Made in Abyss is like no other show I've watched and season 2 carries that on with the sequel "The Golden City of the Scorching Sun". Initially I thought there is no way it would deliver a similar emotional impact like Season 1 did with Mitty and Nanachi but after seeing Episode 12 it did. The story of Irumyuii and Vueko slow-rolled and built nicely throughout the whole season where the impact-fulness could be compared to Nanachi and Mitty (which I still find to be the best part of all of MIA so far).

I don't see it being AOTY over things like Spy x family ... or Kaguya mainly because MIA is more niche and definetely not for everyone. This show at times is brutal, demented, sickening, etc. In my opinion, these things fit well inside the abyss universe. It's creative in a twisted way which I myself can definetely appreciate. Lots of anime lack creativity in many ways, MIA has no shortness of that and season 2 was no different.

Overall: 9. The quality does not drop, it is consistent to season 1 in all facets below: Story, Art, Sound, Character and Enjoyment. I give it a 9 because it slow-rolled a bit much.

Story: 9. This season is all about the 5th layer of the Abyss and some of the nuances on how certain things are there on that layer. The background story of Irubu or Irumyuii or whatever it's called was very creative and very MIA like. The creative ideas of the story and the reasonings behind certain things that get introduced usually impressed me.

Art: 10. Beautiful, creative, vibrant.

Sound: 10. The sound fits perfectly. OP/ED and all the music throughout the episodes. Some of the episodes that ended and transitioned into the ED legitimately gave me goosebumps.

Character: 9. Again, aligns well with the S1 standards. Faputa/Vueko/Wazukyan are great characters with depth. Nanachi kind of takes a back-seat most of this arc which I found to be a bit shallow for a main, other than that 10/10.

Enjoyment: 10. I was enthralled each episode. Out of all the summer anime, this was the one I looked forward to the most each week. Mysteries and the desire to wanting to know more. That was the main drive I felt, it pulled me in each episode.

First time reviewer here and this was one hell of a 12 episode Adventure Anime. (season 2 to come) It starts slow, like most shows, and then picks up more as the adventure gets underway and personally by episode 3 I was very satisfied to have started this show.

Overall: 9. No doubt in my mind this is a series that is well-above the average quality of anime in all facets below: Story, Art, Sound, Character and Enjoyment.

Story: 9. The ... story and the world built up around it is great. There's a real sense of suspense going on in some of these moments as you follow the main cast around and their stories. The suspense, emotional moments, the unknown and the reveals really drive the whole season home when added up. The emotions are high at times and yes I did cry my eyes out at the last part regarding a certain someone's backstory. Beautiful and sad (a rare thing in most anime I've watched).

Art: 10. It's beautiful.

Sound: 10. The soundtrack in this show is one of the best. The music ties in really well at some moments. Sound effects are good too. Voice acting sounds good.

Character: 9. The characters felt shallow at first and then before you know it you are in 20 feet deep water. As you go you really start to get a strong sense of personality and background from mostly all the characters. The main cast feel sensible and all have multiple-layers to their stories and makes you want to find out more about them as you go.

Enjoyment: 9. I binged it in one day, it leaves you wanting more. (I'm sure I would enjoy it week-to-week as well) It's just a really good adventure anime with great emotion, suspense, world building, sound, art, pacing and much more!
