I’m sorry. I did as I was told, and tried not to compare this to the original Madoka. I went into this show knowing this wasn’t going to be as much of a masterpiece but I didn’t realize how confusing this would be. Thought the original Madoka was confusing? Well, at least I knew the characters. In the first season there was a point where I legitimately thought I missed and episode. Now, maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention as I do watch anime at the gym most of the time, but I was so confused when Iroha moved. Where did her parents go? When
...
did she move?
Now that is my issue with season one, so shouldn’t be applied here. However there is one issue that is a part of both seasons: the characters. Why do half the characters look the same? I got the twin girls mixed up with that one friend (Banzai girl) as they have the exact same hairstyles. The blue hair girls (excluding Sayaka) confused me too and I mixed them up. There are two groups we see Iroha interact with: one in the beginning of the first season, and then the main group of girls. So we suddenly have the first group disappear and then reappear at the end of season 1. I actually forgot about them and then got confused as I had subconsciously mixed them with the new girls.
Long story short: this works as a gacha game. This does not work as an anime. It is a mess with way too many characters that are not distinguishable. I haven’t seen the final episode yet and will update if my thoughts change. I have seen 3/4 of the last season. Also… is the short haired girl even relevant? Where is Iroha’s friend from the train in episode one? Is this her???
(Edit: this was written when i had only watched 3/4 episodes, and I originally gave it a 6/10. Since watching the finale i have bumped it to a 7/10 as the plot points i was worried we’re not going to be concluded did get concluded in the post credit scene (AKA Madoka and Homura) but at the same time the last episode was only good at some moments and confusing and random at others. 7/10 is a bit too forgiving but eh, why not.)
