Idiots to lovers, 12 episodes, slow burn.
I mean, excruciatingly slow burn. And tooth-decayingly sweet.
But that's the charm: because the poor kids can't figure themselves out, things take time and a ridiculous amount of doubt and insecurity and obliviousness. That's adolescence for you, most of all for the queer among us.
Stuff that I liked, in no particular order:
- Awareness for pressure and boundaries. Love to see it (even if Sasaki’s paralyzed pining breaks my heart).
- The Chairman’s acknowledgement that, yes, stuff do be different for gay relationships and homophobia exists, but it’s going to be alright.

A fantastic story of humans, hubris, humility (or lack thereof), self-sacrifice (or lack thereof), well-deserving of its reputation.
The ending in perticular was a highpoint, a heart-wrenching gentle going into that good day. (I feel like alchemy mechanics could have been better explored: as it is, the characters' plans seem to often to come out of nowhere. You need to understand a magical system in order to be satisfied with narative solutions derived from it. Also, the uniforms have been an eternal eyesore all throughout. I get what aesthetic and influences they were going for, and their flaws as military uniforms are all greater for it. How are ... |
