The plot intertwined the aspect of sports with the aspects of human emotional growth and romance well. Well enough for someone who only cared about one of those to still enjoy it. It certainly doesn't reveal any deeper humane philosophical purposes but contains enough mental stimulation to certainly rise above any other Sports anime. This is a Sports anime for people who don't like Sports anime.
The character design is very appealing. They also develop somewhat realistically. We can see Yuri's journey from despair to confidence, from emanating a pork cutlet bowl, to wanting to be attractive to Viktor. There are certainly however many unrealistic moments

To be honest this anime is probably intended for a very young audience . It gets extremely boring and has really no purpose. There isn't even very much material to discuss. It can be described as a very good anime for young children. There are generic morals to be learnt, cute "animal sidekick", appealing art, and interesting concept. Overall it just isn't very enjoyable for older individuals.

I believe this is an anime where the watcher must be that age to understand. It just isn't the type of thing that middle schoolers can really appreciate on more than a surface level. Many may not enjoy it for the lack of a "purpose" or antagonist but that is what I think makes this anime better than things like Servamp or Sword Art Online. It isn't like Tokyo Ghoul either in dressing up a lack of any psychological purpose or life meaning with nice graphics, sound track, and likable characters.
