I'm admittedly not a big fan of isekai. In my opinion, a handful of shows did the concept justice, and the past decade or so of attempting to emulate their success has been a fruitless effort.

Season one of Spirit chronicles, however flawed, had a decent enough premise, as to bring forward something enjoyable, that stood out in the sea of isekai, without being ridden with gimmicks. It got me invested , and I was looking forward to a second season.

The TLDR in case you don't want to read my full list of issues:
It committed the biggest sins of writing: ignoring obvious story beats, without ...

Huge nose dive, the show is a shell of it's former self now.

Season 1 wasn't groundbreaking or anything, but it had a solid theme and hook. Although Hajime was a pretty generic edgelord, he had his priorities straight, in a way that resonated with the audience. The tough guy act was reasonable, his lack of trust and short temper were justified, and whatever cracks int he facade existed, were actually funny and made sense.

In season 1, you root for him to get strong, on his own, and find out who stabbed him in the back, all while maintaining a refreshingly straightforward relationship, and actually being ...

Spoiler free review. Overall, disappointing.

The beginning is strong, but, it goes too far into revenge p*rn territory, without any actual decent narrative payoff.
At times, the story becomes incoherent, in a rather tasteless manner, in an attempt to "gaslight" the reader into questioning how trustworthy the memories of the main character are. Either that, or there is a genuine lack of continuity.

The pacing goes out the window after the initial 5 chapters, and the artwork loses any semblance of balance. The rule of 3 isn't followed at all, and most compositions turn into jumbled messes of too much detail, that makes the action hard to read. ...

Dropped it really fast. Characters that magically get rid of the consequences of their lazy lifestyles piss me off.

Dude smelled like death, didn't take care of his body, and was very aware of it. Chose not to do a damn thing. He stumbled through the forest after he was isekai'ed, then just got lucky, and magically gained enough exp to "evolve" and burn off all the excess weight.

Didn't feel earned at all, especially after they made a point of how mistreated he was for the way he looked. Gaining a pair and becoming determined to grow and change on his own would've been better

This is utter trash. But the good kind of trash. The kind of self aware trash that knows what it is, and hits the right notes to make me excited about how much of a glorious bastard he protagonist is.

Though, since I can give this exact review to two other shows, I'm honestly keeping the score between a six and 7seven stars. It's not going to be anyone's favorite, but it's some pretty damn decent entertainment.

This last sentence is just to fill out the unnecassarry (lol, not gonna spell check this word, studied english for six years and that's six years too many, still ...

As solid of a proof I need to illustrate the fact that people overinflate their review scores.

The average for this series should be under 5, yet, most of the people who watched this believe it should be hanging out with the 8s...

Bad pacing, generic plot, and no payoff or real emotional stakes to make you satisfied with the fight scenes. Properly writing an overpowered character requires some real skill, and there was none present in the making of this.

If you can make a dude getting imploded by the heartbeat of a demon boring, you know you've done fucked up.
