Well, this was a long one shot, it could've easily been a few chapters long.
This story brings such an interesting idea and the art itself is very nice!
The characters are mainly very strange, in a way, but that's what brings this story together. It's interesting that the majority of the things we, as readers, see is the camera footage, it's a fun concept and the plot twistS (plural!) it brings are scaaary. I feel like one of the purposes could be to show the idealization in movies, or just idealization that comes after person's death.
It's a story about death, loss, tragedy, but also a
...
story about rekationships with people, forgiving, remembering, living and loving.
After reading you are left with so many questions and very little answers, but it's awesome, you come to really appreciate this piece of art.

I gave it an 8 to be realistic, but this was one of my comfort mangas which I was reading as it was coming out so I appreciate it so much!
It has such an interesting, even fresh story, and I'd say it's more between shoujo and josei than strictly shoujo (and I really liked that!). It's got some hooottttt moments but everything is within the bounds of subtlety and decency.
The idea of a person transforming into a cat with kisses reminds me of Tokyo Mew Mew, even though I don't know where the idea actually originated from, I am just sharing my observation. The
...
readers can find this idea for a story either weird or amusing, but, personally, I was really torn between those two. However, the characters won me over with their sweet relationship and everyday life.
This isn't one of the best stories I've ever read, it really isn't, but I think you can find comfort in it and it is a page turner, it's sweet, relatively short, lively, it gives you butterflies, it's overall very nice and you get good looking characters.
(One weird thing I came across is the appearance of that girl that's supposedly mc's cousin? Idk, if anyone can explain that part I'd be grateful, I don't wanna spoil the manga)

Stating the obvious here but: this manga is focused on mental health, specifically adhd and autism. Every chapter presents a different story (and person).
I like the portrayal of people and their stories here, it's quite realistic. The only thing I find not to be realistic is how fast the characters manage to get a diagnosis (as shown in the comic), but I think that in all of the stories the doctor basically tells them something along the lines: "yeah, *this* is your problem, *this* is your diagnosis". I wish the author also portrayed how difficult it is to actually get a diagnosis and what
...
a troublesome ride that is. Of course, that's not the most important thing here and the author probably didn't want to focus on that but on the actual experience of a neurodivergent person living in a neurotypical society and how they manage to adapt to it.
This topic is very important and I'm so glad to see that there is even a manga about this subject!
The reason why it's not so attractive or particularly interesting to read is probably because there is a lot of text and not so much descriptive imagery and by that I don't mean that there is too much text, I just wish we ge to see more things instead of having everything explicitly said. I might sound crazy now so keep in mind that this is a very subjective opinion!

TW: rape, graphic content, suicide, blood, murder; if I actually start listing all of the TW of this story I could write only that as I review, so just saying that it does have a lot of TW and is very fucked up. Keep that in mind!
*This is gonna be a long one, I really can't help it, so i'll put some of the most important things right here:
- graphic, sexual content
- existentialism and existential crisis
- Pun pun's alienation, but also everyone else is as fcked up
- Aiko as the most important character for the story
- absolutely depressing
The thing I generally don't like about this
...
author's works is such vulgar scenes, connected to porn and sex an it's always very graphic, unnecessarily graphic and honestly that always puts me off, but the psychology of his work is such an interesting mystery. But, AGAIN, I dont see the point of such graphic and sexual content, expecially when it's related to kids/teenagers. Okay, I guess that, for some parts, author wanted it to be as gruesome as possible, but some things are too much and unnecessary to be seen.
Wasn't a fan of seeing pedophilia in action to be honest, why does every single person have to be fcked up. Any chance u get to think for someome that they are decent, they turn out to be as fucked up as everyone else. There's so many creepy people and interactions here, it's like there's not a single normal person. A lot of characters seem like actual psychopaths. I guess that the author primarily wanted to focus on showing those groups of people.
There's a lot of existentialism involved in this author's work. Almost all of the characters, especially young ones, even kids, have worries about the future, mankind, they are all swallowed up by existential thoughts and dread.
I got the idea that Pun Pun and his family are represented as little funny looking birds (despite everyone else being drawn very detailed and realistically) because, of course, of the contrast the author wanted to create but also because it would be too depressing (yes, even more) if we saw them as normal human beings - they need to be alianated. However, I am not sure how much this theory can hold up since the members of Pun pun's family are not the only ones fucked up. "If it turned out that eveyone else was an alien from another planet , Punpun would, in his current state, have no trouble believing it" - I think those words (that were in the manga) also perfectly represent how alianeted he is from everyone actually that they all seem like aliens to him. He is alienated both physically and mentally.
Quite deep in the story it starts to show that meeting Aiko, at the very beginning of the story, is a crucial part of Pun puns life and story itself, it seems that for that reason solely Pun pun had an eternal existencial crisis (however, he did have many more important reasons to have a crisis, but Aiko seems to be the trigger). I think the whole story was possible just because of Aiko, it begins with her and the ending also shows what a big role she played.
I do have a problem with this author, he always writes about children/teenagers having sex and having perverted thoughts. It's crazy. If I ever say again I want ro read SERIOUS, MATURE manga, I need to write off traumatic ones. Overall, this story made me so sad, it's so depressing. It's scary for the first half of it, then you get used to it being scary in such a way, but after that it gets so so sad. I didn't expect this ending for Pun pun, to be honest, and I am not even sure if it's a fair one.
The point I understood, at the very end, is: the history repeats itself.

