Believe it or not I actually dropped this half way through episode one because I expected it to be just another generic shoujo/romance anime. Boy was I terribly wrong. And boy am I glad I gave it a second chance.
From the anime titles I have watched, it reminds me a combination of Fuushigi Yuugi and Fruits Basket. It reminds me of Fuushigi Yuugi because of the journey, while it reminds me of Fruits Basket because of the individuals pasts.
STORY. It starts out as a typical shoujo genre with the MC's (main characters) in a one-sided love triangle-esque web. (At least that is how it is
...
portrayed in the anime thus far.) This web consists of a noble boy, a princess, and her loyal bodyguard/general. Everything changes once the first episode ends. The princess's love betray her and she is forced to leave her kingdom along with her loyal bodyguard. Thus the journey of the princess and her loyal bodyguard embarks. They come across a priest and his companion. The priest informs her the story long ago of a king and his four guardian dragons. He then tells her that she must gather the dragons. The princess, her bodyguard, and the priests companion then set on a journey to find the four guardian dragons: the white, blue, green, and yellow dragons.
(Sorry if I made the story sound much more boring or lame than it actually is. My summary obviously does not do this story justice.)
ART. One word: BISHIES. (Just kidding, not kidding.) The art is beautifully breath taking. Exactly how a shoujo genre's art should be.
SOUND. The songs used suit the anime well. As well as the ost bgm (background music). Good bgm makes, you, as an audience more engrossed in the anime.
CHARACTER. The only thing I can say is that this author, is guuud. Every single character is lovable or likable. You will fall in love with every bishie in this anime, perhaps even the evil ones. The story does a great job of showcasing the characters past in a way that is not too exaggerated or forced. They all made me tear up or cry to some degree.
ENJOYMENT. I enjoyed this series a little too much. Much more than I anticipated. This made me laugh, cry, smile, and it warmed my heart. I applause it for being able to merge the genres romance, comedy, and adventure so well.
Overall, if I could, I rate this anime 9.6/10.
10/10 rounding up.
