Forget about Fairy Tail kids, Rave Master is the real deal when it comes to battle shonen. Having read over both manga several times, I can easily say that Mashima really dropped the ball with Fairy Tail and that Rave is a much better story and it stands above almost every other shonen I've read.
Now, as much I as I enjoy hyping Rave Master up, I can't deny that it's another generic and cliche shonen. It has the stereotypical characters and tropes. But what I am saying is that Rave takes these cliches and executes them in a way that is better than just

about any other shonen.
I'm sure many of you have seen have watched the watered down anime with it's watered down dub several years ago, but don't let that fool you into thinking that Rave Master isn't very good, the manga is so much better that it's ridiculous, especially considering the anime stopped before the best parts started. And if you guys think characters like the jiggle butt gang are silly, it should be known that they're only in two chapters and are later written off completely.
What makes Rave Master so great is that compared to other shonen manga, the characters in Rave Master felt a little bit more human and actually had developed personalities. I'm not saying they're NGE level deep or anything, but compared to people from One Piece or Naruto they felt a lot more realistic and less contrived at times. It often makes for great emotional scenes and the characters do have great tension with each other.
Story is pretty good for a shonen as well. At first, it just starts off as "evil empire with super powers are trying to take over the world" but it eventually evolves into something far deeper than that. The pacing for the story is also excellent, seeing as how Rave completed it's run in just under 300 chapters with several story arcs.
Fights are also pretty good too. Most characters have abilities that are similar to ones from Fairy Tail. See, in Rave, the characters have things called dark brings, which basically give them magic like abilities. Unlike in Fairy Tail though, these fights actually have a good deal of tension and suspense in them, as the heroes in Rave aren't as invincible as the ones in Fairy Tail. Not to mention Mashima is talented in drawing out fight choreography. So the battles and EVERYONE gets a real chance to shine, unlike other manga where a lot of characters are thrown away so the MC can steal the precious victory.
Now, I'm not saying the manga is flawless, the ending was rushed and I didn't particularly like the main villain. But aside from that I can't really say that I could find anything else that I didn't like about it.
Rave Master is great when you add all the parts together, it really works well as a manga. I can only feel as though Mashima didn't really take a long enough break between writing Rave and Fairy Tail to get any good ideas for it. Rave Master is actually a quality series.
Fairy Tail just feels more like a fanservice one.

Bleach is a joke of a manga with absolutely no redeeming qualities besides the fact that it is mindlessly "entertaining"
The manga is flawed in just about every way possible and its actually getting kind of pathetic to read right now.
I mean, I can't name think of a positive thing about it(the whole mindlessly "entertaining" is another way of calling it stupid).
The characters are generally one dimensional and receive little to no actual growth or development. There are a few characters with some depth(Byakuya for instance) but most characters are shallow and their entire character analysis can be summed up with in just a few
...
short sentences(and some a single sentence). I'm not talking about minor characters btw, I'm talking about major ones. Occasionally Kubo will attempt to give a few characters some "development" but that all resets by the beginning of the next arc.
Another problem with the characters is that Kubo has no idea how to use them. The main cast is pretty much thrown away every arc so the captains can shine. Its sad the people like Chad, Ishida, and Orihime are thrown away so quickly each and every arc. Its hard to call them "main" characters at this point. I guess this all stems from Kubo introducing WAY too many characters and not really knowing how to write a real story.
Pacing is also another gigantic problem for Bleach as well. Every chapter is filled with reaction faces and posing with very little dialogue. While almost every manga does this occasionally, Bleach does this every chapter on almost every page. In most chapters only one or two scenes occur. EVERY chapter can be fully read and comprehended in less than a minute.
Another reason that Bleach has bad pacing is due to the fact that Kubo introduces too many villains who don't matter in the end. The Espada is the prime example of this. People who kept up with Bleach for the entirety of the arrancar arc watched the heroes of Bleach fight against these guys for around 4 years or so. But in the end they really had no lasting impact on the manga at all. They didn't really cause any real story development nor did they actually have any lasting impact on the characters. If the manga took out the Hueco Mundo arc and just skipped to the war, the exact same result would occur and nothing in the manga right now would be any different. Hell even the manga indirectly tells you at one point that the Espada have no point.
And for anyone who thinks that this isn't typical for Bleach, look at the Fullbringers(most of them were pointless), and for anyone reading the current chapters, how many enemies did Kubo introduce again? They even had Ichigo fighting against this loser for 3 or so chapters and we're nowhere near close to finishing that fight. We're going to go through another 300 or so chapter arc with only 70-80 chapters that isn't pointless padding.
People complement the art, but its really not that good either. I guess the character designs aren't too bad, but that's not where the problem is. My complaint is the lack of background art. Instead of actually drawing out backgrounds, in many panels Kubo will just color in some shading or just leave it blank. The only backgrounds that exist that seem to be consistent are the sky and the clouds. It just doesn't make the manga look good.
Fights are also kind of bad. They generally consist of beamspams that do little damage and then the characters go back and forth between powerups. After that, the fights end in a single hit once character A(the victor) reaches his max power level. its a pretty predictable setup.
The plot is also fairly laughable as well. The plot is shallow and just...

The plot for Bleach completely fell apart after the Soul Society arc. At this point, all Kubo has done is introduce random enemies and make them seem important in order to make make an illusion that things happen. But everything just kind of goes back to status quo after each arc is finished and it just doesn't feel like Bleach has really accomplished anything significant.
That's just how I see this manga. The saddest part? I didn't even list all of my complaints about it.
I basically see it as SJ's version of Inuyasha, seeing as how both of them are uselessly padded for hundreds of chapters longer than they should be.

