Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. (Cynical MC and Cute Girls)
The series doesn't have clear pros and cons, so I'm writing a joint review.
Main Character.
The main character is neither this nor that—dull and lacking in emotion. Compared to someone like Sakuta from SeishunButaYarou, he definitely falls short due to his complete lack of emotion. While Sakuta can sometimes be an emotional idiot, the main character here is a bit worse, as he constantly wears a poker face. I compared them only because they both fit the cliché of a certain type of hero. At least he's not stupid, which is a relief.
Supporting Characters.
Most
...
of the secondary characters aren't annoying. Among the supporting cast, Hayato Hayama and Yoshiteru Zaimokuza stand out the most. Hayato is charismatic, while Yoshiteru acts like a fool, which makes him stand out from the rest. Yukinoshita, however, is nauseating because she's a clone of the main character, acting as lifeless as a log. Thank goodness they show more of the emotional Yui instead of this walking plank.
Questionable Intelligence of One-Off Characters.
I almost forgot to mention them, but they're really dumb. The fact that none of them were outraged by Minami Sagami’s attitude toward the upcoming festival speaks volumes. Their reactions to the protagonist’s hints are at least somewhat reasonable—for people with Down syndrome. Hikki hints that she's doing nothing, but they think he's complaining because he wants to rest. Brilliant, Watson. (A con has been discovered.)
No Plot.
Yep, this anime has no plot, but it's not hard to watch, although boredom and waves of stupidity do make themselves known at times.
References.
- A reference to *Steins;Gate* through Yoshiteru Zaimokuza, who seems very similar to Itaru Hashida.
- A reference to *Death Note* with the phrase "Become the God of the new world."
- A reference to *JoJo* with the Stand users being drawn to each other.
- A reference to *The Terminator* with the music in episode 13 when the door opens.
- A reference to *Fate/Unlimited Codes* and *Fate/Stay Night*.
- A reference to *Naruto* with the running style.
That's it. No conclusions, just a rating of 7/10. Watch it only for the sake of watching it—don't expect comedy or a plot, because they're not here.

I recently watched this cartoon on a friend's recommendation, and here are my thoughts.
First off, I'd like to calm down the rabid Monogatari fans who claim this show "stole" ideas from Monogatari. Chill out, please. The only real similarity is that the MC helps different girls solve their problems one by one. Yeah, that does feel reminiscent, but the disgusting fanservice that oozes from Monogatari every 10 seconds is completely absent here, which is a huge relief.
Pros:
- Decent characters who actually develop over the course of the show, which is nice.
- Minimal romance.
- Easy to watch with a few
...
genuinely engaging moments.
- Excellent animation.
- Pretty good soundtrack.
Cons:
- Wasted dramatic potential (and more).
There are multiple moments where the drama falls flat, The most glaring example is the return of the "original" Kaede. The show spends time showing how the sister has changed, that this Kaede isn't the sweet girl we knew but someone entirely new. Then, at the end, they reveal she's no longer the bratty sister and is closer to her original self, completely undermining the emotional buildup.
A forced "happy ending" here feels fake and unnecessary.
- Tomoe's confession had me nearly pissing myself laughing.
Boom! Love at first sight, even though they barely know each other.
- Idiotic "antagonists."
These classmates feel programmed to randomly hate the main characters. Why would everyone suddenly shun you just because you didn't go out with some barely-known prick?
- Convenient plot armor.
The protagonist literally makes Mai visible to everyone again through *the power of love.*
- Predictable twists.
If you've seen *Erased*, you'll know exactly what I mean.
- Gets boring after the halfway point.
This isn't some outstanding cartoon by any means, but it's worth a casual watch.

