Why is it that those who seek power will go any length to become strong, and why is it that those who have power never want to use it?
This is an anime I would love to compliment on how it started, instead of just using those boring character introductions and beginnings that take forever to start right from episode 1 and 2 it just jumped in the show, which I absolutely loved. As you can see, this is a very fast paced anime that doesn’t waste time.
This is a post apocalyptic anime (in short the end of the world type of anime) and for the
...
most part follows the 17th platoon on the journey they embark.
To be frank, the characters in this anime are very very unoriginal. It is almost like what you see in most anime, you have Mr. Hero, you have a bunch of girls who tend to fall in love with Mr. Hero saving them and then you always have that one character who is tsundere. I am not saying this is a bad thing, but for this type of anime, which is following the journey these characters go on, character development and unique characters is something that helps tremendously. There is really only one character, obviously the main main character “Layfon Wolfstein Alseif”, who you cant really make original. Aside from him, I personally would have changed the characters to be a bit more unique.
As to this show, it does have some very fun and energetic fighting scenes, and as usual has tons and tons of scenes of Mr. Hero saving someone and then the person he saves falls in love with him. What I personally enjoyed about this show though is the use of “power” in it. This is a very straightforward show puts people on 2 different levels, are they strong or are they weak. Due to this split, which is good in some ways could also be very hurtful. When there is such a black and white anime like this it tends to lack character development because the weak are never able to be on par with the strong, thus the split is harmful. What is good about doing this, is it makes other characters strive to reach up to those levels by any means possible and this is a way to bring some development into the characters. If you do not understand what I am saying, to summarize, this show lacked character development, but it was not a total and utter fail because of the use of “power”.
Always the easiest and hardest question to answer, did you enjoy this anime. Due to the fact that I just watched Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu (The legend of the legendary hero) which is practically identical to this, and this was the type of show I was in the mood for I did enjoy it. By far my favorite parts were the fighting scenes and also the character Layfon. Layfon was what made this show interesting because of his nature of being unique and people being an outcast, trying to fit in with society. Just as a little side note, throughout this anime you will see clips of a story that is all in English, this is the most confusing part of the anime so don’t be turned off by this. What I personally want to do is look more into what the meaning of that side story is because I found it very complicated and it did leave some questions unanswered for me. Aside from that, that side story was one of the most unique things I have seen in an anime, even if I didn’t understand it completely, I found that it was able to bring some more life to this anime.
Just to quickly touch on the songs (and art) the only one that I want to talk about is the ending song (like the end end song). This song as usual was very powerful, due to the fact I was expecting a song like this because of how related it is to some other animes, I still find it pleasing that animes are able to bring the type of sadness emotion to you that the anime is at the end. This is something that I love because it always brings like warmth to my heart, but I also despise because I feel like this type of anime could continue on but never will. For the art section, there really isn’t anything for me to write, it was just your typical art nothing out of the ordinary and nothing that stood out as being bad, I have no reason to praise or citizen this.
Why do you seek to become strong and gain power? Is it for your own personal use, or do you wish to help people in this world?
That concludes my review. If you have any questions or comments please just send me a pm or write on my wall, I will try my best to answer to the best of my power! What started off being a very light-hearted anime quickly turned in an anime that sent chills down my back. I kind of just wanted to write that one sentence as my review because it is what changed my view on this anime and what made me write this review
The title of this show “Robotics;Notes was quite simple to understand. The first part “Robotics” refers to the club that Akiho Senomiya and Kaito Yashio are trying to keep alive the Robotics Club. The second part of the title “Notes” refers to the Kimishima Report and the notes that Kou Kimishima left behind, and being able to
...
figure out what they mean.
The first two people you meet are Akiho Senomiya and Kaito Yashio. Akiho has a dream, and this dream is to complete the robot Gan-tsuke that her sister Misaki started years ago at the same school. Akiho is a character that is full of life and energy, but at the same time isn’t the smartest of the bunch. Kaito, her childhood friend really has no interest in the club and was just dragged along by Akiho, but what he does like is robot fighting games. Not only does he love them, he is completely absorbed/addicted to them and the only way to ask him to do favors is to beat him at the game Kill-Ballad, whom is created by Kona Furugoori. Just to put in very simple words who Kona is… she is a NEET that is really all you need to know about her for now.
