My points as to why the shows are similar: 1. Point 1: the main characters 2. Point 2: the humor 3. Point 3: the one-shot episodes In more detail: Point 1: the main characters Both Tsuna and Gintoki are seen as useless main characters. However, both are really powerful. Tsuna seems more usless, however, as Gintoki is shown to be strong from the getko. Point 2: both shows have a lot of humor in them. Gintama's humor is DEFINITELY for a much older audience, however. Gintama's humor can be very profane! Point 3: the one-shot episodes In Gintama some of the one-shots introduce different characters (there are hundreds of characters in Gintama; however, some of them appear more than others). It reminds me of Katekyo Hitman Reborn where the first 20 or so episodes merely introduce the main characters and develop the relationships they have with each other. After the 20 episodes it gets into the first action arc. Similarly, Gintama has one-shots showing the characters and their relationships. The difference between Katekyo Hitman Reborn and Gintama is that the arcs are shorter in Gintama. Gintama is mostly one-shots unlike Katekyo Hitman Reborn.

1. both shows are about wandering samurai after a time when swords have been banned (but Gintama is more set in an alternate future where aliens have taken over and Rurouni Kenshin takes place in the Meiji period) 2. both the main title characters (Gintoki and Kenshin) are extremely strong with a darkish past 3. both use historical names/organizations (ex. Shinsengumi) 4. Kenshin and Gintoki are both very strong but handicap themselves (reverse-blade sword for Kenshin and a wooden sword for Gintoki) 5. Both Kenshin and Gintoki are against killing (Kenshin more than Gintoki) 6. Kenshin and Gintoki are very silly/goofy, but when they get serious their whole personality changes 7. Both shows are really good

1. both have some plot hidden in episodes of randomness (however, Getbackers has more of a plot line) 2. Gintoki and Ban are extremely strong 3. The allies and friends change (meaning an ally one day will be an enemy in the next episode - like Mr. Jackal and the Shinsengumi) 4. The main characters run an organization that does odd jobs for people 5. the characters are in debt and need to pay rent (Gintoki) the tab (Getbackers) 6. both shows are really enjoyable

Dragon Drive

This anime feels similar to Shaman King. They both are about fighting with a partner (but it's slightly different because in Dragon Drive its with a dragon but Shaman King is with spirit). Both main characters seem similar also. Yoh is pretty similar to Reiji, they have a similar carefree attitude. (Their personalities are pretty different though).

Mushishi and Tactics are both animes where some episodes can be watched in any order. Tactics (for most episodes) and Mushishi basically have a different mystery to be solved in each episode. If you like animes about mystery and supernatural happenings I would recommend Mushishi.

Well, in both there's a girl who travels to a different world. Also, there are some similarities in the plot if you watch them both all the way through. Also two of the main characters have a thing going on. Here's a tip about animes: wait until at least the 5th episode or so until you make a finaol disision on whether or not to finish an anime.
