i'm waiting for the eclipse fansubs, so i haven't seen 18 yet.
everyone who's here probably knows the most basic plot of the story (who watches season two before one anyway?)
first of all, R2 happens a year after the first season. we were all left hanging then, weren't we? but because i don't like spoiling people, my review is going to be pretty limited on the details.
well, Sunrise is back, with more extreme mecha, and definitely more action than before. the characters we love (and those we love to hate) are also back with a vengeance.
we have new plot twists and sometimes confusing plot holes. but
...
none so great the mecha fall through them.
what i like about code geass is that you never get outright good or bad characters (so like clamp, i keep thinking, even though they only designed the charas). you get a view of morality that so many other people nowadays do not see. there is no bad or good, there is only your perspective of bad and good. what is bad for you might be the exact opposite for another person. (take a.. real life war going on right now which i will not name for political reasons, but nevertheless will say that i am against.)
in code geass, we delve into the psyche of the characters, what makes them tick, what motivates them, what is their passion for doing what they're doing now (and i assure you there are plenty of revelations here!)
in season 1, lelouch's motivation was pretty simple. destroy britannia, avenge mummy, and make nunnally a new happy world from scratch.
but what about in R2? like it or not, he's bound to become attached to the otbk. will he abandon them once he accomplishes his agenda? will THEY abandon him if they realize he's really a britannian prince? what about his brothers and sisters? his father? what about suzaku?? and worse, nunnally?
his world has now expanded from just revolving around revenge, suzaku and nunnally, to include his ashford friends and the otbk.
what if accomplishing his goals means abandoning everything he cares about? what are his goals? are they still the same ones he had before?
and lastly, what is CC's wish?
code geass r2 answers those questions.
from the looks of it, this season is probably going to be the last. better grab your copy now before the seeds disappear, lol.i'm having trouble finding seeds for season 1 (i only have gg fansubs and they won't play on my dvd player).
but if you ask me, this is definitely one worth watching. and when i finally achieve my dream of learning japanese and go to japan, i will most definitely buy an original copy. if it's still there (D:)
on the fansubs page, i think eclipse is the best. no offense to others, but this is the only one that can play directly in my dvd player (an actual one so i can watch it on tv), so it's the one i get.

rg veda is a classic. it's not as well known to today's younger generation of manga fans, but those who have read it never forgot it.
it is one of clamps earliest works, and its first major work.
and what a story they have spun! gods and goddesses, war, forbidden love, betrayal, loyalty and trust. unfulfilled desires and hidden wishes.
love that spans across centuries. characters who have sold their souls for their wishes. characters who have all but died from the loss of their love.
the first few volumes are a little confusing, since clamp has a tendency of introducing several characters at a time, but
...
once you get past the first four (or less), you will find yourself drawn into the story like never before.
you will be mesmerized, i assure you.
this has themes of shounen-ai (the ones labeled androgynous still look like men, albeit very pretty boys),and shoujo ai, so those with squicks, you have been warned.
but this is clamp, and if you like their other series you must not mind it, ne? i myself, find their standard, that love transcends without discrimination, that love is between souls and things like gender are made inconsequential, very, very romantic.

tsubasa reservoir chronicles can be considered one of the most EPIC crossover series to date.
it is clamp's latest work, along with xxxholic (w/c is also amazing, btw). the two stories are connected, and although either can stand alone as its own series, it is also recommended that you read both to completely understand the story.
the opening plot is simple: the princess sakura has lost her memories and it is syaoran's task to get them back. along with a ninja who wants only to return home, and a mage who wishes never to go back (plus mokona, of course), they undertake the journey of
...
a lifetime. on the way, they meet different people (some very familiar to us - especially those who are avid fans of clamp), and experience different things.
but as you immerse yourself deeper into the plot, it suddenly becomes more than a simple adventure story: it becomes the manifestation of all of the themes clamp has made their own: the strength of wishes, the bonds that can form between people, and the power of the deepest kind of love. Of how there can be no such thing as coincidence, only hitsuzen.
the art is simple and yet elegant, and of course, completely original. their bodies may not be perfectly proportioned (a common complaint) - but one can say that it is their signature style. one look and you can definitely identify it as a work of clamp.
there are four main characters (mentioned in the summary), aided by Yuuko, our beloved space-time witch (see xxxholic). some start off as no more than selfish brats, and others are so completely selfless they disregard themselves entirely. there are no mary sues (nor gary stus) in this series - each character has their own flaw, their own imperfections. every one of them is pained by the past.
and as they go along their journey, they grow up - are influenced by each other, and grow stronger as a result. i love how each of them faces their past and destroys the chains that bind them.
i loved the manga - the anime, not so much, except for the ova (see tokyo revelations), w/c was great, and stuck true to the manga plot.
at this point part of me wants to know how it ends (it is now at its last arc); the other half of me wants it to go on forever.
this series is brilliant - clamp never fails to amaze me - and i would definitely recommend it to those who would enjoy a heart-thrilling, mind-bending tale of adventure, magic and love.
i guarantee that this is one series that you will always remember.