Pros:
- The main character is GAR—meaning he's a determined, charismatic, and intelligent guy with a sense of humor. He's not omnipotent (he can't crush tanks with his bare hands), but he captivates with his charisma and determination. However, he's held back by plot armor, like a random rock on his neck protecting him from a fatal blow (LOL, WHAT?).
- Unusual premise.
The world turns to stone, and 3,700 years later, the first lucky survivors break free—only to find civilization completely gone.
- Presentation.
The anime explains scientific facts in an entertaining way, making it feel like watching a Japanese Bear Grylls.
-
...
Music that fits the vibe.
Despite being somewhat generic, it's memorable.
- Development of side characters.
At first, you see Chrome and think, “What an idiot.” Ten episodes later, he grows on you.
By the way, you might think that big idiot (Magma) is just a completely one-dimensional jerk? But nope, he’s developed into something less awful than he first appears. Sure, he stays a tsundere, but he’s not as much of a jerk as he seemed at the start.
- Art.
The animation is stable, with minimal dips in quality. The only issue is the weirdly drawn eyes on female characters. The cracks on the stone-turned people’s faces look cool, though.
Cons:
- The Scale of the Protagonist's Plans.
He wants to save THE ENTIRE WORLD, just like every other school-grade shonen protagonist.
- Doubtful success rate of his projects.
How did he even calculate the exact dose of antibiotics? There are moments like this throughout the anime.
- The villain.
A complete idiot who wants to plunge the world into filth, disease, syphilis, and death. His motivation is dumb—there’s nothing else to say. Also, they could’ve just poisoned him when he first revealed his stupid intentions.
- Deus ex machina plot armor.
A literal rock saves Senku’s life.
Now I finally understand why the anime is called *Doctor Stone*—it's named after the plot device that saved him.
- Pointless filler.
For three episodes, they explain how a village was founded—completely unnecessary backstory for characters we see for maybe two minutes in a 24-episode season. Honestly, the village should’ve died out due to inbreeding, considering how ancient Egypt turned out from all those royal family orgies.
- Fantasy.
They talk about science, but then some dude straight-up kills a lion with his bare hands. Is this an homage to Hercules? So yeah, don’t expect realism.
I might have forgotten something, but overall, season one is solid—7/10. Don’t watch it if you expect realism; that much was clear from episode one.

Plot:
- Disgusting "Naruto-therapy" from the MC.
- Outright repulsive moments. I'll even name the episodes so you don't have to suffer: 15-17 and 20-24. Don't watch this garbage. I might have missed some similar episodes, so don't blame me for that.
- Overall, nothing special, just a typical shounen.
Characters:
- Terrible. The only ones that seem okay are the guy who ran away from the store, and Accelerator. The rest are lame, though even the two I mentioned aren’t fleshed out enough.
Music:
- Not bad.
...
Art:
- Everything looks fine, but the golem scenes are unsettling.
Cons:
- Too much fanservice.
- Overused jokes. Index bit the MC 1,000,000 times, the first time was *unexpected*, so the joke kinda worked, but after that, the author assumes the audience has Alzheimer and shamelessly milks it, leading to an overwhelming sense of annoyance and PTSD.
- They say that "the hand attracts misfortune," but that’s not true, Bondarchuk’s Chekhov's gun is right in front of you.
Additional Pros:
I liked the VA of the retard (Accelerator). He slashes girls and goes nuts, basically, the voice actor put in real effort. A definite plus, because the voice acting really carries the otherwise dull experience.
Verdict:
If you cut out all the unnecessary stuff, you can watch this anime with one eye open. There’s nothing groundbreaking here, but if you remove the filler and boring garbage, I think it’d be alright. So, 6/10 for this season. Probably won’t watch the others.

