I managed to make it through 4 episodes without jumping out a window or cutting my wrists. This anime is boring as heck. I literally fell asleep during one episode.
Story: it's been done before, a MILLION times before. There are ways to take this plot and make it stand out from similar animes, but this one was pretty much an epic fail in my book.
Art: Clean, with lots of flowy lines. The boys were too flowery for my tastes.
Sound: meh. I never noticed anything special.
Character: all cliche boy characters; totally unhelpful grandma; wimpy, whiny, spineless, bland heroine.
Enjoyment: none.
...
I suffered and had to throw in the towel a third of the way through.
Overall: save your precious time for an anime that's actually good!

I love funny anime. YNSH is a very light anime that has a plot which is not at all complicated. It's good if you want something pretty cheesy and mindless to watch after a long day. Unfortunately, it wasn't as funny as I hoped, and the humor that was there was not at all witty and in fact pretty lame sometimes.
Story: very simple plot, only a microscopic bit of romance. The premise makes you expect that at every given chance, the four boys will be trying to force Sunako to become a lady, but they don't really try that much. In
...
a way this was good because the subliminal message is accepting people for who they are and liking people because of how they treat you, even if some of their hobbies are "scary" or "weird" or even if they are supernaturally good-looking.
Art: All the characters spend a good amount of time as featureless chibis. When the characters were in non-chibi form, I thought the art was pretty bland, and I didn't like the male character designs. They were all angles, plump lips, girly faces, and not at all manly. Some anime characters can legit make me swoon. These men looked too girly 99% of the time, and I was totally turned off to them 5 minutes into the first episode.
Sound: I liked the opening and closing songs (the 2nd closing song better than the first). I actually really like the BGM. There are little themes in the BGM that play during certain moods or types of scenes and I thought it gave the series some continuity. It's also kind of fun sometimes when you hear a certain little jingle and you can think "Oh, Sunako is going to go crazy in a second" or "yup, the boys are going to start dazzling any moment", and then you are right.
Character: The development is a bit more subtle than in some animes, which I didn't mind. Sunako definitely grows more than any of the other characters. The male characters are typical male anime tropes: "cute and girly" pretty boy, tall-dark-and-stoic, player/lover-boy, and hunky bad-boy. It was interesting to see how they all felt differently about their looks. In some reverse-harem animes, the bishies all know it and they love it, so it was refreshing to see that sometimes their good looks even caused some problems! It was also nice to see how very different personalities got along, and neat to see how they had to learn to respect each other's feelings and boundaries.
Enjoyment: after a long day of college classes and work, when I'm feeling pretty brain-dead and blah, this was ok to relax with and got me laughing a few times.

This manga is pretty fast-paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. I read it in one night because I was so anxious to find out what was going to happen next! The characters also develop in a very believable way. You get to see relationships strained by jealousy, fondness formed by making sacrifices for somebody, and the different ways people deal with stress. I really got attached to the characters - loving them, hating them, cheering for them, booing at them, and cheering for them all over again.
One thing that really irked me with this manga was the
...
art. It's not bad, but all the characters look like high schoolers from Sailor Moon or something! It's impossible to determine their actual age. This makes it a little difficult to take some situations as seriously as I would if they looked like the adults they are. Youhei especially looked younger than what I guessed he should be.
Also, [spoiler alert!] Kaori is supposed to be pregnant for a good portion of the manga, but she never *looks it*! Because so many other aspects of the story are very true-to-life, I was a bit disappointed by this. I mean, at one point it mentions she is 30 weeks pregnant but she still looks like a freakin' twig! I have several friends that are about that far along right now and they are huge! So at times that was very distracting from the story. I would get all involved and forget it was just a manga, then you'd see Kaori talking about "the baby" but still extremely thin and it jerked me back to reality.
Finally, the ending was wrapped up a bit too neatly and wasn't even close to what I expected, based on how the manga had unfolded so far. It was like the mangaka thought, "Oh, I'm bored and I just want these two to get together, but I'm fresh out of good ideas so I'll end this in the most *unrealistic* way ever! Teehee!"
Overall, great manga. It was definitely worth the time I spent reading it. But be forewarned that the ending is not satisfying.

First off, the art didn't really tickle my fancy - more sketchy looking than I usually like - but it was pretty endearing once I got used to it.
This manga is really short, but I feel that a lot of feeling and thought was put into it, really bringing it to life! One thing that really intrigued me was that usually, these stories about teen pregnancy are told from the girl's point of view and focus more on whether or not she will abort. This manga, however, was told from the man's point of view. We get to see his fears, his
...
regrets, and how he emotionally processes becoming a father and deals with parenthood and the relationship with his wife. The character development was great.
This manga isn't exactly light. There isn't any smut/sex scenes (I actually appreciate not having that), but it does show families falling apart and falling together, the value of life, taking responsibility for mistakes, and learning to be a parent. The mangaka handled all this in a very realistic and mature way, I think.
Overall, one of the best mangas about pregnancy and new parents that I have read in a while. I think it will be memorable for the people who read it.

I never knew that Miyazaki did any mangas--before I read this, his name was synonymous with anime movies such as Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. I was interested to read this, because I read that it was done before many of his other works. I began to read Shuna no Tabi with the hopes that it would be as wonderful as Miyazaki's later works.
I was not disappointed! The art is done in the beautiful, typical Miyazaki style--even fully colored! The art was stunning. I can't imagine how much time he must have put into each panel. The character
...
development is sufficient for a short story of this length, but I wish we had gotten to know the backgrounds of Thea and her sister. You end up loving them, even though you don't know them well. And from the beginning, you are rooting for Shuna on his journey.
This manga is very different from others that I have read in that the story is mostly told through the art and some narration. There is very little dialogue. Still, the story flows smoothly and it is easy to understand. The lack of dialogue adds to the fairytale-like feel of it.
You will notice that many elements of this manga show up later in his other works. I think Shuna was used as the basis of Ashitaka's (Princess Mononoke) character; the two look almost exactly the same and both ride a reindeer-type creature.

