In general, i do not know why this manga has not more feedback. This should have been a widelly read work, becuase it is artistically excelent; intellectually excelent too. I can get one thing that people may not like; this manga does not do favors to the fans; there is no plot armor at all, and at first, i did not appreciate it (once rafael dies, after you start liking him and start feeling you will go to the big journay with him, you get then indroduced to some people you do not know, only for the same proccess to repeat). Anyways lets go

piece by piece.
ART: I personally did not like the art that much. Too simplistic, but you still could make out different characters from their faces and not hair style. If the reader expects to see beautifull art, this wont cut it, most of the art here is drawn as simplistically as possible. The drawings arent the subject here, it is clear the writer invested more on the story and the feelings he wanted to convery to the reader throught dialogue. In this sense, the story and dialogue over-conmpensates for the art. All in all, i would put the art a good 7.
STORY: This is the strong part of this work. The story. The writer manages to build it up, with you being hooked, and hoping anyone from the original crew would survive, with none surviving. They all die out, one by one, but as Rafael says to Novak at the end of the story "We all have been cooperators in this". This is the feeling this manga wants to convey; the feeling of belonging to something big. This is a manga about people who mostly fight for their own individual porpuses, ending up nonetheless sacrificing themselves for a greater porpuse, and contributing to the knowledge we have today. The writer is also not a chauvinist in the sense that the intellectuals of this story are only the intellectuals; it starts and ends with intellectuals indeed, but the main protagonists of the story are not at all intellectuals; it is terrorists, mercenaries, defectors from the system and gipsies. The arcs of the intellectuals (basically, rafal and albert) compromise not more than 10 chapters from the 62. It can easelly be said that 90% of the story is the writer telling you that every human being, if so they desire, can be an intellectual in equal footing with the top of society who produce the mainstream intellectuals. The concept of revolution and theology is importand here. What is also importand is that the writer really, really did do so much work and reading and thought before writing this, so much philoshophical and historical dialogue, and for things far from his japanese society too. One can appreciate that the writer was not at all lazy in this work. All in all, the story gets a 10
CHARACTERS: As it is being said above, if you are here looking to identify with a character throught all the story, you are wrong. There is not a single main character here being an idealized version of the 'good guy'; not only this, there is no plot armor for them. They all end up getting what they would get in real life, outside of plot armors. This is becuase the characters are only engines for the meaning of the story the writer wants to tell, and by them passing the way they pass, the feeling that all this, our world, is not the work of 'great men' or a single man, but throught the work of generations and generations (remiding our foolish generation that thinks we are 'smarter' than the 'idiotic' ancestors) that we see high, becuase we are stepping in the shoulders of giants. Nonetheless, there is character development, which makes the story even better; when the characters die, you feel sad. I dare say, all can identify, becuase the characters are just so real, from the first to the last. Rafal was an elitist bastard who wanted to make people work for him and exploit them, yet, while his desire started from his individualism, he growed to embrace the whole, and came to understand himself as part of the bigger picture. Not only this, but rafal ended up dying for his convictions. The reader may think that this was all for nothing, but 10 years later, it seems that two random mercenaries, with one being a little interesting in astrology, and the other not being able to look the beauty stars out of his shame that he is so filthy (he kills people for money after all), and not even being able to read, by luck find out his legacy. The story begins again, and mercenary oczy with the help of monk rebel badeni continiue what rafal left unfinished. Oczy is basically the protagonist of this story; he has the biggest character development, and it is his book that links the past, present and future. Next up, we have a group of revolutionary terrorists lead by Oczy's former friend, and a captain named Schmitt trying to find Oczy's lost book where the theory of the earth moving has been written in a simple manner for mass consuption so everyone can understand it, and then next we have draka's arc, where a gipsy tries to become a big time capitalists ends up abandoning all this for the sake of the 'greater whole'. The last thing she does is send a message about the book, which by sheer luck, Albert Brudzewski hears the title off (the only thing that survived from the work), and starts thinkng about this theory seriously. Then, he teaches Copernicus, and we have the copernecian revolution. All in all, 10 here too.
Overall score, 10.

I do not know why this has only 6.9 rating, i think it should have at least 7.5. Art is good, story is good and deep enough to keep the reader hooked. Anyways, this review may contain some very minor spoilers.
Art: the art is very good. It is realistic too, and one can see the differences in characters by their faces, and even guess their races (whites look whites, asians look asians e.t.c). My only problem with the art was the appearance of the wolves. Many times they are shown, the art is too moody, not so clear, which makes it irritating, at least for ... May 2, 2023

Spoilers alert: I do not know why this manga has such a low rating. I understand that it starts differently and ends differently, but i do not know why this makes the manga bad. Lets take it one by one
Art: While the art style is not my thing, it was a good art. The placement of the apperance of the kudan was also done greatly, and at some times the kudan could give one shivers. Story and characters: Well, i can understand one thing from the other reviews, and that is that people make a distinction between the first and the second half of the manga. ... May 1, 2020
Ok, note that i rarely write reviews. I got this manga recommended afrer reading hitsuji no uta. I did not expect anything good, for two reasons.
1)I had read the authors two previus works, aku no hana and mari. While aku no hana ranked as mediocrite to me, mari ranked better in my opinion. 2)It was a vampire manga. Not that i have anything against the gender, simple i dont consider it the best medium for masterpieces. Alas i was wrong. This manga is a masterpiece. From the characters, to the story, adn at some cases even the drawing. SPOILERS ALERT FROM HERE ON So, lets start from the ... Aug 1, 2018
One word:Epic. Not too much character development aside from Oyaji, but what did you expect, its only 25 chapters. Its a great short story, realistic, telling us about the real world, the filth, the worker class people and their everyday struggle to survive. A man who deply loves his family and who would do anything for them, a kindhearted man, that looks like a bear. And with a backround not so healthy, wet, he managed to become a real family man and protector. 10\10 overall, if someone wants to read a heartwarming story, not romantic shit, but realistic hard life, its it worth spending