This anime, aside from being about Robots and solving mysteries, also is about friendship and bonding. Now I know tons and tons of animes are about friendship and bonding, but what is particularly special about this anime is how far they are willing to go for each other and to be able to protect this friendship that they have made.
To be honest though, once starting this anime I was not expecting much more than a show that would bring enjoyment, and be able to laugh and maybe watch some cool fights, but this idealistic idea of mine was quickly turned astray. Even though what is happening is very unexpected, this is what makes me super stoked about watching this anime every Thursday (or Friday). On an Enjoyment based level this anime is actually amazing, there is nothing really more you can ask for, when you start watching a show having low expectations and this show completely turning around and being one of my favorite shows from last season. To put a comparison in your head this show is like watching those animes that have robot fights, and when the robots die or loose an arm blood spurts out. If you don’t understand what I am trying to say it is how unexpected this anime really is.
I guess the last thing I can talk about is the op/ed songs. I am just going to say by far the best song used in this anime is the OP (Zwei – Junjo Spectra). It really just has a nice tempo and beat to it that almost seems very fitting and suitable for this anime. It almost seems as if something amazing is going to happen right after I hear that song, which on the most part is true.
This review is a wee bit shorter than I expected, but honestly I am not 100% sure what more to add or write about. This show is very underrated and there really wasn’t much “hype” for when it started and came out, but I recommend you give this anime a shot, I can almost promise you won’t be disappointed with the outcome. If you have any questions or comments please just send me a pm or write on my wall, I will try my best to answer to the best of my power! Anger, sorrow, hatred, despair, happiness…regardless if you are a human or a monster, these are emotions that everyone feels. What is a monster? The ones who are born unique to others and have no say, or the ones who hunt them down and kill them due to fear of being overpowered?
The title of this anime in English translates to “The Legend of the legendary heroes”, which is a very relevant and fitting name for this anime. It is quite simple and at the same time quite complex. After watching just a few episodes you will understand the meaning, but what I do recommend is that
...
as you are watching try to figure out the multiple meanings of this anime title, and try not to just categorize this anime title as a “simple one”. Now to begin the adventure of the legendary heroes!
The story starts off where you meet two out of the three most important characters. Ryner Lute is with his partner Eris Ferris on a mission to try and collect these “Legendary Hero” relics. At first while watching this anime, like most animes you tend to start off confused and wondering where this show is going to go. You have Ryner Lute who is a magician and holds a secret power within himself. His partner Ferris… man on man what an interesting character to put in an anime that could have been very serious. She practically uses her “charm” as an excuse to bully Ryner. She also bullies Ryner by calling him a “monster” (in a jokingly way) that abducts and does terrible stuff to kids and women. Aside from that she forces Ryner to agree with her, and EVERY mission she has to have her dango, and she uses the excuse to go on missions with Ryner to “protect the dango”.
Later on you will meet the last main character who is King Sion Astal. As you can probably tell he is a king, and throughout the anime you learn bits and pieces of why he became king, and what he wanted to achieve as king… the usual. What made this such an interesting story was how you would always learn about the pasts of different characters in like segments and at crucial times during the anime. You learn about why most of them are who they are as the story goes on. You realize though after a while, after learning about all the characters pasts, some main some supporting, that this show could be very powerful and you could learn important life changing lessons. The biggest problem I found with this anime, aside from all the unanswered questions was the character Ferris. I mean I felt like her character (being tsundere) just went overboard at some points. Like at one point it will be very serious and intense and the next she is making fun of Ryner and it completely killed the atmosphere that had been built up.
Aside from that, the only minor thing that I was disappointed about was the lack of a presence of Kiefer Knolles. I felt as if she could be one of the most important characters but she kind of just disappeared and reappeared randomly and I personally think she is one of the most important characters, especially for the development of who Ryner Lute really is. Those were the two biggest issues (or really only the issues) that I had with this show.
Some things that I really enjoyed about this show were the magic, the character development, the character interaction with each other, and also the character styles. I really liked the way they portrayed the characters. This also goes with the fighting scenes that happened. I really like the pace they went at and also enjoyed watching all the unique aspects that were brought to each fight, and at the same time some of the silliness that was added. This show did go into great detail during the fighting scenes, with lots of parts being cut in half and everything that you would expect for a show that is rated “R”. That was one thing I was not disappointed bout, the amount of blood that flew around and the inhumanity of how people were treated.
