Since everyone seems to be spouting shitty takes while using their LGBT status to validate said shitty takes, I will be using my LGBT card to also say that this anime is actually really great.
First of all, the characters are all adults, which renders them relatable to me as an adult. Next, the dialogue these characters have, their relationships and how close they get, and how they talk about their problems and issues, etc etc -- they all have a more complex feel to it than your average stories -- ad this is coming from a person who lloooves simple highschool manga or sappy
...
romance. It is truly a gem among pebbles. The diversity of the characters also made this anime 1000x more interesting.
Second of all, the art was really gorgeous even if it lacked budget at some points. The visuals really helped transport me into the scene, and the skating routines were just gorgeous! What was more beautiful to me though is the sound ad music; the voice acting was very expressive and conveyed emotions the way it should (but this is to be expected because the seiyuus are talented).
Last: is it perfect? Hell no. Is it a refreshing anime though that is definitely different than other stuff? 100%! I think over the course of 4 years, it blew in popularity which meant that more and more people watched it with bloated expectations, or they started it while expecting to hate it because of its popularity, and they tried to find reasons to dislike it. Either way, if it didn't click with you then it didn't click, there isn't anything wrong with that. It's ok to dislike something that is loved by others.
On the other hand, it is downright pathetic when a person tries to justify their shitty takes by accusing it of queerbaiting and being overrated. No, seriously, if you watched Yuri On Ice!!! and saw [redacted], [redacted] and [redacted] scenes as queerbaiting, then you must be a special type of retard, and that would be impressive.

This is the best hentai I've ever read.
As a story, just like any hentai, the plot is silly and is anything but deep. But there is something that really makes you love it.
Story: 8/10
It is a hentai, so we can't expect a deep, well made story, but for a hentai the story was enjoyable, and the sex had a good story.
Art: 10/10
It wasn't disgusting. The mangaka paid attention towards the guys, so I was very satisfied with the males. The girls weren't disgustingly drawn, so I was able to read it.
Character: 7/10
The characters at least had personalities, and you rarely see that in a hentai.
...
The girls weren't treated like objects, and they had their own stories as well.
Enjoyment: 10/10
It was very enjoyable. The was everything was told didn't seem too fake. The story is absurd of course, but the way it was written, you can surely get off from it and enjoy it. Nothing too serious, but it wasn't too fake and silly to the point where you simply can't masturbate to it.
Overall: 10/10
This is a hentai recommended for girls. IT is rare for me to enjoy a hentai because they are all directed to guys, and all the girls are disgustingly drawn while they didn't pay attention to the guys, so this is one of the rare non-yaoi hentai that actually satisfied me.
TL;DR: Recommended for females because the girls aren't disgustingly drawn and the guys are drawn in a nice way for girls to enjoy. Sexy.

I gave everything a 10/10 except for the art which got 7/10.
Anyway, where should I start?
This is a masterpiece, and I will tell you why:
Story: 10/10
Genius. He thought it all up. The world of HXH, when we think of it, makes you realize many things about our own world, and makes you question many of our morals and mentalities. This masterpiece was elegantly written, no fillers, and every action counts. Realistic reactions to many events. this manga leaves you in a wreck of emotions: there are funny moments, there are heartwarming moment, an then there are those very dark moments when you least expect them.
...
The plot devices were very well put and they weren't 'just there'.
The problem with the manga are the long hiatus, but even though we can never deny this awesome manga.
Art: 7/10 (the first 4 arcs), 6.5/10 (the greed island arc) , 3/10 (the chimera ant arc), then back to 7/10 at the last arc:
The art at first was decent, but then it turned appalling. The story made up for the art, because nobody would want to miss such a genius story no matter what.
Character: 12/10
Gon: He isn't the typical protagonist who had a tragic backstory but then wants to pursue his goal to prove something. He is a curious kid that was abandoned by his father, which leads to him questioning what is so great about being a hunter, and this is his goal: wanting to know the charm of being a hunter. His character seems to be simple at first, but read it carefully, and you will know he isn't the typical "simple naive kid who helps everybody because he is a good kid who believes we need to help others". True, he has great personality, but he's also very veeery flawed.
Killua: Tragic backstory, but as you get to know him, he's not what he seems. I can't say anything or I will spoil the fun of finding out.
Kurapika: He has the typical tragic-hero backstory, but he doesn't act like a typical hero. He is pursuing his goal, but- I am not gonna spoil it. I have many things to say about each character but THEY WILL BE SPOILERS!!!....
Leorio: He is the most normal of them all. His tragic backstory is something that happens everyday and can happen to any person. Also don't wanna spoil anything..
AS for the other characters, they are all a mix of people that seem unrealistic, but this is not true...You can find many of the traits of those characters in people you know, or even yourself...For example what they do, we don't really do it in real life, but if given the freedom, we will do it.
Enjoyment: 10/10
Not a moment felt too dull. The story is so well written that even with the bad art in the chimera ant arc, you still want to read it. The way every character and every event is portrayed, makes you look back and think about many things. I loved and enjoyed this manga so much.
Overall: 10/10
The art was decent at first, but he needs to hire an assistance, because of the reason that he does all the art himself, he can't finish on the deadline and the quality of his art drops so fast in the 6th arc...Anyway this is not the point.
This manga can't deserve any lower than this. Even with the quality of art at the end, and his looooong hiatus, it can't be less than a 10.

