The introduction seemed promissing, but after the first few chapters it just doesn't really evolve.
The still decent score can only be explained by the combat scenes (like 80% of the manga I estimate). Because there is a lot of combat the story remains shallow. The enermies are boring, the allies are made and thrown away just like that it seems. A few different things are tried to make it less shallow at the start, but after a while the authors seems to have given up and just made it a battle simulator.

A yuri manga of the school girl variety.
This is one of the best yuri manga there is imo. Right up there with "Citrus" and "Bloom into you". It has similarities in many ways simply because it's also school based, but the art and story are in no way copies. The MCs are a gyaru and an otaku (bit like Citrus). And the main topic that seems to move the story forward is "being cute" (on the surface level). This doesn't sound that exciting, and perhaps it isn't for you, but it's appropriate for a manga about school girls and the way the story is build ...

One of those "kicked out of the hero's party" kinda mangas again. One of the better ones in my opinion. It starts of similar to Arifureta, in that the MC is kicked out while in the dungeon. Unlike Arifureta there is way less emo cringe stuff going on though. And the slightly annoying amount of ecchi that's in there isn't here as all.
The story isn't that original overall (kicked out of the hero's party genre), but it's not boring either. There are enough new elements in there. And the pacing is good. (8/10) Character wise the MC does get a bit of background story, but ...

One of those "kicked out of the hero's party" kind of stories...but really bad.
The art is okay, but that's pretty much the only decent thing. The story is all over the place and the characters have no depth. Stuff just happens. The side characters just appear and disappear. It all just goes a bit too quickly, the pace is off. More time is required when introducing characters, so that as a reader we can get a feel for them. The MC is also pretty much expressionless. There isn't evben some stupid humor to redeem the manga somewhat. These "kicked out of the hero's party" stories ...

In short, if you like "Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei / The Irregular at Magic High School" you will like this as well. It is pretty much required to first watch that, the main show, before starting this. This is more backstory and details regarding that main story, mostly from Miyuki's perspective.
The story starts at the same point as the main show, joining the magic school, and goes all the way through the competition between schools. It jumps around a lot though. This is why watching the main show first is pretty much mandatory. The art and VA is the same as the main show I'd ... |