Fairy Tail is a flawed manga is many ways, and it's a bitter disappointment as it could have been so much better. It's a really generic series, with the typical FRIENDSHIP speeches and character resolve stuff, but that's really only looking at the surface as to why this manga is flawed
-------THIS REVIEW HAS SPOILERS--------------------------------------------
Story: The story for Fairy Tail is an odd one, the concept seems fairly original compared to most other shonen titles and I can actually respect that. The problem with Fairy Tail's story is the way it advances. Most of the arcs have little to nothing to do with the main plot
...
for the most part(stuff about dragons and Zeref, and now even something about the "one magic", though all 3 are related) but give out little hints and clues in the middle or end of the actual arcs as to these things. It's like One Piece in a way, where the different islands that Luffy and co. visit have little to do with the actual storyline, but Oda will drop a few hints as to why the arc relates to the actual story. Its a bad way of telling a story and sometimes a lot of arcs just feel like filler at times(even though they're not).
Art: The art in Fairy Tail starts off kind of bad, but the art starting from around chapter 70-90 gets decent and gets progressively better. Currently, the art for Fairy Tail is nothing short of great(for a weekly series), and the character designs are probably the best that I've ever seen in a manga and the fanservice is nice as well.
The background art is also pretty good as well.
Character: The characters are really inconsistent in Fairy Tail. Some of them like Erza and Juvia are really great characters, but most of the cast just feels generic and characters like them can be found in just about any shonen manga. Not to mention the fact that many characters are one dimensional and receive very little development.
Pacing: While the overall stories pacing is slow, the fact is, Fairy Tail goes through its arcs incredibly fast compared to other mangas. Most major arcs take about a year to actually get through. But in all honesty, I would say this is more of a bad thing at times rather than a good thing, seeing as how villains lack characterization, arcs feel rushed, etc. It just feels as though villains in this manga end up not being a big deal in this manga.
Suspense: Now this is Fairy Tail's weakest point. There is absolutely no suspense in this manga because we all know at the end of the day, Fairy Tail is going to win because anyone who isn't in the actual guild is a scrub and for the rare few who can fight against them get a surprise friendship punch to the face.
Arcs almost ALWAYS follow this routine once you get to a certain point.
1. Fairy Tail members are stupid and/or get caught off-guard and get stomped by the enemy
2. Fairy Tail members start to compose themselves
3. Fairy Tail members build up a win or 2 while losing another battle or two in order to make it seem as there is suspense.
4. Fairy Tail members start to go on a roll and start winning pretty much every fight.
5. An unexpected incident occurs and it makes it seem as though Fairy Tail is in danger again(it's just superficial though, as the problem is quickly resolved in 1 or 2 chapters).
6. Lead up to boss fight, which almost always ends up with Natsu punching the main villain in the face with the power of friendship.
Of course, this isn't the only reason why there is no suspense. Another reason is because almost nobody dies(I think 2 people did but they weren't really important). No seriously, how many times has Makarov nearly died only for him to completely fine a few chapters later?
He had a heart attack in that Laxus arc and he came out just fine. The Tenrou Island arc had Charle predict his death and yet Makarov was in no danger despite having a hole blown in his chest. Hell, there was even a chapter where the guy decided to "sacrifice" himself in order to save his guild, but he ended up living anyways. Not many things of real consequence seem to happen in this manga.
Now I'm saying saying that the manga isn't enjoyable to read, but there are a lot of evident flaws in this manga. It could stand to change it's formula up every once in a while and actually make Fairy Tail really fail against an opponent.

Utter garbage.
This is Twilight for older Japanese men.
It is a fantasy for many older Japanese men to live out.
First off. Araragi is a self insert character for the viewers. His appearance is generic, his personality is bland, and his entire character just screams "typical Japanese male."
Now I can say a lot more things about this subject. But I'll move on.

So exactly what type of entertainment can be derived for non-Japanese people?
Absolutely none.
The jokes are absolutely terrible and cannot be translated to an American audience very well. Proof of this is the lack of a dub for the show. Many popular Japanese shows are quick to be licensed and dubbed. But it was only recently that Bakemonogatari was licensed, and it is speculative(and unlikely) that it will get one even with the licensing.
Now I'll get to the actual animation/art of the show. At first glance, you might say "this looks beautiful!" And you're absolutely right. But as you keep watching the show, you'll realize the animators didn't actually take the time to animate the whole thing and put in slides with words.
The story in this show seems to be nearly non existent as well. But I admit, I've only seen 5 episodes. It seems the premise of the show is about a boy who was once turned into a vampire(and regaining his humanity later) helping out girls with problems that are supernatural. The show is based off of arcs where he "helps" a different girl each time, but there doesn't seem to be a focus.
The characters are the just worst I've seen in any anime.
Bakemonogatari has quite possibly the worst character in all anime/manga.
Just an awful, spiteful, vile, wretched, selfish, cowardly, ungrateful, loudmouthed, overdramatic, angst filled little ***** named Senjougahara Hitagi.
Her presence alone can kill even the best of series. Now add her to this already terrible show and you can understand what kind of a horror this show can be to watch.
5 episodes was far too much for me to watch.
This is legitimately THE worst anime I have ever seen.