This show also managed to show another lifestyle that isn’t as relevant in today’s society, which is hierarchy. You have a king at the top and then the lords who follow him and the commoners. At first, this sounds like an ideal way of living for the people because they believe that what the king is doing was helping the commoners out a lot, but in reality you notice that people are still treated as outcasts and excommunicated from society (shunned). This show was also able to show you that people might act nice on the outside, but deep down they have this hatred towards certain types of people just because they are different.
On a different note though, the music in this anime was good, nothing outstanding but it went with the show nicely. Personally the part that I always look for is when they end a show what is the mood or atmosphere that they leave you in. For this anime I found this very fitting using a very mellow song that filled each episode almost with a suspense and sadness in our hearts. I did really enjoy them trying to bring emotion to this anime (which was quite successful), and to be able to in some cases feel the pain of some of the characters and what they had to go through.
This leads to ‘did I actually enjoy this show’? As I say in most of my reviews I do enjoy almost all animes, but there is always something that leaves almost this hesitant feeling in me, and in this case was all the unanswered questions that were left. Normally animes leave maybe 2-3 questions for the viewer to think about but this anime had an amount that made the series feel incomplete. With the incompleteness of the anime also comes the hope of expecting more to come, if you look at it in an optimistic way, otherwise…. You know where I am going. At the end of the day though, once I completed this anime I was quite pleased with the outcome because at first glances I was not expecting that much from this anime.

Are you willing to protect someone you love with your life? Are you able to atone for all the sins you have done?
“No matter how cruel the world is, life has meaning” – Joseph Jobson
I know it is strange to start a review by giving the significance of this anime and the message it leaves behind, but I believe it is something in life that is kept quiet about.
Suicide…Self Sacrifice… Submission… Never Lose Hope... Never Give Up
While watching this anime, which I highly recommend, not for the artwork but for the story think about change. Think about the importance of human life and being alive
...
each day. Think about why you were born into this world. Do not ever forget that you having a meaning in this world and that you are important.
The name of the anime “Blassreiter” which is a German word that translates to “Pale Rider” is a very unique name. Many anime’s are either named in a very simple matter… for instance “Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo” which translates to “The Pet Girl of Sakurasou” which literally translates word for word what the anime is about, or you have anime’s like “K” where there is no solid meaning but you can pull hints from like the names of each episodes or maybe translating it as “Kings” by pulling information from the songs used, and what the anime is about. But Blassreiter is different, I am sure many of you don’t know what a “Pale Rider” is as I was unsure, but upon investigation it means “a horseman” and in those terms I understand fully why the anime was named that, but I will not explain why because it does contain a huge spoiler. You will have to watch the show to find out what the true meaning of this show is.
Within watching the first 2 episodes of this anime, I was already confused. They throw all these terms at you like “Amalgams” and “Demoniacs” and to be honest after those first 2 episodes I just became hooked. The first day I watched 16 episodes, and the next day I watched the remaining 8 episodes. I do sometimes manage to go through other series at this accelerated pace, but most of the time I will end up skimming some of the episodes and skipping over unnecessary parts that are just their as fillers, this show however I managed to practically watch the whole show through.
Story:
At first I thought the story had no clear direction in which it was going, but after a while you figure out generally what is going on. The story takes place in a “fictional Germany” and research is conducted to create almost like “perfect humans” but for war. There are 2 distinctive sides in this show, a military group called XAT, which is trying to stop the outbreak of Demoniacs, and then the other side which I assumed you have figured out.
Characters:
There are 4 main characters in this show that I will be talking about.
Gerd Frentzen: aka “Champ”. He is the undefeated racing champion and seen as an idol by many.
Joseph Jobson: He is a unique character whom you probably will not understand his intentions until later on in the story, and you can decide if what he was doing was correct. In my opinion, aside from being one of the most important characters he is also one that teaches you the most important lessons.
Hermann Saltza: He is an officer of XAT and also Gerds best friend who sticks up for him no matter what.
