Like most people who are on MAL, I watched anime as a kid. I started out with mostly Ghibli films like Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky. I did also watch Sailor Moon, Digimon, and Pokemon while growing up, but honestly, my love of anime really didn't come until I was older. I had a cousin who really enjoyed anime and grew up primarily watching anime. My cousin gave me some good recommendations when I first started out. Some of those recommendations were One Piece, Full Metal Alchemist, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, Chronos Crusade, and Black Clover. All of them are really good shows and I highly recommend. Those shows are what really got me into anime and really loving this type of medium.

How I rate the anime I watch is based on the overall experience and how much I enjoyed the anime as a whole. I probably rate anime higher than most because I usually have some enjoyment out of most anime that I watch. The anime has to be absolute terrible or just bad for me to give it a bad rating.
