Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

Hardworking main female lead? Check! Romantically dense female lead? Check! Interesting workplace setting? Check! If not for anything else in these series, Skip Beat and Maid-sama are both worth reading for their excellent female characters. Though both could do better in how they handle relationship dynamics and uh... interesting takes on the role of a lady (looking at you Maid-sama)... they're still very cute to read. Although the age gap is very suspicious in Skip Beat, the relationship itself is still one you swoon over, the same way one swoons seeing Takumi Usui's little smirk!

If you're looking for cute and small female lead, you've got it in Salty Studio and Toradora! Though the tone in both comics are a bit different, the sweet romance and empathetic characters are very fun to read.

Song of the Long March

Song of the Long March and Otoyomegatari are both iconic manga detailing the life of those who have historically lived in Central Asia. Both series take great care with how they characterize their female characters with good attention to historical context and interesting relationship exploration. Politics? Drama? Memorable side characters that leave you aching for a spin off? They both have them! The light-hearted yet serious nature of Otoyomegatari is a welcome respite after the strong emotion evoked in Song of the Long March. For those who're tired of worrying about the Russian invasion knowing how the Russian invasion historically ended and ruined the Aral Sea... well, Song of the Long March has plenty of nitty gritty and dark themes for you to angst your heart out over to forget about the unfortunate realities of colonialism. Just a bit, since colonialism is also somewhat touched on in Song of the Long March. Really, I find both series very good at giving solace about the other. I cannot highly recommend both these series enough. Strong female readers and attention to detail will appeal to female readers, the intrigue and cute relationships with cute girls definitely speak to dudes and other sapphics, and enbies can enjoy the in-depth characterization for sure. There's a little something for everyone in both series, and there's a bit of overlap in setting. My recommended reading order? Song of the Long March and then Otoyomegatari. Amir is like a healing potion for the heart.

Afterschool War Activities is beautifully emotional in the same way as Aisopos, though they take up different genres, they are both manhwa from the same era of Webtoons. They both explore human nature in very different ways and I recommend Afterschool War Activities if you enjoyed the more philosophical side of Aisopos. If you enjoyed Afterschool War Activities, the apparent serenity and more melodramatic plot of Aisopos might not immediately speak to you. It's not war-filled (at first, this is Ancient Greece though...) nor is it starkly horrifying. Still, I think Aisopos has an interesting take on humanity that Afterschool War Activities readers might appreciate, as both shed light on humanity's darker sides.

Aisopos is a story about a young boy who was taken away from his family. In this way, he starts out similarly to Sita, though they leave their families in different ways and for different reasons. Watching Aisopos grow up was just as cute as watching Sita struggle was heart-rending. If you liked the characterization in For the Sake of Sita, you may enjoy Aisopos, a well-thought out adaptation of Aesop and his fables. If you're looking for a webtoon that has a sweet transition between timelines in the way that we see adult Aisopos, child Aisopos, and Aisopos's parents then For the Sake of Sita is an awesome romance to try out! We get to watch Aisopos grow up in the same way as Sita, and both stories are heartachingly realistic. Readers of Aisopos may enjoy watching how Sita changes over time. They both examine different cultures and share similarly beautiful art of different worlds. This recommendation leans more into the romance that you find in Aisopos.

If you enjoyed Annarasumanara, you might like the beautiful art concepts within Aisopos and the compelling story. Both webtoons do an excellently heartwrenching job at depicting emotions and capturing life, though Aisopos is a bit more action filled. Aisopos quite beautifully captures the essence of Greek painting and combines it with more modern comic styles. Another webtoon in the same heartwrenching vein as Aisopos, I feel that this webtoon evoked strong emotion in a similar way. They were both enjoyable, though I must caution that Annarasumanara is also more romance centered than Aisopos, and speaks with a more abstract language at times in beautiful art panels.

Although Song of the Long March has not finished, I find that it's similar to Aisopos in it's careful exploration of another culture, and takes you back in time while keeping a sweet fantasy! Filled with scenery, plot, and romance it's like watching a Chinese historical revenge drama, except with a higher quality plot, and you're reading it. I enjoyed that they were both historical in nature. If you're looking for a finished series to help get you through the wait for our unfortunate mangaka to win her legal battle, I highly recommend Aisopos! Historical, exploration of another culture, a cute romance that subtly works its way through the story, and lovely art. Great characters, a compelling story beat... though it doesn't have the very spicy political intrigue, I'm sure you'll enjoy Aisopos' revenge. There's a lot of character to Aisopos.