Black Lagoon (The Story of Stray Bullets: Disaster Edition)
This anime is nothing more than an illogical and stupid soap opera. The main absurdity lies in the fact that our protagonists are constantly blessed by deus ex machina, they can't be injured, crippled, killed, and so on.
I want to give special attention to the action scenes, which some people below are praising, don’t listen to them, this is pure Bollywood crap.
Bollywood Moments:
- Shooting down helicopters with torpedoes.
- An unkillable Terminator maid who looks like she escaped from *Naruto*, this character jumps around like an antelope, yet bullets and grenades do nothing to her. It's all overly
...
dramatic and absurd, and then it turns out she's just a regular human. Logic has gone on a bender.
- The antagonists are complete idiots. The story is filled with mentally challenged gangsters who surround the protagonists and start shooting at them, only to end up killing each other. Apparently, no one told them about friendly fire.
This happens when the main characters escape on a yacht, the gangsters surround them, and then a massive team-kill brawl erupts.
Another example is with the Nazis, who corner the main characters on a ship, yet stand in a way that ensures they shoot each other in the head. These antagonists are like a kindergarten-level joke, zero organization. There’s also a clown who was showing off his gun and ended up catching a bullet like an idiot. Oh, and the gangsters have the aim of stormtroopers, they can't hit a damn thing.
- Rebecca is infuriating. Not only is she walking fanservice, but she’s also an annoying brat who acts like a lowlife thug. She could stand next to Asuka in terms of being mentally unstable. And of course, there's a heap of cringy edginess with her "bloodlust", frickin werewolf.
- Almost everyone except the main characters dies. As mentioned earlier, divine intervention is in full effect. Even AoT doesn’t pull this crap… Damn, I just complimented AoT.
Pros:
- Dutch and Benny are far more interesting and charismatic than the main characters, but unfortunately, they don’t get enough screen time. We mostly have to follow the adventures of Rebecca and Rock. Their occasional appearances are a relief.
- The soundtrack is decent.
- The animation is solid, no wonky faces detected.
Verdict:
A mediocre, over-the-top action series on the level of a Bollywood flick, with logic comparable to *The Hunger Games.* If you want to watch dynamic fights or something similar, go for *Fate* (Ufotable adaptations) or the *Hellsing* OVA by Madhouse, those have not just better action but even more logic.
5/10.

Throughout the entire second part, I felt as if the director was trying to force-feed me some incomprehensible mush, and in the end, I had to consult the light novel readers to understand what was going on. My frustrations, detailed below, practically set my nerves ablaze.
What felt off:
- Subaru and the Unseen Hand:
The Unseen Hand appears for him in a situation that don’t threaten his life. When a demon beast or Garfiel wants to shred him to pieces, he doesn’t use it. But suddenly, when there’s no immediate life-threatening danger (like striking Garfiel when he’s no longer a
...
threat), he decides to use it, complete with a dramatic face, as if to make viewers think, “Wow, that’s so cool, I didn’t see that twist coming.”
It reminded me of this meme about Goku and Donald Duck:
- There's way too much pomp around Elsa.
- They cut off the storyline with Echidna and the warlock. It's a bit disappointing.
- Terrible CGI. The rabbits were horrifying in their 3D rendering and gave me emotional scars just looking at them.
---
What’s still decent:
- Setting. The world-building remains interesting. Despite its naivety and flaws, the story isn’t boring, which is a plus.
- The voice actors did a good job. For instance, Roswaal’s VA and several others were standouts, especially during Emilia’s trial scenes.
- Subaru’s New Design. Finally, he gets a wardrobe upgrade! I was so tired of his tracksuit, it didn’t fit the setting at all. Now, with his new look, he’s a proper heartthrob, at least in terms of design.
It’s worth a watch, but with tempered expectations.

