Bubble

"Belle" and "Bubble" take traditional fairy tales (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid) and make a wild contemporary spin on both the stories and characters. However, neither movie has well-developed writing, with most of their focus being their visuals. Both movies have really beautiful fantasy environments — one virtual, and one post-apocalyptic. With both female leads being singers, the movies make use of a lot of diegetic music and excel when the animation is in sync with the songs.

Bai Niao Gu
add

Relatively unknown Chinese animations with similarly styled stunning painterly background art, blending together traditional Chinese aesthetics and fantasy. Wu Shan Wu Xing is action-heavy and intense with spectacular fight choreography, while Bai Niao Gu is mostly pensive and low-key while building intrigue - but the one short fight scene in Bai Niao Gu shows off its smooth stylized animation.

Specifically the Greed Island Arc of Hunter x Hunter has similar game world mechanics and character goals as the second season of Luo Xiao Hei Zhan Ji. (Unfortunately if I go into more detail it would contain spoilers for both.)

Both are re-imaginings of classic Chinese characters and stories. The lore of the characters is used and developed in creative ways to serve the plot. The main characters, Wukong and Nezha, are paired with companions who serve as character foils. Good blend of genuine story and humour. Similar animation style. Well executed magical fight scenes.

- supernatural creatures live peacefully in forests - human development destroys nature - conflict builds from smaller fights into all-out war - one main character is from the world of spirits/monsters and the other is from the human world - the two main characters are enemies at first - they slowly learn to get along and collaborate - cute little forest spirits are similar in design

The eclectic cast is lovable, no matter which side of the conflict they are on, despite constantly committing murder and torture. Even if someone is initially introduced in a negative light, they are developed until you eventually love them. The plot is constantly twisting and changing, and everyone has their own agenda. Plot threads and character arcs that initially seem unconnected are woven together, and you're always on the edge of your seat.

Id:Invaded

Both shows focus on detectives that use crime detecting technology to hunt murderers. The violence and gore of the crimes are on full display. Depictions of futuristic tech are entertaining and creative. One main character is an ex-detective that fell on the wrong side of law after a case got too personal. He now helps out his former colleagues by doing the "dirty" part of the work, despite being treated as a criminal himself. He has a rocky relationship with his former colleague/friend who leads the team of detectives. The other is a young woman who is unusually adept at mentally dealing with heinous crime. She appears naive at first but grows colder and more efficient as the show goes on. The character in Id:Invaded reveals herself to be stone cold very quickly while the character in Psycho-Pass goes through much slower growth. As the detectives goes through shorter mysteries involving different serial killers, they uncover more and more information about an elusive man who has had his hand in influencing and aiding many other serial killers. Through solving other crimes, they try to hunt down this mysterious threat.

The Fate series draws inspiration from mythology around the world while Mo Dao Zu Shi is a dive into Chinese mythology. Both series take their historical inspirations and transforms them into something exciting and explosive. Both shows are excellent stories featuring magic with a dark twist, summoning spirits, spectacular fights, large casts, complex politics, and a universe with extensive lore. Complex character relations involve alliances, betrayal, and conflicts on both small and massive scales. The art styles are both highly polished, and the animations are smooth and dynamic. The character and costume designs are detailed and beautiful. Both shows make use of CGI to enhance the visuals in the best way, blending environments, special effects, and traditional animation gracefully.

These films explore the boundary between the human and fantasy worlds. The protagonists are young children who mature through their experiences within the other world after receiving the help of magical creatures. The stories focus on family (whether it's adoptive or biological), unlikely friends, and personal growth through learning. The fantastical wonder in a child's mind as s/he sees the world - that's what these films will bring back to you, regardless of what age you are now.

-Opposing groups of people with special powers. -Clueless white-haired protagonist joins forces with the supernatural, only to discover something special about himself too. -Very glossy and colourful scenery art. -Decent fight animation. -Typical anime slapstick humour. -Large casts, meaning characters don't receive much development. -No deep themes or plots, fitting for shallow entertainment.

I watched Haikyuu right after finishing Kuroko's Basketball, and I noticed a lot of similarities. An easily excitable ace and a seasoned support-role player team up. They clash at first but they soon become an unstoppable duo. The advancement of the team into various competitions - from practice matches to regional tournaments. It all happens at the same pace. The characters, plot progression, and humour all have close similarities. If you don't want to let go of Kuroko's Basketball yet, Haikyuu is a good one to shift on to. You will most likely enjoy one if you enjoyed the other.
