This anime is one of my absolute favorites (top 25 of all time). On the surface franxx is a post apocalyptic story about children teaming up in male/female pairings in mechas to fight ever changing robotic animal/humaniod/construct like creatures. Its got heavy influences from anime like neon genesis and gurren lagann with a bit of the promised neverland mixed in. and as with all those animes, there's much more to it than whats on the surface. Franxx touches on intimacy, identity, compatibility, love(a lost and forgotten concept in the series), puberty, the importance of the roles men and women play in our different relationships with each

other, and how we need one another, the importance of individuality, classism and an interesting take on how capitalist societies, start, function, and how those in power exploit the "lesser" classes from the time theyre children by making them feel like giving their very lives for those in charge is the greatest duty their life holds. All in all there's a lot to unpack here but its much easier to comprehend than neon genesis and the new age animation makes it easy and entertaining to watch. With only 24 episodes, and no buffer episodes before it really gets good i recommend this to anyone looking to branch out into the futuristic, mecha, political, post apocalyptic, kids trying not to get murdered genre of anime. Available to watch on funimation, crunchyroll, and amazon prime.

Do you like stranger things? If so, you might like this! Today I'd like to shed light on a more obscure anime from my favorite era of anime, the mid 2000's. ghost hound came out in 2007 and is about a boy who was kidnapped with his sister when they were younger. He survived but she didn't. This trauma was the catalyst for him to start experiencing O.B.E. or Astral projection. In this hidden spectral realm he searches for answers about his kidnapper and his sisters death. Two classmates of his are also able to Astral project and together they discover that the spirits have

become restless and malevolent, effecting the "real" world. With Dai nippon bio (a mysterious and classified science lab in the middle of the mountains) at the epicenter of these events the boys discover what really goes on there and the world altering changes that could follow.. This anime is an intriguing exploration into the workings of memory and our perception of the world. While the plot sounds deep and heavy, it's pacing is surprisingly laid back. With detective themes and a jazzy soundtrack it's a smooth and sophisticated watch with the perfect balance of mellow and intrigue that gets better every time I watch it.

Black lagoon is an anime classic, and one I put off watching for far too long. It came out in 2006 by studio madhouse. The same studio behind animes like ninja scroll, perfect blue, Trigun, deathnote parasyte, and one punch man. Its one of the few animes I recommend to people who are new to anime or aren't super into anime as a medium, just like deathnote and fullmetal alchemist brotherhood. The premise of black lagoon is about rokuro, a Japanese business man who is a whipping boy for the higher ups in his company. When an important disc from his company was stolen

by mercenary pirates he's sent to retrieve it and is kidnapped in the process. Seeing how his company and his boss have no concern for his safety and well being as a hostage, he throws his old job and his old life away and joins the same mercenaries who kidnapped him and reinvents himself as "rock". the story follows their pirate group the lagoon company as they gun run, smuggle, steal, kidnap, and kill for anyone who pays them in the most dangerous, lawless city on earth. If you like gun slinging action thrillers such as movies like John wick or animes like cowboy bebop, darker than black, gangsta, and hellsing ultimate, you'll love this series. Blood, violence, gunfights, murder, profanity, drugs, and a superb English dub, black lagoon has it all!

Do you, like myself, have trouble sleeping? Worry not I've got just the remedy. Get cozy, pour yourself a nightcap, and turn on an episode of sleepy princess in the demon castle this show is charming, cute, and simplistically enjoyable on so many levels. For starters let's go over the setting. Shows like the office and other sitcoms are cozy and relaxing in big part due to most of the show taking place in 1 room, whether in be an office or a living room, a basement, apartment etc coming back to a small space repeatedly and consistently gives us a sense of comfortability and

predictability that enables us to relax and this series utilizes that well. The main setting of this being the princesses "jail cell" (I'll elaborate on the quotations shortly) the set up and premise is that the demon king has kidnapped the princess of the human world to use as a ransom to negotiate his monster citizens rights to peacefully live amongst humans. The ongoing joke is that the princess is completely indifferent about that and is immensely more concerned with the sleeping conditions of her cell being much less regal than the royal bedroom to which she's accustomed thus every night she (very easily) breaks out of her cell, meanders around the castle obliviously causing ensuing chaos for all the monsters living there just so she can find better sleeping materials to bring back to her cell, willingly lock herself back in, and get a good night's rest. This lighthearted gag grew on me so quickly and watching all the monsters grow to cherish having her around was so wholesome, genuine and endearing. If you're looking for a cute, funny, laid back, easy watch, I recommend this to the moon 🌙 happy viewing and sleep tight 🖤

I've been meaning to review this for a awhile now but I knew this review would be long so I've been putting it off however i figured it was time. Bare with me and let's dive right in. First off the animation of the series itself is the intense eye popping color and unique art style studio gainax is acclaimed for. Other notable animes from Gainax are the critically esteemed Neon genesis evangelion, and fooly cooly (more commonly abbreviated as FLCL) GURREN LAGANN was released in 2007 which is one of my favorite time periods in anime and this is one prime example. However I
...
didn't first watch it until a year ago and I'm kicking myself for having missed out for so long. Where to even start? The animation itself is incredible. Even compared to the insanely high budgeted animes of today gurren lagann still holds up as visually engaging, colorful, and very unique. The fight scenes of this series are some of the most enjoyable to watch of any anime in any genre that I've ever seen. The premise is that for hundreds of years humanity has lived underground in cave systems. Humans have lived underground for so long that concepts like "the surface" have long been disregarded as myth and legend. However our 2 leading characters believe it exists and are restless and hopeful to uncover a world right above their heads. Now this description is MAYBE 10% of the entire story with a minor plot twist in episode 2, a huge plot twist in episode 8 and one of the biggest plot twists I've seen in anime in episode 17. I've barely scratched the surface but I dare not reveal anymore. Almost every single episode is so over the top action packed insane that I had no idea how they could outdo themselves but then the very next episode would prove me wrong. This show goes from 0-100 in a compact 27 episodes and I loved every second of it. Excluding some of my personal favorite animes like slice of life/romance and some I may view through nostalgia goggles, gurren lagann easily places in my top 10 best of all time. Do you have what it takes to pierce the heavens?
