Hey, do you have a Discord or Reddit or Instagram by any chance? I'm more active on those than MAL in case you want to keep talking on there.

hey! i'm so sorry for the super late reply once again. I got caught up in irl stuff and I've just been so busy lately. I'm not watching much anime aside from the 3 seasonals I picked up.

I'm glad you liked Greatest Hits! I discovered that song so randomly but it made me think of the convo we had about art pop. Have you also heard some of Grimes' earlier music? I listened to Geidi Primes a while back and while the majority of the album isn't that good, two of the tracks on there are amazing (Rosa & Avi). I think you'd really like them :)

I totally agree with your thoughts on Bebop, it's unassuming while still being very profound. All the character arcs are well-written and everything feels quite organic despite being a sci-fi anime. The ending is bittersweet like you mentioned, when you get wrapped up in your own narrative it's easy to lose sight of what's important (and what you actually cared about in the first place). "You're gonna carry that weight" is the perfect phrase to describe that dichotomy.

In terms of seasonals, I'm just watching the new MHA season, Spy x Family, and Chainsaw Man. I was also planning on watching Mob Pyscho but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Since HxH is back I started reading it again and I haven't been watching that much anime in general. I actually have a few shows that I was supposed to finish months ago that I should prioritize before I start anything new ~~

You're welcome, of course! I'm glad to hear that things are going better for you. And thank you, as well! I will keep that in mind. And yep, hopefully my health continues to improve; I plan to visit the doctor soon to see if we can sort things out for good. Ah thanks, did you celebrate Halloween?

For real. A friend of mine really likes Jujutsu Kaisen and he wants me to check it out, so hopefully I like it, lol. There were these two I liked that came out more recently called Phantom Seer and Candy Flurry, but they both got cancelled after only a few chapters. T_T It's like all of the ones that interest me get cancelled, lol. And that's a fair point too, lol.

Exactly!! Yeah, I think a bittersweet first love story could make for something really good, although sad, but I just didn't get that vibe from the story of Daytime Shooting Star, I guess? Like, I felt more like her and the teacher were supposed to wind up together and we were kind of supposed to be watching the story of who they do so, rather than that they don't, idk. Lmao yeah, I wonder what the body count will be at the end of it, lol.

Yes, exactly! Even in more fantasy or magical types of stories, I still want the characters themselves to be believable and have relatability to them. It just helps me get into the series more. It really is! It's so stressful like, girl just make up your mind!!! Lol. Although I understand that situations like that can be really confusing and stressful in real life, as a viewer who ships the main girl with one of the guys in specific, it can be soooo frustrating watching a whole episode or something that's centered around another ship. I start to lose hope, lol.

Yeah, I realized I have a harder time relating to male characters, although it's not impossible, I guess it's just 'cause I have a female's perspective on things, you know? But yeah, they definitely do exist, or ones that are more so on a neutral ground like Horimiya, where you kind of get it from both the boy and girl's perspectives a lot, but my favorites tend to be the ones centered around the girl. And yeah exactly, it's nice for boys to be able to relate to Shoujo too, if they like the genre especially.

Exactly! And honestly, from my experience, that does seem to be the case. Although yeah, some women authors write mediocre male characters, and some men authors write amazing female characters, I often find female characters written by men to be extremely one dimensional and poorly written for the most part, especially in Shounen or action series, but even in Shoujo series too, like how we're talking about with all the -dere types. But either way yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing more of those so long as the characters are really creative and interesting. Omg, I understand that completely. I couldn't even begin to imagine how hard it must be to be in love and turned down because they love someone else, so my heart does go out to characters in that position, lol. And yeah, I guess if it works for that audience, then it's alright, but in that case, there just needs to be more reverse harems as a whole for people like us!

Yeah, that's true, I think it helps to rest. And yep lol, although sleeping when I'm sick can be extremely difficult sometimes if I have trouble breathing, oof. But yeah! My dreams have been pretty interesting lately, so hopefully they stay that way. And yep, fixing sleep schedules can be quite the hard thing to do, lol.

Absolutely no problem! I hope things turn around for the better for you, too! If you ever wanna talk about it, I'd be happy to listen, but no pressure, you don't have to either! Sorry it took me a while to get back to you this time, I was actually out sick for the past few days 'cause of some ongoing health issues, oof. I'm feeling a little better now, though.

Ooh, I wanna check out those ones, too! They're on my to-watch list, lol. But oh, that's a good point, I've always been more of a fan of Seinen than of Shounen to begin with. I've looked at Mob Psycho and Jujutsu Kaisen myself, but they didn't really catch my eye. I think a manga/anime requires good character designs and art to capture my attention, and I feel like they were lacking in that area, lol. For real though, if there were some good new Shounen, it's not like I wouldn't be down for it. I am less interested in the concept as a whole now than I used to be, but if I got another one that hit me like Naruto or Bleach, I'd still like to read it. As long as it doesn't end poorly, of course, lol.

Yessss, omg, I am still so sad that they didn't end up together. T_T Their chemistry was great and it just made for a really interesting story. I agree the guy she ended up with wasn't a bad character or anything, and at least it was an obvious love interest from the start, but damn, that doesn't really make it any better, lol. She had to end up with the teacher, there was no other right option! Ugh, it still hurts... Lmao yep, hopefully you like it if you do check it out. The sequel is going okay so far, just curious to see how many more people die by the end of it, lmao.

