I watched the anime many years ago, and finally got around to reading the manga. I think the manga has a strong start, but the anime adapted the best parts of the manga. It is slightly dragged on afterwards, and I do appreciate a slow burn but there was a lot of angst. At the end, it did redeem it to a degree and tied up some loose ends, but I do think it took too long to get to the point, so it was not as satisfying as it could've been.

If you enjoyed the anime, you should consider the manga as there's some ... amazing moments that add context and give you some closure since the anime doesn't finish everything up... however you do have to go through some unncessary angst. If you've read the manga, definitely watch the anime, as it adapts it well.
