Tonikaku Kawaii is like a cup of hot chocolate on a rainy day. There's nothing special about it if you really think about it: the plot isn't particularly intriguing, the characters aren't exactly unique, and its themes and how the manga explores them are nothing close to thought-provoking or groundbreaking. Even the comedy, while entertaining, is nothing to write home about. In fact, I'd wager that anyone with at least a basic background in storytelling can make something similar and achieve a similar effect.
But the fact that, at least in my experience, no manga quite does the same (disappointingly, let's hope it sets a trend)
...
is what makes it noteworthy.
Tonikaku Kawaii is no masterpiece of a story, but the experience of it, the sight of Nasu and Tsukasa slowly falling more and more in love with each other, gives you a feeling of comforting warmth slowly making its way down your chest—nothing quite compares to that precious sensation. This is what you'll get with this manga. Vanilla romance (albeit slightly unrealistically portrayed, but who cares?) in its purest, most innocent form: endearing, cutesy, and wholesome, the manga offers you a simple, uncomplicated story that's, as the author himself puts it, "full of love."
It's a romantic haven from the mundanity of everyday life, the cesspit of widespread netorare, and other romances that beat around the bush too much. If you just want honest fluff and lovey-dovey stuff between two adorable characters, this is THE manga to read.