Yes, absolutely! Lol yeah, I think it's a good thing when I can feel the way the characters are feeling nonetheless, shows the story and characters are well-written, believable, and relatable too! And that's 100% true, sometimes if I'm a little bit interested to see what happens, typically regarding one particular character or characters, but if the rest of the story or characters doesn't interest me, I'll just spoil what happens with those individual things I'm curious about. And that's a good point, too! As long as I know they wind up together in the end, it'll be a lot less frustrating seeing all of the other ship teases and moments in between, lol. I swear, sometimes those moments make me want to drop the series altogether and I just lose hope that my ship will ever sail, lol.

Yes, exactly! You make perfect points! I agree, I'm not as engaged in Shoujo from the guy's point of view. I guess I find that a lot of the fun in Shoujo is it being centered around the girl, what she's like, what her problems are, etc. Maybe it's just because I'm a girl so I often relate more to the girl characters, so if guys preferred Shoujo from the guy's perspective it wouldn't surprise me, because I find a lot of enjoyment out of relatability in a character, particularly the main character that the story is centered around!

Omg yes! I honestly can't think of a reverse-harem that relies so heavily on the -dere tropes. Like, they all have different personalities, but like, that's a good thing! Lol, the point is to have different personalities, it's just annoying when the whole of their personalities are based around a -dere type. Oooh, I'm gonna have to check that one out now, let me look! And yessss, Kiss Him Not Me did an amazing job! All of the characters were actually really unique, and you really couldn't fit them into a -dere type or many other stereotypes for that matter, they were all really interesting characters I hadn't seen before. And I agree 100%, I much prefer reverse-harems and feel like the anime world could benefit more from it opposed to regular harems, honestly. I think they just view normal harems as the easy way to go, since they can rely on the different -dere types and it's been done so many times before already.

Lol yeah, it's still been true for the most part. I actually overslept today and slept the majority of the time when I was sick, lmao, so I guess that counts for something. Ooh, I'm glad to hear your sleep has been better and you've been remembering your dreams more, too! And actually same for me, that's so weird, I've been remembering my dreams a lot more too. Hopefully it stays this way!
Haaruukaa Oct 17, 2022 4:15 PM
It's no problem at all! I understand if you got other things going on in your life. And honestly, I'm just the same, I don't like replying to people when there's a lot on my mind because I can't give them a proper response.

I knowwww, it happened with all of my favorite Shounen series, so same, at this point I just stay way from them, lol. At least until they're over, but honestly, there hasn't been any new Shounen series that I've been interested in to begin with. And yeah exactly, lol. The only Shoujo I can remember being devasted by its ending is Daytime Shooting Star because the ship I liked didn't go through. T_T Vampire Knight is the other one that had me scratching my head, although the ship did go through, he died and she got with the other guy afterward, but then he dies too, and then the girl dies in the end, lmfao, so it just seemed really sloppy and like the author was trying to satisfy everyone at the same time. It has a sequel series running right now, so maybe things will get better. Hopefully not worse, lol.

Thanks! And yeah, that's completely understandable. That's pretty much how I feel about Nisekoi, or at least the ending. I agree yeah, I loveeee drama, but it needs to make sense, lol. Omg, props to you on that, if a character is really embarrassing themselves, I get really embarrassed sometimes too, especially if it's a problem I can relate, lol. But at the same time I do find it really funny, so I don't mind. And yep, I don't think that's a problem at all. Like, don't spoil the entire thing, just let me know if they wind up together so that I don't waste my time reading it to begin with, lol.

I know, right? Yeah, it seems to be getting better with more modern anime, as least in Shoujo since that's the demographic I'm more familiar with. I guess unless it comes to harems. I'd honestly be more interested in a harem that doesn't just use the -dere types for all of the different characters. Like, make them all original characters, it's too predictable seeing the characters and being like, "Yep, that's the tsundere. Yep, that's the kuudere. Yep, that's the yandere," lol. And yeah true, I don't really get it. You have a good point, and I honestly think that's where a lot of the appeal and popularity of harem anime come from to begin with.

Thanks! Last night I uh, didn't get too great of sleep, but that was just a bad night! Lol. More recently I've been getting better sleep, so that's good. And I'm happy to hear that! I hope so, too. ^_^

yeah i totally agree with you! and i understand what you mean about art pop putting you at ease, it's such a versatile genre and it can evoke so many different feelings/vibes in me. i recently made an art pop playlist and it's interesting to see how differently it makes me feel depending on when i'm listening to it. incidentally, while i was finding songs to add to it, i came across this duo that i'd heard a bit about on twitter called jockstrap lol. have you heard of them? im not familiar with their discography but they dropped an art pop album this year, anyway, you should check out the song called "greatest hits" on that album, i think you'd like it.

bebop really is a gorgeous show. the ending was so melancholic, in fact the entire show had this underlying sense of melancholic existentialism. i really resonated with it, and i found each character's arc to be so beautifully poignant. "you're gonna carry that weight" still hits hard. it says so much with so little, and it encapsulates spike's inner conflict quite well.

yeah vinland is one of those shows that is great at keeping the viewer entertained. the story-telling is its strongest quality imo, i also can't wait until season 2 starts airing!!

are you gonna watch any seasonals this fall?