✧*̥˚ 2023 review *̥˚✧
TW for future readers of manga: depression, attempted $u!c!d€, bullying
Even though those are all potentiat triggers, I personally think all those topics are very important and need to be talked about so I am very thankful and glad that manga like this one exists. It's deeply emotional, moving and serious!
There are some incredibly great and important characters in this story, but I have to mention that there are also absoultely spitefull and borderline terrible human beings included. The range of their parsonality and qualities is very well shown, also the way they are changing and growing - incredibly depicted growth of the
...
characters.
Even though some people might find a way to disagree with me, I hate Ueno and Kawai, until the end. They are both deeply disguisting characters and I understand the need for them, but I don't like how everyone had to stay friends with them despite everything, they don't deserve to have that type of happy ending. They don't deserve to be a part of this group that fights against violence. There is no actual and qualified excuse for the way they act, they are both mean for the sake of being mean or for very selfish and jealously based reasons. I don't like how others are "understanding" of them, they are just making the bllying progress and show how the it never actually ends. Ueno admits some important things, later on, and shows aspects of potential to become a better person and yes, we get a "happy ending" with both her and Kawai acting nice and friendly towards eveyone, but I don't think that, if the story was about to continue, it would last for long. They both have a fickle attitude and I don't see the actual future for their friendship with the group of others, who show actual change of the heart. That's why I like how no one says to Ueno that she is a good person, I like how conscious all of them are about that, even herself.
Isihida, as a mmc, is, obviously, the most important character here and the way his anxiety, depression and guilt are shown is borderline painful. But amazingly painful! I don't know how else to explain that. He is such an amazing and emotional character. From being a bully he becomes a people pleaser who feels guilt every time someone around him cries or fights, he always thinks it's his fault. There is a big question floating in the air: "Who ruined whose life?". It's interesting to see all of the characters tackle this problem, it's such a taboo, but we can see that it's the root problem of their friendship.
Despite being a main, lovely, character, I don't think there's much to say about Nishimiya. No matter what, we shouldn't (and can't) forget about all of the pain she's been through, even thought she personaly doesn't talk about it. It's so sad that she was so severely bullied and even later on people hated her. There's an incredible and strong connection that she and Ishida share and I love that, I wish we got to see them in the future and how their relationship deepens.
Besides depression, anxiety, guilt, hate, bullying, there's one important point that also touches a sesitive subject, that might go unnoticed: Ishida's sister and her relationship with men and the way her face is never shown. There's room for so many theories about her, but it's very interesting to notice the way she is portrayed.
This is the most emotional piece I have come across, it's very hard to face sometimes but I am so glad that it exists and that these feelings are talked about! It's appropriate for both young and adult audience.

