SHORT INTRO TO S2P2 (FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MUSHOKU TENSEI)
"Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation," adapted from Rifujin na Magonote's light novel series, is an isekai adventure anime focusing on Rudeus Greyrat, the protagonist. Although the series is mainly an adventure/isekai, it also involves action, drama, slice of life, and ecchi elements. In the previous cour of Season 2, the narrative focused on Rudeus' experiences at the Ranoa University of Magic. This cour didn't contain much action and revolved around Rudeus's you-know-what, which was kind of boring to some viewers. This
...
cour begins like a sweet slice-of-life anime but reverts to the core themes of Season 1: adventure and action. This review wonโt be long, because I donโt want to (majorly) spoil the show. Iโll just write about the key things and keep it short and simple.
CHARACTERS
Rifujin na Magonote's character writing is genius. He does what others can't: developing characters in a good, well-paced manner. This truly is what sets "Mushoku Tensei" apart from other isekai anime. Imagine: you die and had a dull, monotonous life. Would you take the opportunity to redeem yourself after you get reincarnated? Yes, you most likely would, and this is exactly what Rudeus did too: grab the opportunity and live a more dynamic life. All characters in this anime are very unique and easy to empathize with. The point is - which is probably also why people 'hate' on it - is that not all characters are perfect human beings. Everyone progresses through life in their own unique way, and it isn't always the 'best' or the 'perfect way.'
VISUALS
Studio Bind is responsible for the "Mushoku Tensei" series and nails the animation and visuals. The show's visuals have a unique look; you can tell it apart from all the other anime out there. Not in a negative way, but in a good way. The fights are well animated and feel very intense. The colors arenโt too vibrant, which I personally prefer in an anime. Letโs also talk about the OP (and its visuals). When I first watched the opening, I was blown away by how amazing it looked: the storytelling, the smooth transitions, the song, the foreshadowing, โฆ Some people donโt like the song, and thatโs okay. After all, itโs way different from the previous openings. That doesn't change the fact that I adore it, though.
MUSIC / SFX
While the music got a bit worse than in the first season, it's most certainly still great. There's good use of music and sound effects when needed, and it adds that little bit of extra emotion to the viewer.
STORY
Like I mentioned earlier, the show goes back to its core themes, which is really suspenseful and exciting to watch again. It also gets a bit emotional, which I think also is a necessary aspect of a good anime. If you've read all the way up to this point in my review, it's a sign that you're interested and have to watch the show. I'm saying this because I don't want to spoil the storyโ
CONCLUSION
The second part of Season 2 of "Mushoku Tensei" stabilizes back to its absolute greatness. A must-watch for all anime fans.
Thank you for reading this review and have a great day :)