Amanda Werner: This is the character that so highly resembles Mayor Lil from “Ergo Proxy”. Almost everything about them is identical and being able to see a character like this just put such a big smile to my face. Aside from that, Amanda is an officer of XAT and is partnered up with Hermann.
This is one of the shows where character development was huge and all the main characters had such a big impact. Many shows I watch, you see main characters who get tons of screen time but you wonder what their real purpose is, and after finishing the show you realize… nothing they just needed to add someone as a filler almost. Those types of shows tend to sadden me the most because they always had the potential to be able to shine. This show I became absolutely attached to all the main characters but if I had to choose one it would have to be “Amanda Werner”. There is no other obvious choice for “me” because of how similar she is to Mayor Lil. Mayor Lil is by far one of my favorite characters, from her personality, all the way to her looks and design. So me becoming attached to Amanda Werner was no big surprise after all.
Artwork:
I have to be brutally honest I am normally not super critical about artwork, but the artwork in this show was absolutely horrendous. Maybe horrendous is a little bit over kill but I am sure you understand, it just angered me to the bottom of my soul. To have such an amazing story and such amazing characters, for it to just be killed by the artwork is just such a shame. What I hated the most out of all was just the design for Demoniacs, they just looked horrible and the designs were very repetitive throughout each Demoniac. Aside from that factor, the artwork for the rest was okay. Also going based on the battle scenes everything just happened too fast. I don’t mean “fast” as in they could have added some episodes in here and there for more development I mean it just hurt my eyes to watch the fights. Everything was just all over the place and it was hard to follow what was actually going on, and the next thing you know someone was dead and you missed everything. I cannot stand shows that do this; to me it is just like people who are too lazy to throw their trash away. This show was almost too lazy to go into more detailed battle scenes and just threw it together like a mosh pit.
Sound: OP/ED
I am just going to go through some of the songs used in this anime, starting from the end.
The Last ED “Sweet Lies” – by Itou Kanako which is only used in the last episode (24) was by far the best one of this anime. The setting and mood that this anime left you in alongside then hearing this song was just soothing. This song was so perfectly chosen. Honestly when I was finished watching the show and then this song came on at the end it literally brought me on the verge of tears (I don’t tend to cry during animes but I get that watery feeling like when you are about to cry). This song just made me unbelievable happy and left such an amazing feeling that I was speechless at the end. Not many anime’s are able to evoke such an emotion. Even as I am listening to the full song while writing this (and I just finished the anime about 20-30 minutes ago) I feel as though I just finished watching it seconds ago and I am back in that moment.
The second OP “Unripe Hero” – by Minami Kuribayashi was just absolutely stunning. The lyrics of the song are soo fitting towards this anime. In General, OP/ED tend to be chosen very well, but in this particular case the Last ED was by far the best.
I can probably spend quite a bit of time on the songs used in this anime but the last one I want to talk about is the 3rd ED “A Wish for the Stars” – by Itou Kanako. Using the same artist again is something animes tend to do a lot of, and honestly it is something that leaves a really good impression. Now this song was honestly just as good as the Last ED but I cannot say it was because even though it had the same tone, the mellowness and serenity left inside the melody… I am going to try my best to put what is inside my head into words but I doubt it is going to sound 100% accurate. By using this song for about half the anime, I loved it but it just cannot beat using a song once for an ending that practically fits perfectly together like a puzzle. By all means thought this song was amazing. This show really kicked off using such amazing songs for the OP and especially for the ED!
Enjoyment:
There is really no place to start other than saying “if I managed to watch this in 2 days, it must mean something”. Like I wish I was able to take what is inside my brain right now and write it in words, but we all know that is nearly impossible so we have to compensate. On an enjoyment rate of 1-10, this scale cannot be used for how good it was, it is just over and beyond amazing. At first I was not expecting much because this show just threw soo much at you as I stated above but in the end I feel as if it managed to really kick through and leave such a big impact. Like honestly I have watched over 150 animes and I am going to say this is going be one of the few that I re-watch, I am not going to say like re-watch from episode 1 to episode 24 every minute, but I will probably re-watch at least 12 of the episodes fully, that is just how amazing of a show this was. The thing is like the suspense that this show left from watching the first time is something that I almost see as nearly impossible, to be able to evoke the exact same feelings at the same level as watching it the first time. Now I could be wrong but when I do re-watch this show I am going to probably skim through many of the episodes but will watch some of them thoroughly again.
