Why would you send your mecha pilot woken up from a long ago past to high school? Why wouldn't you teach the new co-pilot actual piloting skills? Why didn't Yukino ever 'read the manual'? Why mix inane slice of life with mecha. It threw the pacing off horribly.
I am totally okay with the mechs from outer space and time traveling samurai, but the fact that nobody actually questioned him about his past or the mecha or ANYTHING until the interrogators showed up just completely confused me.
And Yukino is an embarrassment to all women everywhere. She's very much a whiny YA

What was the point of this Epilogue? Lets toss around a few scenes of characters standing in the rain on a roadside and listen to one of them talk for a half hour about deep deep things (tm) like PHILOSOPHY and EXISTENCE and WHO ONE IS.
I really really wonder why this episode was rated so high. Maybe people were afraid that if they didn't rate such DEEP THOUGHTS high, others would find them dull. DEEP THOUGHT equals not enjoyable anime. DEEP THOUGHTS + PLOT can equal enjoyable anime. Plot, plot, where are you? Jul 29, 2010
This anime had a lot of interesting potential that I think they totally let sink. And the main character, Chizuru, is too annoyingly useless. I can't stand a useless female lead who needs protecting by the men all the time. Especially if she's trying to pass as a man.
Anyway, lots of pretty boys, interesting fight scenes, but it could have been so much more if they'd followed through with more plot and character development on the lead. Apr 5, 2010

First, I really enjoyed the OVA. I think that had me in a certain mindset when I picked up the manga to read.
I was generally disappointed by the manga for a few things: 1) It was confusing. The flow from panel to panel was not smooth, especially the action scenes (See #3). 2) I couldn't tell who was talking. The speech bubbles often didn't have the little tag to show who was talking. Sometimes it seemed that someone in an entirely different panel was talking, but I had no direction as to who was talking. 3) The action scenes were confusing. ... Apr 13, 2009

The second to the last episode, I cried. You know, if something gets me that emotionally invested, it always inches up the scale a point or two.
Plot - The plot wasn't anything new. It was a protector plot. Balsa has to protect the prince. Bad guys come after them. However, there is a twist, and perhaps the bad guys aren't so bad. Perhaps there is more to this possession. The plot was not linear, there were layers and twists, though not that intricate, but they added great depth to the show. I wasn't bored. Animation - ... I won't go into the subject/plot of this manga, because you can find that anywhere. This story is brilliant and full of mystery with bad guys turning good guys and good guys sitting on the ambiguous side of the field. Intrigue! If you like intrigue, you will like this story. You care about the characters, good and bad, and yell about the injustices as you cheer on their achievements. Story aside, it is damned beautiful. The art, poses, scenes just hit you so you sit there and stare at a page for minutes not even aware of the passage
