Both series are short and deal with awkward routes of love. System of Romance dealing with the main character's realization that she had romantic feelings for a dangerous criminal and Ai Girl being of where the main character realizes she's in love with her teacher. Both deal with the crime of rape and odd impressions such leaves on some women. Someone that likes one or the other surely will enjoy the other.

Both deal with self discovery of gender and crossdressing.

...then you might like Haikei, Nanashi-sama add

Both series are incredibly short, being one shots, and both deal with awkward romance. System of Romance deals with a girl realizing she had fallen in love with a dangerous felon, and Haikei, Nanashi-sama dealing with a girl sending sweet messages to an anonymous admirer. Both series deal with odd, round-about, but somewhat sweet methods to falling in love.

If you liked Hitsuji no Uta add

...then you might like Shiki add

Both Shiki and Hitsuji no Uta contain intricat plots involving vampires. Instead of the run-of-the-mill KILL THEM ALL concept, both shows bring forth different spins, bringing a different respect to vampire-based anime. Granted, both of these shows have entirely different plots (Shiki focusing on vampires trying to take over a vilage and the morality of murder, where as Hitsuji no Uta focuses on the concept of vampirism being a hereditary illness), the two share common elements in their ability to create a tense, eerie atmosphere and possess a story told in a serious tone.