This is a sweet Yaoi manga. It is not that realistic, it is a romance manga where the two couples love each other. The drama and romance isn't too exaggerated, but enough to make your heart beat fast.
Story: 6\10
It is a simple yaoi story, it wasn't trying to portray a real-life issue, nor was it trying to show the author's philosophical ideas. It was something sweet and simple that would force annoying inhuman sounds to escape your mouth.
BUT! It was very sweet, and I liked how the mangaka didn't try too hard to make complicated stories by adding unnecessary drama. The romance wasn't that
...
unrealistic, too. The way everything was handled, very sweet and nice.
The story was believable enough to make me happy. They didn't look at each other and BAM they're in love.
ALSO! (And this is an important point) no noncon. No harassment, and no rape or molesting.
Art: 6\10
I don't know if this art may appeal to some, but it wasn't that great or elegant. It was good enough to make me continue reading, though. Oh, and did I mention there are few delicious SEX SCENES? They were good enough to make me pop a ladyboner about five times.
The dialogue felt very natural to me, and it wasn't too forced.
Character: 7/10:
The characters were simple, nothing too unrealistic.
But there is something that I LOVED about them!
They weren't the typical "naive, cute Uke, dominant Seme that always wear a smirk". They both had personalities and they were believable. They would blush next to the other, and I thought they were so cute together that made me want to scream "KYAAA" every.god.damn.second.
Enjoyment: 10/10
I enjoyed it so much. I am a sucker for awkward romance between 2 people (straight or gay romance doesn't matter), with them blushing next to each other.
I LOVED this manga.
Overall: 7/10
This was a really sweet, heartwarming romance and I loved it with all my heart. Deserves a soild 7/10. Would have given it more if it started with them meeting each other.

Story: 10\10
I love how the plot and story is simple. It follows the life of a school girl, Sawako, who is shy and misunderstood. Despite her scary looks, she has a really pure heart and she's very innocent and pure. The pace is very slow, but in no way is it dull. The girl is going through changes, so naturally, to change, it takes you time. changing can't just happen with the blink of an eye, and this is why I loved this anime so much. The pace was perfect to make me understand every part of the story.
And can I add how much I
...
loved the fact that it wasn't cliche in any way? Abuse and violence wasn't romanticized and the main character didn't get harassed by the guy of her dream and then called him "BAKA\HENTAI"!!!. I can say that this was a first for me in anime. And the time where there were bullies, they were teasing a certain character, and the bullies were considered pathetic and they were the ones who were losers.
Art: 7\10
I thought the art was good. It wasn't the best, but it certainly was good and well drawn. Something that annoyed me a little is that I wasn't able to know if some characters were goodlooking or not since they were all drawn in an appealing way. Other than that, the art was cute and the eyes weren't exaggerated, which is something that I found beautiful.
Sound: 10\10
I loved the opening theme and ending theme so much! They really set the mood and the lyrics were quiet good. The opening theme will always touch my heart. As for the voice actors, they were very good in conveying the emotions of the characters, and I didn't find any of them to be annoying haha. There was no "overly cute anime voice" that made you think one of the characters was 4 years old. I really liked the voices.
Character: 10\10
Oh man, I don't know where to start! Each character has its own personality and all the characters have their flaws and imperfections.
Kazehaya, the main guy, isn't this typical anime guy. He is not a hot perverted who falls head over heels for the girl and teases her a lot and plays with her emotions. Nor does he sexually harass her. He is in fact as shy as she is! He blushes and he has many flaws that we later find out as we get deeper in the story.
The beautiful thing about those characters is that they are realistic and there was no exaggeration in their personalities. They all have their flaws and imperfections. Even the bad guys aren't 100% bad. Also, we were able to see a reason for the actions of all the character; (they did this when that happened which means they have this trait, and their personality is like that).
Enjoyment: 10\10
As I said, in no way was the story dull, and there was always something happening, from a quirky, funny thing that somebody did, to a line or an action that a character said or did which will break your heart and makes your stomach hurt.
Overall: 10\10
This is a masterpiece. I have never ever seen anything like that. It was in all means beautiful.
I say there should be season 3, since the story is not over yet. If you ever end with the anime, I say you continue with the manga because more things happen that make you understand the characters even more and love them even harder.
The manga is as beautiful as the anime, and the anime was pretty faithful to the manga except for the last episode of season 2, which was a bit different. If you don't want to miss anything, just read the chapter of the final episode.
Anyway, this is one of the best things I have ever seen and I will always love this anime\manga.

