Starts very strong but the pacing is very poor. They introduce several important plot elements but do not resolve any on them, the final episode felt like it would be the 6th in any other 12 episode anime. There are so many important questions the viewer asks through the season, but literally none of them are answered by the end and there was nothing indicating a second season. The title of the anime is also very misleading, as the main character actually rarely uses a blade at all in the last 6 episodes.

That being said the characters are enjoyable and the animation is well ... done. If this gets another season to continue the storyline I will definitely watch it.

Don't let the art style from the poster keep you from giving this a chance!

This is a unique and well told story with interesting art and fantastic animation. Everything about it sways from the typical anime released each season to something that stands alone. It has complex characters that have great development as the series goes on as well as making seeing things from the perspectives of different characters makes things less black/white, good/evil and more of a complex and thought provoking story. You get first impressions of characters only to have those impressions blown out of the water as you learn more about ... them and why the act the way they do.

Finally the animation and audio is remarkable and flows very well together, mixing in the aspects of fun-happy-fantasy with fearsome-dire-heartfelt situations is a true recipe for success. As for the art I expected not to like it because my first impression was that it was more like a kids cartoon at first but it plays on itself in a great way. The art style works very well with the world they decided to create and the types of characters and creatures that live in it. It kept my mind thinking constantly of what was about to happen or what I thought was going on only to be pleasantly surprised later. The amount of empathy I felt for various characters was far more than I've felt for any character in other series I've completed. Each character has a little something everyone can relate to, and when they suffer or find joy it makes you feel those things as well.

TLDR
When all was said and done, this anime had so many unique, fun, and interesting components that all blended together into more of an experience than a show.

I enjoy this characters and the story progresses nicely. Animation seems slightly dated but that's only when they try to use CGI effects instead of animation. It's an interesting take on an Isekai anime where the main character doesn't start off overpowered, but instead is weak and goes through a trial by fire, experiencing hardships to get his strength. After he does it plays like a usual isekai, but you still know that backstory to see where his decisions are coming from. He also has a unique personality compared to other isekai heroes where he's not really "goody goody" and out to protect everyone, he's ... just doing his own thing for his own reasons. There are flaws but it's a unique series with a lot to offer so I'd say give it a try! 8/10

I guess there's a lot of hate on this anime, and I don't quite understand why? I've mostly seen people commenting about how it differs from source material? As someone who has only experience the anime I quite enjoy it personally so I guess if you didn't read the LN or manga you'll enjoy this more? Just a thought.

Starts strong with the first two episodes setting up what seems to be a great story. Unfortunately after that they just kinda forget about all that and start making entire episodes on random other people with nothing to do with plot set by the first 2 episodes. Honestly the MC is not even the character you see the most.

I give it 5/10 because I like the MC, art and animation is decent, but the story and plot are basically non-existent. Maybe this would make sense if it was the first 12 episodes of a 50 episode series, but with just these 12 I just ... don't get it. The plot literally doesn't progress AT ALL for the last 8 episodes. Not to mention the plot that's there has a lot of holes in it. It'll show random scene that seems like it's important to the story, not explain anything about it, then never mention it again.

I have ADD and this series seems to fit that kind of format. Starts telling a story, then LOOK A SQUIREL, then 4 min more of the story in an episode then LOOK AT THAT RANDOM DUDE ON A BENCH, then another 2 min of the story in a different episode. It's accurate to say that when I was finished I learned basically nothing about the story, had a LOT of questions, and felt like I had whiplash from how the episodes jump around without any rhyme or reason.

Finally the icing on the cake is the final episode of the season doesn't end with any cliffhanger, or having anything concluded or explained. It's just like any other filler episode. I was so confused after it was over and there wasn't another episode. I gave 5/10 overall, but for story I give 1/10.

This is honestly like watching the first 2 episodes of "shield hero" over and over.

If this is supposed to be comedy I'm really not getting it I guess because it's literally just seeing someone go through hell, and not in a way that makes you laugh, just in a way that makes you go "give this dude a break already" about 3 times per episode.

The best description I have of this so far is it is like a POV of being a bully's henchmen where you don't do the bullying, but you stand and watch it happen and just keep wanting ... to see the kid suffer more each day. Just makes me sad.
