Being a musician through and through, as well as a longstanding anime watcher, Carole & Tuesday was very special to me. While there were obvious flaws in production and story, the overall enjoyment for the show never really dropped throughout the episodes.
One aspect I like in anime in general is, how over-the-top it can present itself and its characters and still anchor itself in the reality we all live in. Something that is very very hard to pull off with real actors and typical hollywood production.
This show threw a mix of subtle jabs at the modern music industry, as well as problems in our

current society into one big pot of 24 episodes. Especially after living through 2020, those seemed to be more relevant than ever. The art and animation was fitting and most of the time well made, although you could see that probably most of the focus and budged had been poured into another department: the sound.
I really don't care for most of mainstream music in real life. It's bland, predictable, shallow and seemingly out-of-touch with its lyrics. That I feel the show captured perfectly. It really doesn't matter if it the song you're listening to on the radio is written by a human hand or artificial intelligence, it stays algorithmic all the same. Just when you step outside of the charts and latest hits, there's a vast landscape of talent, genres and history to be explored however you like. That exploration has always driven my own songwriting and production in all of my projects. This hasn't really been touched on in the anime itself, if anything it served as a comedic relief on a few occasions. But they have shown how success more often than not makes you complacent and how you never really reach the same level and feeling of your first garage band demos. Because that's when you poured your heart into it all, instead of money for the sake of staying relevant to the masses. The soundtrack for this anime was top-notch though (Ezekiel is my boy).
Inviting all kinds of musicians to represent the characters in the show has made it much more realistic and enjoyable to watch.
I really don't want to spoil anything that is happening in the show, so TLDR:
Carole and Tuesday gave a unique insight into the modern music industry, sometimes made fun of it, other times showed us the value of art that came from within our hearts. It had a fun and balanced cast of characters and even threw in some bits of relevant but worrysome aspects in our society as a whole. The only flaw I have with it is: it didn't djent enough.
I really recommend watching it.