Just as a little added special, I noticed that the top 2 recommended animes were Blood+ and Darker than Black. I am not going to say those are bad choices but in my opinion they are not correct. By far the most relevant anime relating to Blassreiter is Ergo Proxy. Once I was around episode 5 of Blassreiter that show just kept on popping up into my head and of how similar it was. I would highly highly HIGHLY recommend watching Ergo Proxy. The second show which I would recommend is Ga-Rei: Zero. I am not sure how to explain it but the stories are very similar, about self sacrifice and being able to protect what you love. Also Ga-Rei had one of the most amazing scenes on the final episode. What made me think of this show, was not only the story but the final episode. Like I can just remember vividly the music in the background which was soo similar to this its unbelievable. When I watched Ga-Rei I didn’t think I would be able to find an ending scene like that, but Blassreiter has managed to do it.
Well that was a very long review I just wrote… If you have any questions or comments please just send me a pm or write on my wall, I will try my best to answer to the best of my power! Whenever I start to watch a new anime series I always look at the genres and brainstorm some simple thoughts of what type of show this could be. So for this show before even watching it these were the 3 ideas that came to mind.
1. A bunch of girls congregate around 1 guy, and this guy is normally very shy and “uncool” as we may speak. This category could sometimes fall under the genre of “Harem” (To Love-Ru)
2. The guy is a complete pervert who chases after those “eye candy” girls that stand out and call for attention. (Sunabouzu [Desert Punk])
3. The guy is a
...
complete pimp who all the girls like and he gets with all the girls he wants. (Hagure Yuusha no Estetica [Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero]). There are very few wishy-washy moments and it is normally straight to the point.
As it was seen from the beginning of the show, this one defiantly is under category 1, but this show is not a Harem at all. As the title says this show is going to mainly revolve around a girl named “Mashiro” and a guy named “Sorata”.
Story:
The plot of the story is quite simple. Sorata is designated to take care of Mashiro. We know this is a typical romance show so we as the viewers don’t hope for much because from the beginning we have a good feeling of what the outcome of this show is going to be. But there is more! Lucky for us aside from this being about Sorata and Mashiro, a huge part of this show is also about confessions and people being heartbroken. In a way this show tries to take a real high school environment, but show a different perspective of what life is really like.
Artwork:
I honestly don’t like talking about this much because unless the artwork of an anime really sticks out and has its own personality, I will most likely see it as “mediocre” or “average”. That is the category this anime falls under, it has its “WOOOAAAH AWSOME” moments and then there is also those “sure whatever lets just continue the show”. This anime artwork is just very simple and I don’t mind it, but I am not going to praise something like this.
Sound (OP/ED):
I honestly think that most shows do a really good job at choosing opening theme songs and ending theme songs. Most of the time I have not been disappointed by them and I find that for this show the songs were very fitting. The opening song is just very full of energy and spunk, which is something this show has a lot of. The ending song I am absolutely in love with! Like the transition that they managed to do from the ending of an episode to this song is always amazing and brings warmth to “my” heart, I don’t know what others think but this is just my opinion.
Characters:
Well I kind of already introduced the 2 main characters in my opinion. But just to add on to where I started in the beginning this is obviously a love show, so there is going to be many characters who fall in love.
Misaki: She is just an overly energetic girl who does not accept “no” as an answer. Her energy levels are just on another level
Nanami: She is childhood friends with Sorata and the rest you will figure out soon after…
Jin: Honestly he is just a player who loves to mess around with girls. That is all there is to him.
Honestly though, especially for this show you kind of expect, or already know that the main characters all tend to fall in love with each other and have their own stories, it is now just the who/when/and what happens that you are looking forward to.
Enjoyment:
I enjoy many shows, actually more like 95% of the animes I watch but does it mean it is good? Not at all! So I will say, I do enjoy this show but what do I really think about it? Its kind of just like your typical Romantic shows. Everything happens either during Christmas, Valentine’s day, or at the festivals. Like why can’t they make a show that all the confessions happen at such a predictable time, for me it just ruins the moment a lot. Like I am hoping to find a Romantic show that just goes out of the ordinary and uses more creative methods to show people confessing their feelings to each other. Like I wont criticize this show for just being the ‘follower’ and going with how most romance shows are, but when will a show manage to break the chain and start a new one?