NO SPOILERS!
Characters 8\10
I would first love to talk about fanservice:
Free! is highly criticized because of the fanservice, but I don't understand why.
The characters are hot. Yes this is true. They have muscles, but in no way did I feel that they had no personality. Let's start with Haru:
Haru is antisocial and a quirky guy whose only concern is swimming. He doesn't enjoy doing things that take too much effort.
He likes to do as he pleases. At first glance it doesn't seem like it, but he does in fact cares about his friends. I would like to discuss his character more but it will be filled
...
with spoilers. You might feel like he got it all figured out, but actually, he is not so sure anymore, which makes him very confused.
Rin: more about him in second season, too. Anyway, he moved to Australia to learn swimming professionally, only to come back four years later. He changed, he is not this cheerful and bold as he was as a kid and he is aggressive and brutal. We later discover why he changed and turned out to be like this and we do feel it is only natural for him to feel that way.
Nagisa: He seems harmless at first glance, but he actually would go very far into getting what he wants. He can be annoying at times and manipulative, but he does have good intentions and he deeply cares for his friends.
Makoto: oooh where should i start? He is a goodhearted kid who cares deeply for his friends and always takes care of Haru.
He is able to be manipulative but he doesn't really have bad intentions. He doesn't mind showing his fears. He cares deeply for Haru and he gets worried about him easily. He sacrifices for his friend.
Rei: You think he is a brutal and clever guy. He is very clever when it comes to logic and he is a genius when it comes to calculating things, but it seems that he can be easily manipulated. He is not stupid, he is simply naive. He doesn't like anything that isn't beautiful.
Nitori: He is a sweetheart. He seems to care for Rin, but he isn't able to figure him out. He lacks self confidence, but he can be determined. More about him in the second season.
This is it for the main characters.
Art: 10\10
The art was beautiful. I am not simply talking about the characters; the water. Do you know how hard it is to draw water and make it believable? Also, the character design was really good; their bodies fit perfectly with the type of strokes they do. Also, their expressions were very believable and made you understand what they were thinking.
Sound: 8\10:
The voice actors were really good! They were able to convey the emotions of the characters. I thought that the music was good as well to set the mood, but sometimes I felt like it didn't always need to have a background music.
Story: 8\10
The story was enjoyable and cute and the plot was well written. It is simple and not too complicated, but the reason why i thought it was very good was because of how well it went with the characters and I believe that, with their personalities, their ways of acting were very believable.
Enjoyment: 10\10:
There was never a moment where I was bored, I laughed my ass off a lot and at the same time I felt so sad and was left with SO many feels. The last episode, I was laughing and punching a pillow and I had so many feels!!! It got even better in the second season.
Overall: 9\10
Its simple plot and believable characters were mixed with appealing arts and beautiful sounds, and mixing drama and comedy, the anime was in the end very good and I can say that it motivated me to do few things I have been delaying, after watching them working hard and triumphing.
I highly recommend this anime. Heck, this anime is the reason why I watched 10 other anime just to shake off this empty feeling after it all ended!
