FLCL is an OVA about a young boy named Naota and his misadventures with Haruko Haruhara, or as the kids at his school like to call her, "the Vespa woman". FLCL is definitely a fun series if you are looking for something funny and all over the place!
-- Story --
A lot of people will say that there isn't a story and that it doesn't make any sense, and that is true, but you just have to watch it a few times before you find the story and meaning to it. Everything is covered up with metaphors and underlying meaning, so you will have
...
to re-watch things multiple times to be able to understand it.
-- Art --
The art in this series is great! It can perfectly exaggerate the scenes without making it seem out of style like some anime can and will do. This series was made by Studio Gainax, who you may know from their anime, Evangelion. The art direction (for the most part) was done by a certain Hiroyuki Imaishi, whose name may not ring a bell, some anime he's worked on such as Kill la Kill, Gurren Lagann, and Panty and Stocking certainly will. He did a great job on the art for this series, as it perfectly fits the theme of the show!
-- Voice Acting and Soundtrack --
The voice acting in this series was greatly done! With voice actors, some were priorly famous, whilst some only ever worked on FLCL. Haruko's Voice Actor (Mayumi Shintai) did great on Haruko's voice, I think it fit her greatly! Naota and Mamimi's vocal castings were great as well!
The soundtrack, done by The Pillows, is also great. Even though this series doesn't have an opening theme, the music in it still plays a big role. The music always fits the series and the scenes where it is put into, and is one of the things that carries through to the crappy sequel series'.
-- Characters --
Naota, our protagonist, doesn't really stand out too much. The best way I can put him is "a romance anime protagonist, but younger and going through puberty.". I can usually remember a lot about protagonists, since they're the protagonist, but Naota never really stood out compared to the rest of the cast. His whole thing is "him being normal when everybody around him is weird.".
Mamimi, the smoker, has clinged to Naota after his brother, her ex-boyfriend, moved to the states to pursue a career in baseball. She is often seen playing her video game, and starts having what everybody thinks are hallucinations centered around the game.
Haruko, the weird lady on a vespa, is the center character of the show. She is often seen holding a blue bass guitar, and as seen as either "weird" or "sort of cute", depending on the person you ask. A lot of rumors are spread about her around Naota's school, such as "when she hit's you, she makes you do and say naughty things with her!", although none of those rumors were ever proved to be true by the kids at the school.
There's a lot of other great characters in this series, such as Amarao and Naota's family members, so you'll be in for a treat once you watch this!
-- overall --
Considering the fact that this is a show that people either love or hate, you definitely need to put your mind in a different viewpoint if you are a person who isn't into super artistic, mindboggles of anime, but I think it is worth a watch! Since the series is only 6 episodes, it makes for a great binge-watch and/or re-watch! It holds a nice spot in my heart and mind, and I think it should in yours as well, whether that means in a positive or negative way.

Ouran High School Host Club is a series with a loveable cast, great animation for its time, and a boatload of character development! and those few upsides are only a few of the reasons why I think that this series is one of the best rom-com anime out there.
-- Story -- -- This Section Contains Mild Spoilers!! --
The story was largely different than other romance anime at the time. Haruhi Fujioka, our protagonist, is a bright scholarship student, who got into the prestigious Ouran Academy, a school for only the richest living in Japan. When looking for a place to study,
...
when she opens the doors to Music Room #3, a room she assumes is an empty storage room, she's greeted by the Ouran Host Club, lead by Tamaki Suoh, as well as Kyoya Ootori, Mitsukuni (Honey), Morinozuka or "Mori", and the Hitachiin twins, Hikaru and Kaoru, where their job is to entertain the women of Ouran Academy, by flirting with them and serving up the finest teas, coffees, and desserts.
Whilst trying to leave the room, and go find somewhere else to study, Haruhi ends up breaking a vase that was worth ¥8,000,000, leaving her 8 million yen in debt to the host club. Since Haruhi comes from a middle-class family, she is not able to pay the money up-front to them, meaning that she gets to work with the host club to pay her debt back to them!
This storyline works really well since the host club is very close with one another, the times where they are together are not awkward in any way.
-- Art --
The art is great in this series, considering this series came out in 2006 (manga in 2003.), the art was very "ahead of it's time" I would say. The series was animated by Studio Bones, Known for series like Mob Psycho 100, Both Fullmetal Alchemist anime series, and Soul Eater, just to name a few, the studio behind Ouran has a very impressive catalog. The art in this series isn't an eye sore to look at, but it isn't so bland to the point where it doesn't look original at all.
-- Characters --
None of the characters in this series seem super stereotypical or one-dimensional, as I've noticed most rom-com characters are. All of the characters in this series have lots of development and at one point or another, you can always sympathize for each character in the cast. The only problem I have with the characters is some of the dialogue they have, Tamaki has said an offensive slur at least once, as well as Hikaru and Kaoru just having questionable dialogue in general.
-- Overall --
Overall, I really liked this series. It definitely isn't a 10/10 (at least in my opinion.) due to some of the dialogue, but I still think that it is worth watching. The characters are great, as well as the plot and the animation.
