Both shows feature an old-fashioned Japanese setting combined with sci-fi technology. They're also both hero shows, featuring main characters that transform, as well as villains that have a silly/cartoony sense of humor. One focuses on a team of cats while the other focuses on Wataru & his friends, but I still get a similar feeling from both of these shows when I watch them.

Both series have a similar sense of humor, especially how the villains in both series are goofy and hard to take seriously. Both shows also have sci-fi technology despite being set in an old-fashioned town. Wataru is a bit more focused on Action and Adventure while Dr. Slump is more focused on comedy, but both series give off a very similar tone to me.

Both anime feature a female martial arts expert being trained by their grandpa, both of whom are short in stature, and a little bit perverted. The main character in each show is also reluctantly entered into martial arts tournaments by said grandpa. Both series also feature a reporter for a sports tabloid which wants to get a scoop on the main character. The art style and tone of each show are slightly different, but I feel like it's impossible to ignore the otherwise large similarities between the two.

Both shows deal with a young, female new recruit joining a special police force that has just been militarized with some new technology. In one show it's tanks, in the other, it's a mech suit. However, both shows focus around the utilization of this new technology for fighting crime. Character design and animation styles are also pretty similar.

While one is a teacher and one is a police officer, the protagonists in both of these series are roughnecks who are childish, fun-spirited, greedy, and a bit perverted... each show focuses on these characters getting involved in fun high-jinks in modern day Japan. If you like the antics in one show, you're bound to like the antics in the other.

While one series stars a native American, and the other stars a black man. Both series are stories about the main character fighting in the name of their people and getting revenge against racist white men in a wild west setting. The style of the action scenes are very similar between the two, as well, and feature lots of blood and gore.

While the setting and plot are different between the two series... Both series are quite similar in tone. The characters feel like they're written very similarly. Both Lupin and Cobra share many personality traits, and the antagonists in both series feel like they're written similarly as well. The art is pretty similar, too, with both series featuring detailed hand-painted CELs, and lots of expressive motion lines during fast-paced chase scenes. Even the soundtrack for both series are reminiscent of each other, featuring a lot of the same 70s disco undertones, and similar sounding stings and audio cues. If you like one, I would find it hard to believe that you wouldn't like the other.

Both shows center around a group of three individuals (two male, one female) who are members of a secret, powerful team that go up against an underground organization that aims to take over. The three members in both shows also wear color-coded outfits to make them stand out from one another, and both teams use legendary weapons against their foes. One of the members of each team is also a hot-headed guy who often says "teyandee!" The shows differ in that one is a comedy featuring anthropomorphic robot cats, and the other is more action-oriented and features humans, but there's too many similarities here to ignore.

Both series are adventure tales that take place primarily on the sea, travelling to different islands. They also feature a similar lead cast, with a scrappy excitable young boy, and the pensive female lead that accompanies them. There's even ship captains in both shows that aid the lead roles. There are some minor differences, but the one major difference I can see would be the animation styles... which, in both shows, are contemporary of the era they were made in.

The style of the visual directing and the soundtrack in both shows seems fairly similar, which gives the serious moments in both shows a fairly similar atmosphere. However, Trigun focuses more on comedic moments early on while Escaflowne is more consistently serious. However, both shows share similar design sensibilities for the characters, and the villains are written pretty similarly. The sci-fi elements also share similar designs, having a fairly organic and pulsating feel to them in both shows. The story and setting are different in each show, but they're similar in that they incorporate sci-fi elements into a setting which is typically devoid of sci-fi.

Both are about a boy & a girl trying to make their way to a mythical land, and going up against opposing political/governmental forces that get in their way. The leading girls in both also have something the governmental forces want to obtain to use for malicious purposes, and they chase them down and attempt to capture the girls in both because of this. Both of them feature airships, and have battles that take place in the sky. The art style is also very similar in each, which isn't surprising, considering they share the same director.

Aside from both being police shows, they also both have a similar animation style, as well as a similar comedic style. Even though one is set in the present-day and one in the future, the city has a similar visual aesthetic in both of them. The main difference is that one uses tanks, and one uses patrol cars, but there's also some similarities here, with one of the main characters in each show being the gear-head who's always tuning up their vehicle. Many of the supporting cast members also seem to have pretty similar personalities between the two shows.

Both shows take place in a futuristic apocalyptic wasteland where humans have recently started to attempt to rebuild society. The art style is somewhat similar between the shows, but "Now and Then, Here and There" has a bit more of an orange and yellow hue to it, while Mirai Shounen Conan focuses on lots of greens and blues. In both shows, the main character is a boy who is attempting to save a girl from being used by authoritative government powers against her will.
