even though the first 1 hour long episode was fantastic (with it having a great turning point and shift in mood) the other two episodes have terrible pacing. I was excited to see a deathnote-like cat and mouse intellectual chase, but after the next two episodes that seems to not be the case. it's more about the industry than the actual revenge plot, which i wasn't too sure if i'd be happy viewing.
episode 1 makes me think it would be a breath of fresh air for the 2023 animes that are all the same, but no, it's pretty much generic. i don't feel like i'm

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
(Anime)
add
you know, i was put off at first because of the negative comments, but i still watched it anyway just to at least see cool cyborgs. and honestly, i don't necessarily agree with some of the negative claims!
i have been very busy for the past few months, and although i wanted to watch anime, nothing piques my interest anymore, but my eyes were glued to the screen for the 3 hours after starting the first episode!! it's surprisingly good for a video game anime adaptation (though the game itself is just a buggy nightmare) the soundtrack was nice, modern, and the opening song is Franz ... Ryuu to Sobakasu no Hime
(Anime)
add
I watched Belle a few months back, and at first I was absolutely amazed! But when I re-watched it a few weeks ago again, I started to notice the story could've been done so much better (and in fairly easy ways too.)
I felt like the original script could've ran for so much longer, and there was actually more to the story itself, but then it became so long that chunks of it had to be removed. I think this movie, plot line and premise has a good potential to be a 12 episode series. The script should've elaborated on characters like Ruka Watanabe (the popular ... Mar 10, 2022
Haibane Renmei
(Anime)
add
Haibane renmei is one of my favourite animes, the world building is in depth, the characters are fun and the story itself and the questions it brings are captivating! The interactions between Raka and the other Haibane during the first 6 episodes really set the right atmosphere. Haibane renmei discusses the purpose of life and its meaning, how mysterious it is.
The symbolism is done it a way that doesn't feel like its shoving it at our faces (what evangelionm did) and the story itself isn't completely vague (much like SEL). For me, it was fun to try and figure out the answers to the proposed ... Mar 10, 2022
Genji Monogatari
(Anime)
add
Tries toooo hard to be artistic!! Wayyy too slow! This is insulting to the original novel "Genji Monogatari"
The art and sound is fine, I don't have much complaints about it ^^ The story of the original novel is grim, fascinating while the movie just turns it into storyboarding hell!! Walking from one place to another should not take that long! I get scenarios like Evangelion's elevator scene but this?? I don't see the meaning or purpose behind these dreadfully slow motions and I feel like it's just...pretentious. The art itself is quite beautiful, I must admit. and there's minimal sound (or when it's used it's very appropriate). ... Mar 9, 2022
Tenshi no Tamago
(Anime)
add
Though it discusses themes very well, I'd say the movie was way too slow!! Building atmosphere is good, but once it gets too slow, it gets repetitive and boring. The story is okay, it probably is Christian symbolism about faith (I was raised in a very catholic household!) and I don't have much to complain about it. Art is a good 10/10, I love the hauntingly beautiful characters! Sound was also great, used appropriately and not too flashy, which is really- just my personal taste for sound design.
It has great art, good sounds and a nice story, yet I couldn't bring myself to *really* ... Mar 8, 2022
Texhnolyze
(Anime)
add
I'm a big fan of dystopic settings and texhnolyze is almost a blessing from the heavens. I like the world design and the colours chosen for the eerie setting, with paper white skies and greyscale buildings- this also includes the dull yet realistic looking characters. The show touches subjects concerning existentialism very well, I love the division between lux and the upperworld, and how the show demonstrates how lack of purpose can strive a species crazy and eventually go extinct. It's a shame not many people have even heard of this show.
This isn't a show for entertainment, a story to sip tea to. it's ... Aug 4, 2021
Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun
(Manga)
add
Toilet bound Hanako Kun, adapted into anime in 2020 and since gained a cult following. Was the hype on this seemingly cutesy show worth it? Yes.
I am only going to focus on the Manga, but give the anime a go if you don't favor the idea of sitting through many chapters. Oh boy, lots to unpack right here. The story was great, amazing, and the art is an absolute blessing to view. The characters were incredibly well built and I enjoyed this manga, though it is not finished. Let's get on to the main part of what makes shows unique, the story. It starts as ... |
