I got sucked into Eureka 7 pretty quickly for a few reasons: it has a good mix of comedic value along with serious drama/romantic tension and mature action scenes. In this regard it is similar to Samurai Champloo.
However, the character development wears a bit thin over the course of 50 episodes. I think the 50 episodes were more or less necessary to cover the entire arc of the storyline but the interpersonal drama fails to evolve sufficiently.