Let me summarize my thoughts on the cash cow proudly named "Ryukishiverse".
You should watch this adaptation if:
- You enjoy seeing your favorite stories *reimagined* and ultimately turned into garbage.
- You love contrived conflicts.
- You enjoy killing realism in the mystery aspect.
- You appreciate a lack of logic and motivation.
- You’re a fan of falling chandeliers.
- You love watching your favorite characters devolve or turn into complete jerks.
...
About Satoko:
Satoko has a "genius" motivation, and she spends hundreds of years watching fragments, casually dropping chandeliers, sneaking out of her dorm under cameras, and essentially pulling a night shift as Bob the Builder at St. Lucia's. Oh, and Featherine gave her King Crimson powers. It doesn’t hurt her to commit questionable acts, and she even gets a whole episode dedicated to her ridiculous suicides!
About Keiichi:
Keiichi was turned into an idiot who can’t tell the difference between a ladle and a spoon. Apparently, he’s now against cheating (even though he constantly cheated in games throughout the original). Thanks, got it. Also, he headbutts a metal gate and gushes like a massive ketchup bottle stabbed with a knife. Episode 4 covers this spectacle perfectly.
About Rena:
Rena has been relegated to a background character. Her screen time is less than that of a chair Rika used to beat Satoko in Saikoroshi.
About Oishi:
The issue here isn't with the top-tier waifu of the series, but rather with a gaping plot hole: Oishi shows up at the festival just to get a dose of H-173 from Satoko (hilarious, right? I can just imagine Ryukishi scrambling to explain why Satoko injects people unnoticed, yet instead of attacking her, they rage at Rika. What a joke.) Oh, wait, he explained it with Featherine. Expect her to patch every plot hole moving forward! Enjoy the episode where Oishi has infinite ammo, a goat-like neck, and heaps of JoJo-style flair.
About Satoshi:
Satoshi has been forgotten by the author, and Satoko only "finds" him when her fingerprint scanner magic activates. Deus Ex Featherine has gone wild, justifying every idiocy and change with her intervention.
About Teppei:
A completely negative character is suddenly made a sweetheart. Hello? He’s supposed to be entirely negative character, but a tiny flashback redeems him instantly? Of course, it’s explained away as Featherine randomly influencing the world.
- If you love watching sequels destroy the values and essence of the original, this adaptation is for you.
The Original's Themes and issues raised:
- Arc 1: Hiding information from a friend caused distrust and tragic outcomes.
Lesson: Don’t hide things from your friends that they might discover later, or they’ll be angry. Trust your loved ones.
- Arcs 2 & 5: Jealousy, broken promises, and neglecting Shion’s feelings.
Lesson: Trust those close to you, don’t envy others, and keep promises you make. Don’t abandon your loved ones.
- Arc 3: Resorting to murder instead of peaceful solutions.
Lesson: Don’t grab a knife when the issue can be resolved without bloodshed.
- Arc 6: Distrust among friends and blind trust in strangers led to disaster.
Lesson: Trust your friends more than strangers who feed you lies.
- Arc 7: Lack of unity to achieve a common goal.
Lesson: Strengthen old bonds to overcome challenges that can’t be tackled alone.
The Sequel’s Themes:
- Kill your friends because they’ll betray you.
- Crush the desires of your loved ones and think only of yourself.
- Ignore the suffering of those close to you.
I won’t keep listing them, but trust me, there’s a lot more.
A word about Rika's memory flashback:
- Satoko opts to watch Rika’s century-long memories, and we get a scene where the village is poisoned, and for some reason, a corpse truck is parked at the clinic while bodies are carried out of it. How did they get there? In the original, people were poisoned in the forest or storage-like buildings, and soldiers carried the bodies. And why are there bodies without bags? Does Tokyo want to make its enemies look even worse politically? Whatever.
As for the plot, there’s nothing to say.
I adore the When They Cry universe. I’ve read Higurashi and Umineko, read the manga, and watched the anime adaptations. While mediocre, they at least succeeded in some areas. Gou only stands out graphically compared to Studio DEEN’s 2006 adaptation. This treatment of sequels is unacceptable.

