Misaka looks better without lipstick. Her eyes, face, and head got weird after the first time skip. She is supposed to be one of the tough as nails chicks who are not afraid to get dirty — not some dainty harlot.
The art style (proportions, scaling, et cetera) is inconsistent on many occasions. Misaka is done the worst; she looks like a doll or a dude half the time. I stop watching Attack on Titan for one episode, and she looks different the next.
In episode four, Hannes and some other dudes walked into a scene with Eren, Armine, and Misaka. Hannes and the dude's patches were roses in one shot and wings in the next. There may be more errors like this that I overlooked.
Eren yelled so much in the first two episodes. He almost ruptured my eardrums.
The pacing was decent until the fifth episode.
My God, surely they know that not every flashback, explanation, breakdown, or recap is necessary. Let the story tell itself through action, and stop dragging out episodes for no good reason!
This season automatically loses points due to a need to skip through so much excessive crap.
Why do characters get ESP as soon as someone far across the map (out of sight) possibly dies?
Most of the stuff done for dramatic effect is ill-executed and sometimes corny.
There is not enough gore. People want to see some entrails and brain matter get ripped out. Show the viewer a clear sight of arms and legs being torn from their sockets.
In episode ten, the main characters stayed in the same spot nearly half the episode, for no good reason!
Some of the secondary/side characters are terribly written.
Food girl, freckles girl, short blondie girl (not the queen, Annie, of course), Misaka (when she looks weird or acts out of character), and the shaved head guy (that is basically Krillin) are all pretty irritating and nonsensical.
Food girl, why did you sign up for something when you are the biggest burden on the team?
I wished they died sooner than episode seventeen; I hardly enjoyed any of their pathetic screen time.
