I don't think the audience that Lycoris Recoil attracted cames for its plots and resolution of the tension. Instead, we came for the subtle emotional entanglement between the two girls--how Chisato and Takina change each others' lifestyles and how they set the defining characteristics of Recolyco the cafe.
This is done quite well in the first 10 or 11 episodes, as we saw how the characters cover each other in the battle and how Takina embraces her new life in Recolyco. "Cute girls that look like a couple + battle" is THE selling point. For example, Takina made the agreement with Chisato that she'll go

to hers if she doesn't pick up the phone after three rings. And yes, this happened multiple times and every time I felt like Takina is the hero for Chisato.
However, the anime apparently wants to create more complicated conflicts in the finale, thus introducing the problem with Chisato's heart, how she deviated from the "designated path", and the controversy around DA (censorship). This serious discussion would turn on the audience's brains and let them ponder the conflicting notions from different sides. This move does not favour the anime in any way, since the settings are not portrayed in detail. In the end, the majority of the audience is disappointed that the conflicts are not truly resolved--the city is still under censorship and Chiosato still lives idealistically. In the end, Yoshi dies for nothing, as even his final notes are not passed to Chisato.
