** spoilers for 1st episode**
Call me crazy, but from what I’ve seen this anime is misunderstood. On a scale from “pop team epic” to “sword art online”, surprisingly it’s a lot closer to the first option, even though at the first glance it appears to be opposite. This anime’s got: crazily op main character, a

gang of hot women following MC, ridiculous plot about revenge, completely insane and stupid characters, absolutely bland world and obviously the sex scenes which made me wonder whether I was watching an anime or hentai. It’s all that and even more but wait! It does work and it works because of one thing – self-awareness.
This is “THE anime” - what I mean by that is that I view it as the commentary on how the anime can get… well anime. Can’t think of a way to make your main character strong? Give him a power of “”healing”” which can do anything and it basically turns him into a living god! How do you take revenge for being tortured and raped for years? Show them why the “an eye for an eye” phrase was invented! Who’s the omnipotent demon lord that possesses the philosophers stone capable of bending the world to your will? Kawai anime girl that touches herself to the sounds of MC pleasuring his harem! (Btw that’s also how every episode ends) You get the idea, it’s silly in an entertaining way and it’s so blatant in its presentation, that I cannot accept it as anything else other than self-aware or ironic.
It also embraces the medium that it is because even the animation fits my theory. It’s absolutely lazy: the characters most of the time just walk, or talk and when it comes to action, the “someone is so fast that he’s simply teleporting all over the place” is used all the time. As well there aren’t any interesting shots, etc. etc. But do you know what is animated on a somewhat more acceptable level? Anime tiddies during sex scenes. Brilliant! The only improvement that there could be done is to make the animation during fights even worse and even better during sex scenes.
Music is forgettable, art style doesn’t stand out with anything. Characters can be described with one sentence or even word. It just doesn’t have a single feature that would differentiate this anime from any other anime. If you were to look at a photo of these characters few weeks after watching the show, would you honestly tell me their names? (The only name I was able to remember was Setsuna, and I’ve finished watching this show just yesterday) Or from which show do they originate? Of course not, and it (as well as literally anything else in this show) could’ve been made much better, but it wasn’t for the sake of being consistent with the parody style.
As long as the author isn’t pretending that “Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi” is not a revenge story of a boy that was drugged, tortured, humiliated and raped for years, it will continue to work. Saying that I’m worried that it might change, because of main character going softer in the latest episode.
And yeah, I might be giving this show a lot more credit than it deserves to, but this way I can view “redo of a healer” as a competent subtle parody of a genre.
