The main characters are very determined talented girls who only have eyes for one guy... obsessed/devoted to them. They go into showbiz in the pursuit of said guy. They both have a romantic triangle going on, the second guy came into the picture because of the first one and in both cases the guys are possessive and competitive as they are in the same line of work. Skip beat has more comedy since Kyouko is angry and wants revenge but it still manages to be more realistic. Nino is a bit of an airhead which makes her cute but the story is more cliche with some unnecesary drama, might be aimed to angsty teens or it's simply lacking a bit in the story department. That being said it is enjoyable and I was glad to finally find something that resembles skip beat.

Mature and realistic slice of life, female point of view. If you enjoyed the slow pace and you are in one of those "look at yourself in the mirror" kind of moods this is exactly what you are looking for. Slightly nostalgic, bittersweet, very enjoyable watch. I really wish there was more like this!

Beautiful story. It's hard to describe without spoiling it, so I'll list the main differences: Natsume: youkai, fantasy, slow paced with some comedy, episodic for the most part. Marnie: slice of life with some mystery, it will make you cry.
