11eyes is what i'd call for now a "victim anime" those kind of shows that try too hard to please everyone with combinations of action, fanservice and a strong plot, but ultimately end up being lackluster in everything...
-> The story is about a parallel dimension ("Red Moon Night") and some highschool students who entered on this zone for some strange reason. They all have special powers, and in the Red Moon Night dimension they fight against the Black knights, this is the basic premise of the show.
-> Later, while remaining kinda episodic with the Red Moon events, the plot gets some twists and gets deeper,
...
involving more and more stuff and relating it with the premise with the purpose of having a strong, complex show.
-Overall, the plot isn't really bad and the twists, although predictable, conserve some logic, but there are plotholes, and big ones.. In fact, when analyzing the plot you get absolutely no reason of why the students were forced to enter the "Red Moon Night" on the first place, therefore nullifying the premise, and of course, eventually all the story, it just doesn't make sense once you get all the pieces.
-> The art and sound of 11eyes was pretty decent in my opinion and a strong quality of this show, both the art and sound helped to get into the "Dark" environment that the Red Moon Night was supposed to be, with some graphic violence here and there to make the things more impressive. It works, and it works well, so no complaints here
-> 11eyes also tries to have action and romance, but in both aspects failed miserably, on "action" there isn't much scenes worth of mentioning, and worse yet, what could have been the best scenes, are either cut to continue the story in another place, or never happen. To avoid the spoilers i will just say "The ultimate battle is something you don't watch"
->The romance is basically a jealous driven love triangle between Yuka, Kakeru and Misuzu, the 3 main characters, but the problem here is Yuka becomes an extremely awkward character, ruining everything (and serving as a lame trigger to the situation of the final episodes). As for Misuzu, she spends more time dealing with her own feelings instead of competing for Kakuro, and worse, Kakuro was never doubtful.. So in the end you have an awkward character resulting from an imaginary, and ergo, no romance
-> The last major problem of 11eyes resides on character development, because as soon as Kakeru "awakens" his power the rest of the cast slowly becomes less and less relevant.. The show also gets "deus ex machina" at times, maybe because the show wasn't clearly enough with the concept of "dimensions"...
In conclusion, 11eyes left a bittersweet taste because it had the potential to become something awesome but it just doesn't, still as i said earlier, the plot doesn't fall into complete nonsense and you can actually get some enjoyment from it, i did, at least for the first half of the anime.
Story 6/10
Art 8/10
Sound 9/10
Character 4/10
Enjoyment 5/10
Overall 6/10
You should see at least: Hmm, since in my opinion the "Red Moon Night" becomes episodic, then if you find it dreadful at the 4th episode you should stop, but if you don't, continue until the end, and enjoy the coherent with the plot but ridiculous final 2 episodes :D
And that's it, another review.. not much anime for me atm (exams week) but maybe i'll review a "classic" next..
Good luck y'all and be happy, because Hikikomori is now an Oxford dictionary entry :D

"Angel Beats! was almost a masterpiece, in fact, it was very close"
-> After Kanon, Air and Clannad, you know exactly what to expect from a "Key" Visual novel adaptation: outstanding art + great sound, so i'm not going to bother you all talking about how great it is, i just will tell you that this consistency found on "Key" adaptations mantains, and now for the important part:
- "Afterlife" shows are full of potential, it allows you to create your own worlds with your own rules and use that as a support to develop the story, a single glance at how different Haibane Renmei (which
...
i've already watched) and AB! are, yet how they keep exactly the same premise tell us a lot about this potential. In the case of AB! this is shown both in action and comedy, where the "beyond world" rules let the character respawn, making deaths something hilarious instead of dramatic, other examples can be found, but that would be spoiler
- We have Otonashi Yuzuru, a guy who finds himself suddenly on this world (a school) without memories, and joins the Shinda Sekai Sensen [Rebels against the god], a squad which, interestingly enough, doesn't try to find the way to leave, but fight for staying on this world.. Their enemy is Tenshi from the student council, because whoever listens to her and acts properly in the school dissapears.
-> In the SSS members stories, we find a good reason for them to want to fight, and as a well donel "afterlife" show, it explores the subjects of god, life purpose (why to stay) and death (or dissapearing). The story later changes with some plot twists and with the correct triggers (some are just perfect) and the mix of characters makes watching this a fun and enjoyable ride.. The ending is unexpected, though
- And why it was just close of being a masterpiece? because of details, or to explain myself better, the lack of them. Some changes in the plot are understandable, but at times the series rushes and changes too fast and what is worse, leaves things unexplained, this hurts the story a lot because at times there just isn't a link between the events and doesn't let you wondering "How did it happen?" but more like "What? something is missing here"
- The second problem with AB! are the characters, sure, they are mixed, not so predictable and the main ones have really solid backstories, but the problem is secondary ones barely had any, they were treated like NPCs at the end, something i feel is as unfair as they think god was to them at the beginning of the series.. My fav character dies first too, but that's a personal rant ¬¬
Bottomline, it has it's flaws, but it's a fun, enjoyable ride and something i'd recommend to watch. The funny thing is that maybe if AB! was a bit longer it could have made the pieces fit perfectly and achieve a masterpiece status, or at least that's what i think

