Psychedelic shitshow that sexualises sexual violence and abuse towards women. I think I made a mistake watching this because Osamu Dezaki was involved and Tatsuya Nakadai voice acted in it, lesson learnt. It's supposed to be about sexual liberation but the art is crude and brutally exploitative. The creator of this movie were probably a bunch of men with no idea the nuance of the experience of woman and their sexuality. Really unique art and watercolours used, really some of the frames were gorgeous. But tacky and gaudy execution.
I rarely write reviews, i just hate this movie so much i had to write one.

I always find the depiction of sexual violence problematic in most media and Innocent is no exception. It focuses more on depicting the act as a spectacle rather than conveying the agony of it so it is seen as just something perverse as opposed to an act of oppression, which it truly is. Had this issue more with Berserk but Innocent also suffers from it. And why does every character want to have sex with each other on meeting, people are incredibly disinhibited despite being in such a rigid society.
Despite the excessive violence, which at the end of the series crescendo'ed into a climax of ...

This is the season the show peaks, with more unravelling of Tsurumi's extensive manipulative plots, Sugimoto treating Asirpa as an equal and Asirpa growing and realising that she has to do what she can for her people. All the while pointing to an alternate way of looking for the lost Ainu gold. Slowly the story is starting to reach a climax but still keeps its classic vulgar humour in the writing. For them to be able to seamlessly have comedy, history, action, hunting, food and all sorts of other genres of shows in one story yet still forward its overarching plot of saving a dying