Would I recommend this show for others to watch? Ofcourse! It is to me a very light hearted romantic comedy show that has a good flow to it, but is like your typical romance shows. I personally find nothing special about this show, aside from the character Mashiro. She is a very unique, dynamic character that just makes this show soo interesting to watch. Like in our lives we don’t really imagine taking care of someone to that extent who is our age. Maybe if they were younger than us or a senior that is fine, but someone who is in highschool (or whatever grade they are in), this is almost unthinkable. But that is what makes this show so interesting to me, being able to see the kindness that some people are able to go to, and how far they are really willing to go for what/who they care for. I do consider this show to be a bit different from the typical “helpess girl meets overly-friendly guy who them takes care of her”. The storyline isn’t far off from that but the ONLY difference is the extremeness of this case and how much help is actually needed.
Also, when I am watching an anime I like to see if I can pull out life lessons that people could learn from and the biggest one is “always give it your all for everyone and never leave someone out”. This relates to school also, don’t leave people out because they are a little different; just try to accept everyone for who they are, not for what you want them to be.
Well that’s it folks! If you have any questions or comments please just send me a pm or write on my wall, I will try my best to answer to the best of my power! I will accept any type of feedback on to how to better improve my reviews, but please be constructive as well!

Another is a horror mystery that depicts the curse going on in class 3-3. Aside from the occasional disfigured humans that have been murdered, or the hatred between one another, this is one horrifying anime. This anime is one of few that invokes “fear” within us, as time goes on more horrific events occur which leave the viewer startled.
This story takes place in classroom 3-3, where it has been a cursed classroom for 26 years. Each year there is that extra (another) student, whom is exiled from the class in order to try and prevent the calamity that is occurring. The issue is, this
...
calamity does not have a “solution” to solving it, and therefore they try to piece together information in order to try and come up with a solution. In this anime there are many mysteries, and unanswered questions that will keep you thinking.
The artwork in this anime is absolutely fascinating. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, the darkness in the colors really brings out the true nature of this show. This show is a mystery horror, and lighting and colors is something that helps invoke fear to the viewers. This anime ‘s use of the dark colors, creepy buildings, and eerie setting, help this anime really come to life. In almost all horror, mystery, any type of dark anime, something that is important is the blood. How do they portray the blood? In this anime it is almost like black blood. In some of the scenes, the blood is a very dark dark red, but it is also sometimes portrayed as black, which really invokes the horror that you are seeing within this anime.
The soundtrack in this anime is truly fascinating. The opening song is very energetic and contradicting to what to expect. I personally think this brings a nice touch, because instead of using a slow paced song, which could add to the atmosphere of what to expect in this anime, it uses a very upbeat song. Aside from being such an upbeat song, the meaning is what counts. This song talks about being alone and the darkness within our hearts. This songs words express destruction and really what this anime wants to show. The ending theme song is also beautiful. This is the more classical type of ending for this type of show, slow and a very touching song. This is the type of song that depresses the viewer, but it is also very fitting for this anime, because it is depressing, all the tragic deaths, alongside with the curse that is haunting this school.
There are many characters in this anime, but only a few ones that actually have a significant role in this anime. Koichi Sakakibara is the transfer student who is going to be attending Yomiyama North Middle School class 3-3. Koichi is 15 years old, and has been hospitalized before coming here because he was sick. His goal after joining this school is to figure out the secret behind the mysterious deaths that are occurring. He is accompanied by a girl called Mei Misaki, whom was the girl exiled in response to trying to stop the calamity from occurring. Koichi befriends Mei unknowingly, that she is the student whom does not exist. Throughout this anime both Koichi and Mei become closer friends with each other, both with a common goal—to stop the calamity in class 3-3. A less important character, but one that deserves mentioning is Izumi Akazawa. She is in charge of the “countermeasures”, due to the curse within class 3-3. Her job is to try and prevent people from dying due to being part of the class of 3-3.
