I have settled with a nine instead of a ten for this first season. This leads me to the only problem I had with the season at all, which is that sometimes most of the action would happen in the first third of the episodes. This left the last 2/3 of some of the episodes trailing a bit. However, I loved every other aspect of this season, from the buddy comedy, but serious at times, relationship between Reno and Kafka, to the amazing animation and score, and finally the political overtone. The characters are likable in all their own rights with

plenty of room for development. I always like when the supporting characters have depth and their own side relationships with each other, that just simply build the universe and make it feel more lived in. The animation is obviously top tier! The bright and shocking (lightning like) colors used when Kafka, as Kaiju No. 8, is punching anything, or likewise when Mina is blowing it the hell up. I also enjoyed the smoothness and well choreographed close range fight scenes, such as the one between the Vice Captain and Kafka, or the fantastic final fight! The music, be it sometimes heavy in the western influence, fit perfectly to the tone of the show with Kafka being in his 30s and the general melancholic yet action packed vibe of the universe. The final point in me enjoying the show so much was the political commentary it provides on ideas such as nuclear weapons and the balance of making sure your people are safe, while also acting on the world stage. I am excited where this story could go, and I believe I am going to start the manga!
