The both are full of very intelligent and hyper-rational characters, fast reasoning, deceits and deductions.

These two anime have two main points in common: - they are about time travels - there is a romantic relationship that grows between two characters separated by time-distance Moreover, there is a general common feeling about the stories and the various characters. Both anime are very very captivating and of the highest level: personally I highly recommend to watch both! ^^

This anime are quite similar for the general feeling: exploration of strange worlds, strange creatures. However Miyazaki's settings are always the most complete and his protagonists the most characterized.

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun

These two anime are in a sense similar for they both have very smart, intelligent and studious protagonists. They have issues with their past and their relationship grows as they know well each other. Maybe they also have in common tsundere undertones in the protagonist. I recommend Karekano, that I find more various and that I like more. Tonari no in fact is a little repetitive while Karekano's story develops more and covers more aspects of the protagonists' relationship. However I'll wait for the OVA.