This is an anime that I would highly recommend to watch, if you are interested in a mystery horror, alongside gruesome deaths. I personally really enjoyed this anime because of the suspense. This was an anime that not only kept me thinking in order to try and figure out the mystery of class 3-3, but in order to see the answer that they come forth with. Not only is the story unique, but it also keeps the viewer wanting to know more and more. Something that also made this anime very good, alongside the themes of horror and suspense, was the art. The use of the dark colors always helps make a point when watching a horror show. The lack of light and being able to see what is happening is something this anime prevents. Truly, both of these factors are what make this such a good anime. If one of these aspects was missing, this anime would not have been as nerve racking and scary.
Just as a quick side note or whatever you want to call it, take notice of the titles of each episode, they have a significant meaning most of them. I wont expand on this due to the fact that it could spoil some of the episodes.

Have you seen many psychological horror animes that truly scare the living wits out of you, not ones that are just mindless bloodbaths, but rather that has a story or plot to go along with it? This is what Elfen lied is, a psychological thriller/horror show that takes the word “scary” to a whole other meaning. As seen in the first two minutes of the show are proven to be a hacky and bloody mess of heads and limbs. Overtime, however, the show grows more on a plot and becomes rather enjoyable rather than just a mindless bloodbath.
**Blood and gore - two factors that you
...
need to prepare yourself when entering this anime. Cruelty and nudity - two accessories that are always present in this anime. If any of these things disgust or disinterest you, then reading this review is next to useless.**
Elfen lied is about a mutant species of humans called Diclonius who want to live in the human world. The only issue is, aside from the fact they have horns (stubs), these Diclonius are out there to try and kill their own kind, and therefore cannot live peacefully with each other. This show is going to show you the life of Lucy, and how she is treated differently for being a Diclonii.
The artwork used in this anime was not amazing. The main concern that I had was how “bright” the colors were. The colors were like very pleasing and friendly, unlike how a horror anime should be visualized. Preferable, darker, more eerie colors would have suited the atmosphere of this anime more appropriately. Because this anime is known for its mass amounts of blood and gore, looking at the color of the blood, it was too bright a red. With horror animes, something that is very important is the mood, or atmosphere in which it takes place, and just overall at the beginning. They managed to make the blood color match the atmosphere of being bright and welcoming, but rather they should have used a darker red blood alongside a darker atmosphere.
The opening theme for this anime was brilliant. The slow pace and high “a cappella” voice just brought out the creepiness that was to be expected in this anime. The ending theme for this anime is a different story. It is way to “active” of a song for this type of anime. The ending song is just way to light-hearted and too fast paced unlike the opening theme. For the ending theme they should have done something equally as creepy as the opening theme in order to keep the right mood throughout the anime.
There are two main characters that whom are very important in this anime. First one is Lucy [also known as Nyu], and the second one is Kouta (he allows Lucy to stay with him). Lucy is a very interesting characters because of her multiple personalities. Most of the time her personality is that of Nyu, which is very childlike, playful, friendly, but not of her age. Then there is her real personality; this is when she is Lucy. Lucy is a very mature woman who shows hatred and no empathy towards humans because of how she was treated in the past. Kouta is just seen as the ordinary character who has a heart made of gold. Kouta was always kind to everyone, even Lucy, regardless of her differences. Just as a side-note, Lucy and Kouta went way back, when they used to go to school together. Kouta was one of the few people who respected and treated Lucy as an equal. The thing that I really enjoyed about how they Lucy was her multiple personalities. Just that alone made a single, amazing character that was truly remarkable to watch throughout the show. A not as important character is Yuka, this is Kouta's cousin [ just for reference later on in this review].
I would highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in watching a show full of blood and gore. You are most likely reading this and have read the disclaimer above, so I do not need to say much more about that. What I really liked about this anime was not just the mass amounts of blood and gore, but the story that followed. By creating a mutant human being, and showing how hard of a life she has/had is what truly made this such a wonderful anime to watch.
**Small Spoiler**The most memorable scene that I could remember that is not blood and gore related was in the first episode. This was when Nyu broke the seashell that meant everything to Kouta, because it was the last thing that his sister left with him. What really made that scene amazing was when Yuka explained to him how he should not have such sad memories of his sister, and Nyu possible broke the shell because she saw how it made him sad. The only thing that I disliked about this anime was the colors as I said above. Other than that, I would highly recommend watching this anime.
