Sword of the Stranger is a bunch of great swordfighting action scenes held together by a mediocre plot and weird/nonexistent character motivations. It feels like a Hollywood action movie in how it treats its characters and how it's paced. All the characters have unique designs and they feel like unique personalities, but (excluding the main characters) they really don't build their personalities beyond their choice of weapon and a few lines of dialogue.
The movie however excels at being entertaining. The animation was great and especially the action scenes were very well thought out. The characters jumped all over the environments and took advantage of it

The Count is 9/10 seme and Albert is a 7/10 uke, so overall it's a 8/10 show. The amount of beards might be offensive or off-putting if you prefer male characters without a beard. I give the show 8 beards out of 10. Gankutsuou has an impressive amount of amazing early 3D contraptions on par with Pixar animation. I especially liked the amazing 3D horse armour, the sun planet garnet on the counts house and also all the beautiful clocks this anime has. I'm sorry for keeping this review short, but there's not just that much to be said about .hack//The Movie. It's just a pile of wasted potential, and if this combined with .hack//Link are really supposed to be a swan song for the .hack// franchise, it really makes me sad.
For some reason this movie has thus far received some surprisingly positive feedback at least in MAL, so I'll try and explain why I didn't like it as thoroughly as I can.
