I loved the dystopian setting of this anime. It did a good job of building how society came to this point, and showed the consequences of over-relying on a flawed system. The motivations of characters were unique, well thought out and believable.

The one thing I really didn't like about this show was the main character - Tsunemori Akane. She is such a Mary Sue that it throws off the whole vibe. I much would've preferred to have her relegated to a side character: she has very little depth and motivation. I do like the development she has in the last couple episodes, and I ... understand that she is there as a foil to Kogami, but I wish she was a little less perfect - a little more human.

I also wish there was more screen time given to Kagari :(. Certain parts of his life were mentioned in passing, and I wish they would've focused on him a bit more. Kunizuka got a full episode for her backstory, and she barely shows up at all as an Enforcer.

Putting those minor grievances aside, the anime was thought-provoking and I enjoyed it a lot.

Overall score is almost entirely due to concept and character design. Both main characters have intriguing backstories and well-constructed personalities, and I enjoy their interactions with eachother. The story was promising as well when I first started watching.

However, the entire first season could've been cut to like 4 episodes. I was fast forwarding through pointless dialogue and overextended silences A LOT. It took three episodes to resolve an issue that should've been done with in one, simply because they just. kept. talking. I never thought overexplaining was a legitimate complaint with anime - far too often I find things aren't talked about enough - ... but this changed my mind. Most of the run-time is them deliberating and racking their skulls over something fairly obvious.

It could've been a great anime... if the pacing and script was written by someone else. Everything was set up so perfectly, it was a huge let down to watch.