It's quite a challenge to rank or comment on a one shot, especially since you've been reading much longer stories before and after that.
Anyway,
It seems kind of all over the place, it's just that I feel like every one shot is rushed (that is logical, but I still don't like it so I am pointing it out). I really liked that it shows boys as emotional beings who cry because, oh well, boys DO cry and they should not be asamed of it or made fun of for that. Honestly, that's the only good thing I'd like to point out about it, not really worth
...
the read (even tho you'll be done in 5-10 mins).
Also, I am not saying that it's bad, just there's absolutely nothing special about it, but it did introduce me to the "henohenomoheji"!

I feel like this story is very nice and it has a great potential to be even better. The characters are very sweet, even though there's always room for improvement. However, it's too short for this type of story. It feels like the author took the pattern of shoujo manga and just summarized it, shortened it.
It's sweet, it's nice, but I feel like it doesn't really leave a memorable impact or opinion since, unfotunately, it's very short and easy to forget.
There's no reason to not recommend this one, if you love romance manga, you are at the right place. :)

When I started reading this one, I was faced with the unnecessary and wrong insults about women. My initial thought was: "Is this a red flag?", however, I realised that it was just a part of the conversation the characters were having, they are discussing, in a way, how men and women act and their views on it, slowly understanding and learning from each other. To be precise: the mc is trying to understand girls and the fc is trying to understand boys. They definitely have more sensible and better conversations than most adults, the female lead especially, she acts very kindly and maturely towards
...
other people too and, imo, she is amazing! I am also glad to see that she always stands up for herself and always answers to Azuma's (mc) generalization of women (which he picked up from his family/friends).
All of that makes their relationship (semi)realistic and I love the way it just progresses and deepens as the chapters keep going. It's very interesting to see the change of mc's feelings.
I guess they just left me lingering for more - I wanted to see more of their relationship, of their romance, true feelings, being actually serious with each other. That's where this one falls short, for me.
I also love how everything is revolved around a novel/literature in this manga, it's imbued in whole story and the title of the manga is very fitting and nice!
However, I'd like to adress the thing I absolutely didn't like here:
It's the relationship between Azuma and his aunts (that he keeps on mentioning). It's very problematic and weird. There's even a part in chapter 23 (I think) where he remembers his childhood when one of them offered to show him her b00bs. I understand that it was supposed to be taken as a joke or just comedy, in a way, but it didn't sit right with me.

The whole manga is so wholesome and warm and the characters are all so grown up mentally and really respectful of each other. Seriously, I was amazed by that, I've never (or very rarely) encountered such characters in manga (there is always someone very stubborn, childish, rude etc). They all portray positive characteristics.
The only complaint I'd have is that I wish the romance part was a bit longer, I wish the author delved more into their relationship, or just made it longer with the focal point on their relationship. It would be nice to see more of this story, especially since it warms your

I have to say that this anime has such a nice touch of comedy to it, even when we are talking about dark humor! However, I love that it also gets serious at times, for example when they talk about personal growth, which is a very important topic for everyone, especially for the targeted audience of highchoolers. I am probably too old for this one, in that aspect, but I think anime world needed this representation.
It did make me genuenly laugh and feel warm inside.
There's nothing to not love here - it's about rock music, and a girl rock band. But it's also an important
...
representation for people with (social) anxiety; of course that some reactions are excessive, but it just serves the comic effect. I liked the way they depict the mental state of an anxious person, I think the author did the best they could with what they've got! They made it perfectly align with the story without disrupting the importance of each other. Also, the breaking of the 4th wall is so spontaneous and well done!
The only reason why this story didn't get a perfect 10 from me is solely based on the fact that I like deeper and more complex stories and characters (just a personal preference) . Of course, the author had a good basis to implement such a story here too, but I don't think there's a need for one, especially since it's about very young people that are (maybe) at the beginning of discovering themselves and the world - it doesn't need to be any more complex than it is, it already has its own special charms.
Bocchi is a very important character for all the anxious introverts out there, especially the ones with huge passions about something, but also a fear of the world.
I'm hoping this anime gets a sequel!
