Ah yes, Kill la Kill, perhaps one of the most controversial fall anime of the 2013 line-up. Most think Kill la Kill is entirely fanservice, which is not true; the fanservice is there, yes, but its part of the show which makes it its own.
Story: 9/10
Kill la Kill is about a girl named Ryuuko Matoi who is seeking retribution for her father who she found murdered. Ryuuko happens upon Honnouji Academy, an incredibly strict and over the top school run by the somewhat "evil dictator" Satsuki Kiryuin. These two girls form the basis of the story of Kill la Kill, along with the overally zealous

Mako Makanshou. The story of Kill la Kill changes so much along the way, each episode feels as if its the finale. There are many twists and turns during the course of Kill la Kill's story, that sometimes you do not see the surprises coming your way. Sometimes the story does move fast at points, causing it to feel a bit rushed. Overall, the story of Kill la Kill is original and changes so much from its main plot, that you do not know what to expect.
Art: 9/10
The art of Kill la Kill is definitely Trigger-esque, which is some of the best of its kind. Its almost like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt were mashed together, and out came Kill la Kill. Each character looks unique and stylish, which is not seen in most animes. While the main art of Kill la Kill is unique and beautiful, there is also the talked about "fanservice". Most think the fanservice of Kill la Kill is stupid and what defines it, but I view it as typical Trigger fanservice. Trigger is well known for going ridiculous with its art, which is nothing new. So, I say, the art of Kill la Kill is fantastic, and yes it does offer fanservice, but it is entirely original of Trigger Studios.
Sound: 10/10
The sound of Kill la Kill is absolutely fantastic. Ryuuko's main theme is harsh and gritty, while Satsuki's sounds almost like a dictator's theme. The sound blends in well with the action of the show, and what is going on in that moment. It makes the person watching the show feel moved as to what is going on; whether it is a fight scene, or an emotional moment, you feel moved and involved with the show. The OST of Kill la Kill is definitely memorable, as there are so many different sounds that evoke different emotions.
Character: 8/10
The characters of Kill la Kill are definitely some that are quite memorable. Ryuuko starts off as somewhat simple-minded; she is only looking for the person who killed her father, and will get to it no matter what. Yet, at the end, she is changed into someone who cares about not only the people around her, but herself. The same goes for Satsuki, who is viewed throughout the most half of the show as cold, calculating, and harsh. Satsuki undergoes quite a change in the show, becoming a beautiful, smart, and overall nice person. I view Satsuki as having most of the character development in the show, which is fantastic. As well with other characters, such as Mako, the Elite Four, and the Nudists, they all get their screentime, but not enough character development. Side characters such as the ones mentioned, do not get enough explained on them, nor enough screentime to do it.
Enjoyment: 10/10
If you ignore what people say about this show and just watch it for your own enjoyment, you will definitely have a great time enjoying Kill la Kill. Kill la Kill, I believe, is meant to take you on a ride that will change you by the end. It opened my eyes to the bigger picture of the show in itself. Kill la Kill, like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann I believe, is supposed to involve the viewer with the show and make them feel as if they are part of the action and the emotions of the characters.
Overall: 9/10
Overall, Kill la Kill is a great, misunderstood show. This show will make you laugh, cry, mad, and go through all the emotions over and over again. Kill la Kill was a great experience for me, as it was for many other people. The action and characters of Kill la Kill will definitely impact your life; they are the kind that make you care about them. Kill la Kill is definitely a show that you must watch before you die.