Let's now recall why Serial Experiments Lain stands as my favourite anime ever (not that i watched much, to be honest)
-> If there's one true thing about everything you've heard of this series, is the fact that Lain isn't your common show, It doesn't focus on things such as character development or plot, and instead decides to go analyzing diverse aspects related primarily with communication and technology (A.K.A the internet, or "the Wired" as they call it). In fact, the only coherent part of the plot of this series is this: Lain gets a computer and starts knowing about "The wired", everything else from there
...
on can be considered screwed up, or a masterpiece, depending of how you take it
- So it's difficult to rate the story because there's just too much stuff there that can't be related directed to the plot directly, but it serves to explore deeper into the topics at hand: Still, many would feel it's just pure nonsense.
-> The Art and sound are maybe the best things on SEL, because the simpleness of it really makes an impact of the "weird" factor, dialog lines are lacking, and the art at many times is so simple but it makes the job so well, Duvet by Boa is a song i truly love, and it sets the mood perfectly for this kind of show, and as usual, Yoshitoshi ABe's style is outstanding.
- Now for the characters, just one protagonist, Lain, the one who experiments 99% of the situations on the show, a shy, introverted person which finds in the Wired enough confidence to the point of developing a new personality (Sounds familiar?), and that's as spoiler-ish as i will get.. The rest of the characters aren't even secondary, they are just triggers that allow the diverse situations to flow in a not so nonsensical manner.. In other words, they are only there to serve as a reason of why Lain became the way she becomes and why she acts like she does.
-> Maybe the biggest flaw in Lain is that is extremely indirect, it will not tell you how Lain deals with the situations in her head ala Evangelion, nor will show you directly what the purpose of the story is ala Elfen Lied.. That's why it may appear as pure BS to a lot of people, but i suggest you give it a try, because for me it definitely was something that trascended typical anime, and even typical TV, it was a thought provoking and really interesting visual essay.
Story: 8/10
Art- Sound: 10/10
Character: 9/10
Enjoyment: 10/10
Overall: 10/10
You should see at least: This one is hard, and if you go through 3 episodes (layers) and find yourself boring to death maybe you should stop, but if you're just scratching your head trying to grasp what is happening move on. Layer 05 is where the fun starts though :D
So there it is, a review of my favourite anime, something i think everyone should do sometime. I promise more recent stuff (is already there) but for now please bear with me reviewing things i wanted to since long ago, thanks for reading and have a nice day

- "This anime is ridiculous"
It's tragic, it's twisted and has maybe the best end i've ever seen in an anime, but it isn't psychological, please stop saying that. Now alllow me to explain:
-> School Days is about a love triangle. Starts with Makoto, a shy guy who finds attracted to a girl named Katsura and with help from Sekai, his classmate, he manages to talk to her and start a relationship.. Everythingl good until there, but there are lots of plot twists, and things suddenly go in an unpredictable way ending with tragedy ala some Shakespeare novel. Sounds good right?
- But wait, some of the
...
so called plot twists make you enter in despair and hate almost every character, specially the male protagonist [Makoto], who is a weird mix between a shy, indecisive person and a sex hungry animal that somehow manages to get 90% of the cast to sleep with him. See? Ridiculous
-> This anime shows us a good amount of dramatic cases in a relationship, the lack of decision to move on, how uncomfortable can be dealing with situations when you no longer love a person but don't wanna hurt him/her, the "denial" syndrome, and the thin line existing between love and obsession, very deep.
- Still, something didn't make this series enjoyable, and i'm not talking about the despicable characters, i'm referring to certain cases in which you just couldn't believe how nonsensical the situation was.. Chapter 11 is maybe the perfect example, but there are quite a few spread over there. This situations ruined what could have been a very good tragedy story, and turned it up into a ridiculous one.. Moreover, the "normal" parts of this show adopt a soap opera style, something which honestly bored me to death.
** I'm not a person who demands a lot about the art and sound, so i found them right, although the animation maybe was a bit subpar considering the date of release.. The sound blends well, that means it does the job perfectly.
So in conclusion, this is a hit or miss show, ones may be fascinated by the unpredictability on the story and for some of the characters' personality, and others may feel disgusted or even sad to see how unreal this so called "psychological" tale can become.. For me it was a miss, i expected a lot of this show and ended up being dissapointed.. oh well, that happens.
Story: 2/10
Sound: 8/10
Art: 6/10
Character: 3/10
Enjoyment: 2/10
Overall: 4/10
You Should See At Least: 5 episodes, from there and if you have read any synopsis you can pretty much tell how the story will turn out to be, also you can get a grasp of the "hate" factor if you reach there
And that's all from me, first review.. i don't know, i just felt like writing one :)
Thanks for reading!
