(i don't usually write reviews but this sparked an interesting topic for me that i thought would be cool to discuss)
The art for YOI was amazing and it definitely catered to the style that i love, something that stopped it from being 10 was the repetitiveness of the ice skating scenes - then again understandable as they do the same pieces, i doubt they could've learnt more in the time just something i noticed.
I liked the story, sports anime generally spark my interest since i've only just started watching some, not much to say in this regard tho, story was pretty predictable.
Sound was
...
also good, loved the op lmao very catchy, other than that the sound was alright for me not much else to say.
charactersss....ugh. I've read a lot of people saying that YOI isn't queerbait because they are canon, but they aren't. This really bummed me out and disappointed me as someone who is bi and loves to explore and watch gay relationships unfold - i was really excited to see it happen. But let's be real, the "kiss" was censored, probably didn't even happen, they got rings yes for "good luck", they joked about marriage but really when it came down to it, Yuri was very clear in saying they weren't dating and specifically said he didnt want to see victor as a boyfriend. I love seeing flirty close friendships in anime don't get me wrong - but this was obviously leading people on to a relationship that wasn't going to happen ))):
Love the guy that jizzes when he ice-skates tho lol
overall was a cute anime, incorporated some original ideas, thought it was beautiful but ultimately disappointed probably because of all the hype around it. if you're looking for a flirty friendship with gay undertones, some hot ice-skaters and some precious characters (yurio + phichit <3) you might like
