Hotarubi no mori e is a very touching film. It's not quite a movie, it's only 40 minutes long but through great storytelling it doesn't feel like 40 minutes long at all.
This film has light romance and showcases rural japanese culture. The romance is really light and pure, good to show to kids and all ages. A romantic relationship that isn't reliant on touching each other yet deep and passionate is more refreshing than one might think. A lesson society might have to learn one day.
The soundtrack is really beautiful, I loved it. There are many peaceful sounds, whimsical sounds, playful sounds and many more.
...
it really builds the atmosphere and mood of the scene. I felt at peace when watching this film.
Because the film was short, the ending felt as if it left me wounded, it was a short and sudden ending. Even though around the end I knew it had to end soon, I couldn't prepare myself. I remember watching this for the first time and feeling utter shock when the credits rolled with a sad tune.
I wish the story could had elaborated on fleshing out the characters though, they felt like real people... but very simplistic people, I felt as if I didn't know them much throughout the whole film.
I totally recommend this to the family. Hotarubi no Mori e has teaches great morals while it entertains all ages.