Zankyou no Terror (A Parable About Kind Terrorists)
The overhyped and overly praised anime has been watched, so let’s get to the point.
This anime had potential, but it was skillfully wasted thanks to ridiculous logical flaws. The original idea was shoved aside and forgotten, leaving everyone oddly satisfied with the result.
Characters:
Our protagonists are two "Sphinxes" who had a rough experimental childhood and a girl whom these kind terrorists decided not to kill. Fun fact: no one dies from their terror attacks at all. There’s no character development, just sob stories about a tough and tragic past that no
...
one really cares about.
The much-lauded thriller ends up being trash because the protagonists face off against a cardboard cutout instead of a charismatic detective with strong motivation to catch the terrorists.
Plot:
The absurdity is off the charts. The main heroine jumps onto a moving motorcycle from the fourth floor without a scratch. The not-so-bright but oh-so-kind Sphinxes can’t hack the airport monitors to warn about a planted bomb, so they march straight in instead.
Judging by their attacks, people definitely would have died, especially from the last one, which knocked out all the electricity in Japan.
Music:
The music is good, but there isn’t enough of it.
Animation:
The animation quality is excellent, with plenty of frames per second, but it doesn’t save the anime.
Final Thoughts:
The anime has its good moments, but the ratio of good to bad leans heavily toward garbage.
If you hate neglected character development, overused cardboard side characters, and mind-numbing stupidity that makes you want to end it all, do yourself a favor and don’t watch this.

Durarara!! (Part-Time Ghost Rider)
If you watch it all at once, boredom might kill you, but if you stretch it over two months, it’s tolerable. I cringed at the romance as usual, a classic, it annoyed me even more than the over-the-top drama.
Characters:
Not all of them are terrible, but there are definitely some who are. Take your Izaya Orihara, for example, he spends his time stirring up trouble and then chilling like this:
Many will claim he was trying to bring the head to life, but do you want to remember *how* he tried? That’s right, he leaned on mythology, which is just a fancy way of
...
saying fairy tales. LMAO.
That said, there are fun characters that keep things lively. Too bad Erika and Walker didn’t get more screen time, their antics are solid gold. I loved their group dynamic, unlike Celty and the Surgeon, who only spew romantic nonsense for virgin romantics. Mikado? Not a fan. He’s your typical bland protagonist, which is a no-go. His friend, though, is much more interesting.
8/10.
Plot:
It drags like chewing gum and crawls like a zombie. The plot hinges, as you’ll later realize, on secrets that friends keep from one another.
Sometimes, they’ll replay the same scene, and you’ll sit there in shock thinking, *Did I just get dragged into another fragment of this mess to watch the same thing from another perspective?* TIME TRAVEL TIME, OKARIN, Rika!!!
Dump all the unnecessary romance between the Doctor and Celty, and it would be fine. Also, tone down the overdone drama with “I'm a tough guy don’t underestimate me! AAAAH, I’ll stab you!” Overall, 6/10.
Music:
Decent soundtrack, fitting for the scenes, and it keeps up the atmosphere. Not much else to say here.
8/10.
Art Style:
The art style, especially shading out background characters, is a nice touch. The character designs are solid and don’t embarrass themselves, except for Ryugamine. The proportions sometimes get weird, and Ryugamine’s face occasionally looks off, as if the artists purposely botched it out of spite for bland protagonists. No other characters seemed to suffer from such wild inconsistencies.
7/10.
Overall Impression:
7/10. The show isn’t trash, but it’s not a masterpiece either, just average. Don’t even think about watching this in one sitting, or you’ll die of boredom.
P.S. There are so many references in here you’ll lose count on your fingers.

I’ve watched both adaptations of the Hellsing manga.
First, I watched the ancient mess, which lacked any character development, engaging plot, or decent visuals. I sat there stone-faced, hoping for something miraculous to surprise me, but it never happened. The first adaptation had a few successful moments, but they were scarce. In the end, viewers were served garbage and an unfinished story.
The second adaptation is far superior to its predecessor. It includes some humor to lighten the mood, and I can’t bring myself to criticize that as a bad choice. The story is simple and predictable, but it's executed far better than the old trash. The
...
characters, compared to the mannequins from 2001, are much better developed. The visuals are stunning, and the sound design is high-quality.
Admittedly, Alucard is a bit overly dramatic, but I won’t dock points for that. Overall, compared to the first adaptation, it’s significantly better.
