Temple (Manga) add
Preliminary (40/? chp)
I know a lot of folks are gunna draw parallels between this and Love Hina.

Here's the deal though:

1: This focuses on temple rites and rituals. Seems as though research has been done, so I'm learning as well as laughing.
2: Akemitsu has more of a personality than the Harem MC in Love Hina. Dude in that was just remarkably sturdy, which a lot of MC's usually are. Sadly, that's one of their few personality traits.

The story is a lot more straightforward in her than GBD. You have stakes and parameters to be met. Means that the jokes are a lot less, humorous this time ...

Black Torch (Manga) add
This book hit a nostalgia point for me. It channeled some serious Flame of Rekka energy, albeit less time travel and more monsters.

It was well paced and I enjoyed the dynamic of Jiro and Rago.

That said, the other characters felt a little on the bland side. I was hoping for more development of Reiji and Ichika. There was also a lack of escalation. The last guy felt like the final boss fight and it was already chapter 18/19.

I sincerely hope this creator gets another opportunity to make something cool. I'm gunna ...

Ayari, the one with the passion for cooking, spends the majority of the story opening up to people through her cooking and her "big" sister Sachi is trying to support her and also eat as much of her new sister's cooking as possible.

It's super wholesome and I also really like the fact that they include recipes if you want to have a crack at making your own. ...

Here's the deal.

Here you have a person who has essentially taken an arc of a show known for its poor character development, ruining a cool concept (Taking a sword to a gunfight is ridiculous. Don't @ me.) and has revamped it into something interesting.

The main character is interesting and likeable. She has goals and motivations and her ability to get along with people to get over her insecurities is fantastic. What's more...it doesn't feel like there's a major villain, but more a major rival, which is not often done.

I had a blast with the detail on the guns and the motivations of ...
