Easily my favorite anime of all time. Watched every single episode for at the very least 5 times since middle school. Bought the full blu-ray after moving to Japan. The ending for the whole series was dragged too long but idc. There will not be another anime or TV show or entertainment in general that is similar to Gintama in any way.
Gintama is the most unique anime. It stirs up your emotions so fkin much that most fans cried and laughed simultaneously in countless episodes. This alone is an attribute that most other animes do not have. Gintama teaches you what life is, covering
...
so many different life issues through exaggeration and seriousness and tears and joys in so many different but highly interesting ways that I simply cannot forget any episode in Gintama with ease.
Gintama portrayed each side character so well it is like Witcher 3 in games if you know what I mean. In Witcher 3 the side missions are actually fun and worth doing because they portrayed those side characters in such a detailed but not tedious way as if they were part of the main. This is exactly what happened with Gintama as well. Not just the major side characters. Even side characters that appeared for only 1 or 2 episodes were interesting. e.g., Nakamura Kyoujirou, Kameyama Duuke, etc. Every single side character is unique and vibrant and charming in their own way.
Gintama is most famous not for the main storyline but actually for the nichijou part (i.e., the side stories or just no story at all). I especially love the Hot Pot episode (an extremely hilarious way of portraying Death Note) and the Madao & Daigoro episode (an extremely sad and realistic story of the life and values of a homeless person). This is extremely rare in not just animes but also TV shows where people would just wait for the main storyline to come back. NO, Gintama fans would rather want the side stories to keep going and going for eternity.
Gintama is a mixture of comedy, tragedy, fighting, life lessons, sarcasm, kindness, empathy, inspirations, and pure joy.
Gintama does not have to be rated as the top 1 anime ever, but Gintama deserves to be the most unique anime ever.
Gintama is not for everyone. To assess whether or not you would enjoy Gintama, start by watching Episode 25. If you like it, you can watch Gintama. If you hate it, you will not enjoy Gintama.

We need to talk about hypes and expectations.
I remember back when Violet Evergarden was so hyped in the community that everyone expected it to be pure perfection. When it came out, people started nitpicking and looked at every single detail just to prove their point that "no this is not as good as the hype says".
This is exactly what is happening to CSM.
Every single anime has flaws objectively, and every single person has very different tastes in almost every aspect in life. Games, anime, movies, food, drinks, etc. It is without a doubt that an anime will be hated by some people and liked by
...
others at the same time. The hypes always ruin the anime reviews because there will always be nitpicking caused by the high expectation, and such nitpicking will inevitably lead to an underachieved performance in user reviews and ratings.
Now back to CSM. I read the manga, but I view manga and anime separately. Anime can stick to manga strictly, or it can be completely different from the original manga. As long as it is good i dont really care. Some people nitpicked the anime for not sticking to manga and making massive modifications, while some people appreciated those modifications. idc.
Is CSM anime good? Yes. The storytelling was very smooth and easily alluring. The graphics were top-tier (as always mappa is God). The fighting scenes were okay. Not for everyone's taste but it was okay. The VAs were amazing. Again, some people were not happy with the VAs because they did not act up to their expectations. There are things that some people do not like in this anime, but certainly not severe issues that will drag the anime score to below 8. It is a very well-presented anime, and it is up to your subjective opinion whether it lived up to the hype. For me it did. I am not happy with some of the fight scenes either, but overall it was excellent.

Most fans know that the manga storyline sucked. What's worse, they probably aren't planning to change the storyline in anime.
HOWEVER, the production team did such an incredible job that you simply cannot give this anime a bad rating given this level of animation, graphics, atmosphere, temper, narration, and expression. Storyline aside, this is no doubt an 11/10 masterpiece. Not a single detail was imperfect. Even if the storyline is taken into account, the production team clearly expressed this story in the best way possible so that the story does not look as bad as it was in manga years ago.
Like, I do not even know
...
what else to write. Perfection is perfection.
I do hope Kubo changes the ending in anime tho cuz it was literally a turn-off for most bleach fans.

Pros:
- top-tier art style and animation. most definitely the best animation of the entire season. theres not a single second where the animation went wrong, and you can truly see how serious and hardworking the staff are. in fact this is the single biggest drawer for most fans.
- yuri girls with visible characteristics, especially the portrait of chisato's characteristics is masterpiece. she is like fujiwara chika who easily impress most watchers with their strongly unique personalities. fans are here for this.
Cons:
- storyline is really just meh. it is a mixture of new innovations and cliche, but it is so far not really an interesting
...
story. fans are mostly just here to watch yuri reactions, which leads to the second point,
- feels like forced yuri reactions. the character development of chisato is indeed wonderful, but not the case for takina. her character development feels rushed, lack of progress, and lack of details. Just one hug from chisato is enough to change takina's cool cold-blooded personality? A real person's personality shouldnt be altered that easily. The "sakana" moment wouldve been much funnier and more natural if chisato did it, but instead takina did it, which just doesnt feel natural. Takina can indeed grow into a much more open person who would do the "sakana" thing, but it shouldve taken much more time and interactions for her to transform from a cool badass to a funny girl. It is a bit too fast.
