I got sucked into Eureka 7 pretty quickly for a few reasons: it has a good mix of comedic value along with serious drama/romantic tension and mature action scenes. In this regard it is similar to Samurai Champloo.

However, the character development wears a bit thin over the course of 50 episodes. I think the 50 episodes were more or less necessary to cover the entire arc of the storyline but the interpersonal drama fails to evolve sufficiently.

An irksome point: This "original concept" by "bones" is, in my humble opinion, never very original at all. There are superficial storyline features, the universe in which the ... characters exist, that ARE original. But, any Evangelion fan will see right through the mask. No spoilers are to be given here, and being familiar with NGE won't give anything away, it'll just leave you with the overwhelming deja vu of: This has been done before and when it was (via NGE) it was a lot more convincing.

Overall, a good anime with an AWESOME soundtrack. It peaks in emotional value and storyline development around episode 35 and then sort of slows down for a not bad but not great ending.