I had read the mangaka's other (perhaps more well-known) work, "Tsuki no Shippo" a long time ago, and loved it. When I started reading "Home" I realized right away that the beautiful artwork was familiar, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover that "Home" and "Tsuki no Shippo" were by the same author. I think I enjoyed "Tsuki no Shippo" more, because it has a more complicated plot, but "Home" is still a very charming manga.
Story - 8: Overall, the story is uncomplicated and somewhat predictable: pretty Spanish girl meets mysterious-looking Japanese samurai, by the cliché way of tripping and falling into his
...
arms. I could foresee the ending just from reading the summary, but the idea of a Japan/Spain story was pretty intriguing. There were a few plot twists that made me think my predictions *might* actually be wrong.
Art - 10: Ueda Rinko has some of the nicest art I've ever seen. The eyes aren't really huge, as they are in some other more modern mangas, and the hair is really well-drawn. Of course the guys are all absolute bishies, but what I really like is how proportionate and non-stick-like the bodies are. Maria actually has some shape! And I think the backgrounds were well-done, but you don't really notice them because your attention is so focused on the beautifully-drawn characters. ♥.♥
Character - 8: There wasn't a whole lot of mystery surrounding any of the characters. At some points, they may seem a little flat, but then they do something you didn't really expect and they grow a little more. By the end, you grow to like characters that you didn't really like at the beginning. But there is not much definite good guy/bad guy action, which is actually pleasant, because real people have a little of both good and bad in them. Overall, the characters are pretty lifelike.
Enjoyment - 9: The wonderful art takes up some of the slack where the story seems predictable. The characters make you want to keep reading to see what happens to them, and you feel like rooting for your favorite couple. Plus, the story was fast-moving and there's not a momentous amount of chapters, so it's not a daunting task to read. I read the story in one afternoon, but I didn't feel like it was rushed, except maybe once or twice. Besides, who can resist a handsome samurai?

I'll just say right now that "Hanatsukihime" is one of my favorite mangas.
Story: At the beginning of each chapter, the story of how she got the flower mark is quickly reiterated, which detracts from the story slightly, but then if it was originally published in a serial magazine, that makes sense... After a few chapters, it should become obvious to you who Lys's devil is, but the story remains intriguing as you learn more and more about the devil/hanatsuki relationship. It kept my attention and I HAD to keep reading, to find out what would happen to Lys!
Art: the art is gorgeous!
...
Some people may not like how large the girls' eyes are, but everything else about the characters' bodies is very proportionate, and the details are really lovely. Also, if you don't fall in love with Siva's bishie-ness after one chapter, there is definitely something wrong with you!
Character: The characters develop at just the right pace, I think. I definitely wouldn't want their stories to move along any slower, because it would drag the whole story down. You get to know the history of each of the main characters (Siva, Lys, Russet) by end of the manga, which is satisfying.
Enjoyment: This is one of the few mangas that has stayed with me, a couple years after I originally read it. I loved it so much, that I've gone back and reread it a few times! It is a very poignant story, one that will make you laugh, cry, and think. It goes beyond a well-presented story; it touches you and you really connect with each character.
Overall: I would recommend this to anyone! It's one of my favorite mangas, and if you read it, I promise you won't be disappointed!

This story was really great! It touched some soft, sentimental part of me-- I fell in love with it from the first chapter. The basic premise of the story is really quite cliche (girl living in apartment with a bunch of weirdos, falls in love with a total bishie) but something about Midori is so endearing. She's not the overused sexy, air-headed, boy-magnet, martyr of love. She's really lovable and her personality isn't nauseatingly weak, unlike some shoujo heroines.
The whole story is full of little comedic moments that make you laugh out loud, and wonderful, sweet romantic scenes that make you
...
want, no--NEED more. And I think that the story had a nice conclusion. It leaves you satisfied but because you loved the story so much you want it to keep going!
The art is not anything special or amazing, but I thought everything was very well drawn... especially the characters when viewed in profile. Don't get me wrong, there ARE flaws (in the beginning, the fingers seem freakishly long and Midori's eyes are often drawn annoyingly large) but it's a very clean art style overall.
Unlike your average shoujo there is character development (shocker, I know!) and you really fall in love with all the characters. Overall, I completely enjoyed this manga and will definitely be checking out more of this mangaka's work!

The art looks like it was drawn by a grade-schooler, but you get the idea that it was done that way on purpose. The simplicity is kind of pleasant in a way that can't really be explained. It somehow adds to the charm of this story. It's only 12 pages long, but that is plenty long enough to warm your heart and make you feel happy. "Moyashi Fuufu" is basically a story about an older couple who are still happy together, and they're really very cute together! ^_^ I loved this one-shot.

The overall premise was very interesting... although I predicted the end from the MAL summary. But I liked the concept of two people being "linked" together. Overall, it was definitely worth the read.
I personally loved the art and thought it was charming. Don't get me wrong, I've seen much more beautiful mangas than this one, but something about the simplicity of the drawings was really pleasant. The people were proportionate, which is more than most mangas can boast.
I felt the characters didn't get developed enough, and the ending was a little rushed. But very few one-shots have fully-developed
...
plots.
