I was really excited when I saw another vampire anime coming out this year, and with such a unique theme and source as well! At first, it sounded really cool, and I had some expectations, even if the show was going to be a month late due to production problems. It can happen to everyone, right? That didn't bother me, however, as the episodes went on, things kept on disapointing me more and more.
First point I want to say is the animation. No, I wasn't expecting something amazing, extraordinary, but it didn't even do the bare minimun for a action anime. The art style
...
is nice, but it doesn't hide the bad animation. The choreography for the fights, the angles, it all looks very low effort. But, again, animation itself isn't a major problem, and can be overcomed with a good story, which is the second point.
While telling a story, you need to make the viewers care for the characters, and understand why they are doing what they are doing. For Delico's Nursery tho, all the main characters are dense. It's hard to care for them if we don't know their motivations, their goals, why they are doing the things they are doing now. Not necessarily a whole backstory from all of them, but at least to know how they got where they are right now. The lack of information is also a huge problem, and I'm still trying to figure out what is the Cocoon Phase they keep on talking about. Is it like a purperty with powers? Also, we only find out that they have special powers at the last few episodes, out of nowhere.
I also need to talk about the kids. It feels like every single person that worked on this project have never seen a child before, and really don't know how kids work or deal with the world. One perfect exemple is when most of the kids in the show are kidnapped by the bad guys after a fight. They saw the fight, they understand what good and bad means by that point, and to then they just playing with the villains as if nothing happened? That's unnatural, kids are not that dense. They understand danger, they can sense when someone is bad, especially if they see that particular person fighting your father! That part was just so ridiculous that I couldn't believe that someone could actually believe a kid would behave that way after being kidnapped. That's not how it works.
It also bothers me how they couldn't make it any more obvious who is the True of Vamp. The first time he showed up I thought "it's him, isn't it?". If it was supposed to be a mystery, it failled.
I don't even need to say about the villains. We only get why one of them is there, now, the rest? Makes no sense at all. Again, we have no idea about who most of them are, how they ended up there and just why. Feels like a lot of loose ends and the writters just don't even bother to create solutions to that.
It is a shame that this anime had potential and was wasted like this.
